If Oklahoma State is in with an 8-10 conference record, why not the Gophers? At least now they can make the case.

WTF....Lunardi still has Arkansas as first four out with an RPI of 72.

Do we want Iowa to win or lose? Northwestern is brutal lately... I know everyone says Iowa is a lock, but I don't know about that... Would it hurt our rpi & quality wins too much if they lose?

Lose! Because it would be harder to justify an at large bid to Iowa unless Minnesota joins them!

They said this toward the end of the game. Supposedly updated 1/2 hour prior. He had Providence as last in. Gophers as first out.

I think it's better if Iowa wins...They are in no matter what. We need to keep top 50 wins! I don't think it will be an issue. I bet Iowa wins by 20.

I've been told that only Lunardi's counts

Only ESPN things like Lunardi and 'BPI' count. Iowa's RPI may be 47. Their BPI is 20, hence they're a lock. It accounts for the fact that really, they're good, they just lose a lot.

I'm going with win and I think they're in even if they were to lose.

Is BPI just a made up ESPN stat? Does the committee use it?

Does the selection committee actually use BPI? Or is that just ESPN's made up way of ranking teams?

I don't see any remote chance Iowa loses to NW (which IIRC is still without Jershon Cobb) ... but if they do lose we should celebrate. True we'd lose a top 50 win but it would put Iowa solidly behind us in the pecking order. I don't think they get left out, which pretty much means we wouldn't either.

Marquette over Xavier is the one we really need tonight. Our buddy GW's team hasn't helped us at all down the stretch, losing to all these BE bubble teams, but they've got one more chance tonight.

It would have been preferable for St. John's to win that game, no doubt.

Northwestern isn't gonna go down easy. We may have a ball game.

From CBS Sports:

Minnesota: Beating Penn State in the regular season finale kept the Gophers alive. Beating the Nittany Lions again in the opening round of the Big Ten tournament moves them up the pecking order just a bit more. There's some bubble carnage going on around them, which means simply getting a win helps. I still don't think it makes them a sure-fire NCAA Tournament team, but beating Wisconsin on Friday would likely do the trick. A loss on Friday leaves them sweating profusely on Selection Sunday. The top-10 SOS is fantastic, and wins over Wisconsin, Ohio State and Iowa help. But they are just 3-8 against the top 50 and 6-10 against the top 100, with two sub-100 losses. The 4-9 record away from home also isn't great. Beat Wisconsin on Friday, and we won't be having much of a conversation anymore.

Even so.....that was before the game was over.....thus, our game had not been considered.

Marquette vs Xavier is one to watch tonight. Marquette up 4 early.

Can't argue with that last bit.

Cats up 5. I understand the 'we want Iowa to win' argument. But I can't.

I feel like the RPI boost is negligible. We crashed and burned last year and were one of the last teams in the tournament with a 30 RPI. Iowa will have crashed and burned and have an RPI around 60. Yet Lunardi says they're a lock... I don't care. I want to see Iowa lose.

I heard cheering for Iowa gets you kicked off of gopherhole

I second the motion.

Those dumb Muskrats of Xavier are on a run right now. :p
Common MU, fire back!
