All Things Sandy Cohen Thread

Cohen i don't think will be at Marquette next year regardless of who the new coach is.

Same. Not sure why people assume Cohen would stay just because of Smart. I mean, he hasn't even met the man for cripe's sakes!

When he tweets that he has just been released from his letter of intent(even if they haven't officially released him) is as crystal clear as it gets if you ask me that he isn't going there anymore.

That's funny because the Milwaukee Fox station just said it was a don deal on their news.

Yup, they even led with it, hope this shaka stuff happens every year, so fun to follow, imagine being a VCU at this time of the year, year after year

must suck to be VCU and hear this talk about Shaka going here and Shaka going there. got to get old.

Boom Shaka Laka

I was thinking about that. After a while I think I'd start to hate Shaka since he puts the school and fanbase through this every year to get a raise. It's similar to Favre's flirtation with retiring every year.

I can't imagine any recruit turning down Shaka if they are already committed to Marquette. He'll infuse so much energy locally. He'll give UW a run for their money and us as well with our top recruits.

He isn't committed to Marquette, i don't consider him at least.

I actually think this is photoshopped. The white font looks off on the TV, that and the time says 5:07.

I hope Shaka takes the job, if only in the hopes that it would hurt the badgers down the road.

This is so funny reading through the Marquette board, they are flight tracking and everything, its deja vu over there right now

Man that was seriously the best thread on Gopherhole of all time. I legitimately refreshed that page each minute for the better part of 12 hours.

I certainly hope the Shaka rumors aren't true. I don't want that kind of hurricane hitting anywhere near the Gophers' backyard.

Alright so VCU fans have to be the biggest trolls ever, reading through their board, they got people assigning someone to be "VCUinsider" and sent them to the Marquette board, and they are also assigning people to tweet made up stories about Shaka and his whereabouts like he is staying at a Milwaukee hotel and getting marquette fans to retweet those said tweets, they have completely made game of the situation, probably a yearly tradition for them.

LOL. I actually kinda respect that. If you have to deal with this BS every year you might as well make a game of it.

That is a terrible photoshop job...
No idea where Shaka ends up, but this screen shot ain't real.

That's hilarious!

 Without question.

According to CNN, Shaka is in Moscow meeting with Putin about the Crimea. Evidently he is very upset about the impact that the crisis is having on his ability to recruit at VCU.

Sounds like Shaka isn't going anywhere. Good news for our chances. I say he ends up here unless Wisconsin offers.

I don't think he ends up at Wisky. In fact I would bet Marquette would restrict him from going there.

UWOle seemed to think UW wouldn't go after him since they didn't even keep contact when he was blowing up last summer.

I remember reading a quote from Sandy that UW never contacted him last spring and summer when he burst onto the scene. I believe he also said that he would be interested if UW did show some interest.

When UW was recruiting last summer, they had (maybe) one scholarship open for the 2014 class and it was being held for Kevon Looney, who chose UCLA this past fall. Since then, George Marshall and Evan Anderson have left the program, which obviously gives the UW staff room to pursue another 2014 prospect. If it was up to me, I would like to see UW make a push for Cohen, as they could really use a bigger wing. I think it would also be nice to add another recruit in 2014 to balance out the scholarships, otherwise the 2015 group could be a really big class (maybe up to 6). Unfortunately, I don't think the UW staff cares what I think, so who knows what will transpire if Cohen eventually asks for and gets his release.

I don't know how releases from a LOI work or if they're similar to regular transfers, but I would not be surprised to see MU restrict Sandy from going to UW if they are able to do that. Transfers from MU are routinely restricted from going to UW and vice versa. Beyond that, I don't know if academics are still a concern with Cohen, but if they are, I would expect UW to pass. If UW does decide to pursue him, I would like to believe that they have a very good chance to land him. Sounds like Sandy would prefer to stay close home, which would certainly help the Badgers, but I guess we'll have to wait and see what comes of the MU coaching search and then wait for a decision from Cohen.

You already have Dekker no need to be greedy.

I think Cohen is better suited to run up and down the court then to hold the ball for 30 seconds and shoot a 3.
