It doesn't matter. He cannot sign with us for weeks anyway. As long as Marquette doesn't drag out its coaching search. If anything it is good for us. He already knows our staff, and it keeps other teams from getting to him.

Sounds like Howland will be announced as the coach in the next day or so.

He would be a great fit. Have seen him play in HS and he is a better than average defender to boot. Hope we get him. I know he had a lot of love for the Gophers at one time, but Buzz made him a priority and Marquette was his "dream school". Based on his tweet, I'm thinking its not where he wants to be anymore.

Howland is a great recruiter with a lot of skins on the wall, so he may be the guy who can talk Cohen into staying, if Marquette is indeed his dream school.

Gotta give the new coach a chance to re recruit the guys. It would be bad form to not let them go if they decided they wanted something else, but a few days to give the new administration a shot seems fair and may even prevent an impulsive decision by the recruits.

The better question is probably, "Will they contact him?" not "are they allowed." Probably not allowed, but you have to believe the networks are at work getting in his ear about new opportunities.
 

noticed he had a virginia tech offer before committing to Marquette, you'd think they would be in play now that buzz is there. RIGHT NOW, I'd say Marquette, Minnesota, and Virginia Tech are the front runners CURRENTLY

Nope. Wisconsin, Marquette and Minnesota are IMO. Location is key in his decision
 


yeah, Until wisconsin shows interest, not putting them on that list yet, I do think they become instant front runners if they offer

According to Ryan James, Sandy will not be attending any school that isn't in Wisconsin or a neighboring state.

So I guess that means Marquette or us from his list before he committed to marquette, but I'd have to assume other schools near by (probably B1G schools) will get in the mix if he is released
 

Apparently Marquette and Wake are making runs at Shaka. I doubt either gets him but if Marquette does it could be enough to secure Cohen.

And why would Shaka go to Marquette after their most recent coach, who was successful there, ran away kicking and screaming and was so desperate to get out that he voluntarily took a huge pay cut? I think these schools are just wasting their time. Unless you're on the Duke, UNC, UCLA, Indiana, Syracuse, etc., level, I wouldn't even bother. In fact, if you believe the rumors, he even turned down UCLA last year. And now he's going to go to Wake Forest or Marquette? Please.

Was just passing along the news. Jerry Meyer said those two are going after Shaka, never said he was leaving for either one. Apparently Howland is demanding too much money for the boosters liking (they don't even like him all that much) so they are going to go after Shaka. Marquette spends more money on basketball than every other program in the country except Duke, so he wouldn't have to worry about salary, practice facility, etc. That is about the only thing I could see him really liking about Marquette. That and Buzz will be leaving a lot of players that fit his system well.

Hey, I don't disagree, but if a far less accomplished, and far more troubled coach like Bruce Pearl can keep fooling employers, I'm sure Howland can too.

Well I guess we are nearing our 1 year anniversary of the infamous Shaka thread... It's only natural that we'd resurrect the Shaka watch now.
 

Not sure why he'd go there, they are in a soon to be mid major conference, the old coach took a pay cut to leave, he had his chance at UCLA last year. Marquette must be throwing some serious money at him, and he is from wisconsin, but this is a lateral move at best
