All Things RB Jeffrey Jones Thread

Was eating a hotdog at the Vu last night with Coach Grant and he said that Mr. Jones will not be playing for EP this year. Then Tyus jumped on my back and stole the last bite of my dog. He was wearing a duke jersey (and only a duke jersey). It made me uncomfortable so I left.

That's why I travel with at least 4 of my road dogs with me at all times.

per Shooter:

If Gophers-bound running back Jeff Jones has transferred from Minneapolis Washburn to reigning state large-school champion Eden Prairie, as reported elsewhere, that's news to Eden Prairie football coach Mike Grant.

Reached at practice Tuesday morning, Grant said he looked around the field and didn't see Jones, who is considered the state's top recruiting prospect.

Who knows what the truth is, but Grant pretty much has to play dumb until it is official. This actually reminds me of the Royce White to Hopkins scenario from a couple of years ago. As far as how this affects our chances of retaining Jones, I don't think we know enough. If he's solid, he's solid. But, if he is still hoping to get a better offer I think this potential move will clinch it for another school. I know we have secured players from EP and Cretin, but for the most part they have been 'second tier' type guys. The high profile guys from these two schools seem to usually be encouraged to go elsewhere.

If I remember correctly a reporter asked coach Novak about the rumors Royce was transferring and Novak's reaction was pretty much "oh crap".

Looks like the MSHSL folks are trolling gopherhole and twitter looking for transfers to deny.

I told you he told me this at the Vu over hotdogs...sheesh, I guess I need to tweet it or it isn't real.

I stopped by the Washburn practice today and Jones was there, despite rumors of him transferring to Eden Prairie. However, Raymonte Maynard is expected to land at Chanhassen. The funny thing is that I talked to Maynard last night for a story at http://www.gopherhole.com & he didn't mention the transfer. Washburn head coach Giovan Jenkins told me that he didn't even find about the move until Tuesday. Jenkins is making Jones unavailable to the media until the season start to take pressure off his star player. Jones rushed 111 times for 1,002 yards & 9 TDs last year.

Thanks for the update guys. Funny that you both post the updates from different sites within minutes of each other.

Still a long ways to go before he signs that LOI, but we still have him under wraps as of now it looks like. Really hoping he sticks around.

I think I will watch when Washburn plays at South, South is within walking distance. It seems like there's a perception that players need to transfer to the suburbs to get scholarship offers. The quality of play in the city may improve if the best players see that they don't have to transfer to get offers.

I suppose it's a sign of some kind of progress when Minnesota has a FB prospect who is hot enough that his coach is limiting media access. But, if the state does develop more high-profile prospects, it will up the ante on the Gophers to try and keep those kids at home, and not have them leave like others we could name.

Sounds like fun. South has a rich old history in football. They were not very competitive last year, but hopefully they will be better this year.

every night i go to bed and i say a little side prayer that he sticks to his commitment...

Of course, it helps to take Doogie's "scoops" with a barrel of Morton's salt.

@Gobie247: Final "estimated" stats on 4-star Jeff Jones (@WaveyJJ_10) monster night. 20 carries for 212 & 4TDs. 2 rec for 55 & TD. & kickoff 90 for TD

He had 6 TDs tonight and led the Millers to victory in a HUGE offensive attack!

Well Mizzou lost to NW State last night. Hopefully that helps cool him on the Tigers a bit.

We need this kid so bad...almost guarantees he moves on. We need to find the corner and turn it!

Was a gorgeous night for high school football. Washburn and Jones got off to a rocky start with an early fumble by Jones deep in their own end of the field. However, the last three quarters the Millers road on Jones' back for tons of yards and some very exciting long runs. If you get a chance, come watch him play and wear your Gopher gear. It's a nice field and atmosphere. They just need to figure out how to sell tickets as people waited until we'll in the second quarter to file through the slow ticket line.
Anyone hear how Raymonte did at Chanhassen. He is a very impressive back who transferred from Washburn this year.
