Seems like Syracuse is head and shoulders the leader and we are in the 3rd tier at best. Hopefully we at least get an official visit so Pitino and Co. can work their magic for a weekend.

Yikes. That is not good news. Hopefully he visits! Whitehead looks incredible.

So was Whitehead full of it with all his praise of Minnesota or did someone get in his ear? Play closer to home or play for a marquee program and not Minnesota.

Read his tweet, he hasn't cut his list. You are easily one of the most negative people on this board, almost to the point that I'm doubting whether you are a Gopher fan.

This feels like a setback, as I thought we were definitely going to get an official visit. Not to make accusations, but this is reminiscent of the frustrations Dutcher and Clem had when going up against Georgia Tech for guys like Tommy Hammonds and Stephon Marbury. To paraphrase something I heard Marbury say about how Tech was able to recruit him, programs like that have ways of reeling you in. I too wonder who's saying what in Whitehead's ear.

My response to him was mostly related to him assuming Whitehead's praise of Minnesota was BS.

At the moment I would say we are in his third tier, but he hasn't cut his list. Syracuse seems to be the favorite at the moment, the blue chip school located closest to his home. It also seems like Zona and UCLA have moved ahead of us because he sounds like he wants to use an official visit on them. The next tier is Minnesota, St Johns and Miami who have the best shot at filling out his 5 official visits. The tier after that is everyone else that may try to come in and impress him at the last second, particularly the bigger programs.

I still wouldn't get too negative about our chances though, especially if we get the official visit and even more so if it is with Newton. If we don't get an official then you can obviously right him off. Until then though I hold out hope Pitino and his assistants can work their magic on an official visit.

Sounds like we're still in the mix. Has he taken any officials yet? I don't really like the thought of him committing before we can get him on campus. If we are able to get him here on an official, I definitely think we'll fulfill the "great campus" and "great atmosphere" requirements.

For anybody else that was confused by the comment on Miami.....

Would be rather confusing to any hypothetical British readers without that addition. (I imagine his arm would be awfully tired).
 


Obviously Whitehead really likes Pitino and Young if he's lumping us into the same group as UCLA, Syracuse, and Arizona. I'm absolutely not holding my breath on picking him up, but any press is good press.

Same here, If he doesn't go to Cuse I'm going to be surprised.
 




I'm wondering if the reason the whole package fell apart was Newton decided on Miami and that wasn't so high on Whitehead's list. I still think we have a decent shot and if the kid allows, I'd keep recruiting him to the day he signs...
