So are you saying that my Jalen Collins story is incorrect? An example was asked for and I gave it, it was with Rivals. Does 247 even rate players? I'm not sure, they lose me when they keep changing their predictions back to unknown right before a commitment and still claim they are 100% right about predictions. Its a joke website for predictions and as far as I'm concerned rating players. Again good to get free info about players but hardly a "recruiting" website.

Guys get offers and it prompts the services to evaluate them. That's not the same thing as a 3* guy with a Gopher offer going to a 4* with an Alabama offer.

B) If Sawvel's point is that the recruiting service ranked him too low because he went to the NFL, well I guess fire Urban Meyer and Nick Saban because neither one of them offered him.

C) Other good examples in the thread above of highly rated guys with no big offers.

But its rare that we get out-of-state commits over the likes of Alabama, USC, Notre Dame, Florida, Florida State, Miami, and on and on, so this is a thread we definitely want to keep on topic!

Ok recruiting experts, explain Snelson rated an 80 three star by 247. That would make him one of our lower quartile rated commits in recent years, I believe.

How do they dream up these assessments, DPO, specifically in regards to Snelson? A theory floating around is that he's only attended certain camps attended by certain scouts.

What's up with 247 vs Rivals, ESPN, Scout in regards to Snelson?

Combine this with the natural evaluation differences between scouts, sprinkle in a little butthurt demonstrated by people like Bud Elliot, and we have an absurd ranking of an 80 three star for Snelson.

I'm not Jshowers but even I can see Snelson has more college talent potential than a low 3 star. It damages the credibility of 247, in my opinion.

Who knows who's right. Someone bookmark this thread and we can revisit in 4 years. But from the thread you reference we know that the 247 ranking is not a matter of not having seen the kid, but rather their conscious decision. I would note, though, that Goblirsch implies that 247 thinks the ESPN ranking is inflated as a result of games/camps.

He was a 4-star before Ohio St. offered, and was a 3-star before he committed to the Gophers.

Getting back on topic, based on one tweet I saw, the 247 rater wasn't happy with Snelson's performance in a 7 on 7 tournament and felt that the other rating services should have reacted similarly. I get a strong vibe that he's trying to correct the composite.
 



That RankbyOffer site is pretty cool. There are of course drawbacks in ranking this way because some players receive less exposure than others and thus less offers, but still interesting none the less. Snelson would be by far our best recruit according to the site (112). But because Coughlin committed so early, he lacks many of the offers he could have gotten had he dragged his recruitment out more. These rankings are probably best for comparing players still available, not those that have already committed.

I was asking a rhetorical question.

It's clear there is some political maneuvering with some of this stuff. Whether some of you guys want to admit it or not.

Ok, Justthefacts, after viewing his tape, looking at his offers, etc, do you feel like Snelson is an 80? Do you think the 247 rating service is worth a damn in this case? (hint, I already know the answer, I'm just checking to see what you think).

This makes 247 look bad. That is all.
 

So we are to believe 247 dropped him almost 1000 spots in their rankings because of one middle of the road camp? Here's a report from 247 themselves calling Snelson a "top performer" at an Under-Armour camp:

10) Dredrick Snelson — The Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) American Heritage four-star wide receiver was difficult to slow down in one-on-ones. Snelson showed a good burst off the line and the 6-1, 190-pounder showed advanced body control on the deep passes.

Funny enough, he's our lowest rated recruit on 247. Lower than Olson, Barber, and Martin, who have a combined 1 non-UMN FBS offer between them.
 





When Kill and staff make the offer. That is the ONLY rating I look at.

I'll go with "solid". If he says reporters are twisting his words, then, I am fine with his "solid".
 

It sounds like he is friends with the Daniels bros. That's a good thing for us. I'll take him at his word that he is solid.
