All Things Class of 2015 Recruiting - Class Finally Complete? Nope Chris Obekpa visit

If Wilson is better than Jarvis and/or Sacar (as some state above), the recruiting websites must be completely missing the boat. I've never seen him play, so I can't really make an evaluation - however, it's seems crazy that he's that far under the radar. It can't all be academic related.

His highlights are impressive, that's for sure. Wilson highlights

If there are grade questions as of now, that's obviously not going to change before the November signing period (next significant batch of grades presumably out in December/Jan) so if he wants to go high major and he makes it, it seems like he'll be a spring recruit. By then we'll have a better picture of our needs in the 2015 class.

http://go4report.com/early-summer-recruiting-notebook/ Good article on all the recruits we are after right now

Good article, but I don't know about this statement: "Sacar Anim, Amir Coffey, Jarvis Johnson, and Alex Illikainen are all pretty close. Landing one of them would go a long ways for the other three." Lots of players are close, but they almost always choose the best situation for themselves. Coffey seems likely to go to the program that his dad and he think will get him to the NBA. Illikainen and Johnson never played together until this summer. I don't know about Anim and Johnson.

Paul VI (Va.)/Team Takeover guard Kevin Dorsey is down to three schools -- Maryland, Nebraska and Minnesota -- and could decide in the next week, he told InsideMDSports.com's Josh Stirn tonight.

Dorsey, a 6-foot rising senior ranked No. 95 overall and 17th-best among point guards in the 247Sports Composite rankings, also has offers from VCU, Creighton, Virginia Tech and others. He recently visit all three schools on his final list, telling IMS after his Maryland visit: "I really loved it there. Hopefully I'll make the decision soon."

I think we have a legit shot with Dorsey, but I would say Maryland is probably considered to be the favorite at this point. I would love to see him kick off the 2015 recruiting class for the Gophers, but not getting my hopes up.

I was basing my opinion about Wilson in comparison to the other recruits based solely on what I've seen of them, I've seen enough to make a comparison..

It's just a personal opinion, nothing from recruiting sites. Some posters have stated he was considered #1 or #2 player in the state a couple years ago.

He played varsity his freshmen year at Tartan then transferred to Hill his sophomore year to focus on academics... Tartan is a much better school basketball-wise and hill focuses on education...
He was not able to play Varsity his sophomore year due to transfer rules...
I think not playing varsity his sophomore year combined with questionable grades and playing for a mediocre basketball program may have put him back under the radar a bit...

He's an impressive player. Love to see him and any of our other in state recruits play for the Gophs I'm pretty high on them all.

Just messing with me man..... Productivity gone!

Don't get me wrong...I like Anim but I don't like starting our recruiting class with a "filler". Get the best you can first and then "fill". I go all out for Alex, JJ, Dorsey and Clarke and supplement if we miss on secondary recruits.

Yeah according to Ryan James it's between us and Maryland with many believing that Maryland will be the choice. Hope they're wrong as Dorsey would be a fantastic pickup.

Also according to RJ, Creighton is no longer connected to Alex Illikainen as they have picked up someone else and are full in the front court. This is huge news as many believed Creighton was our biggest competition for AI.

Wow that is great news! Didn't see that coming at all. I would say Nebraska is likely our biggest competition now that has already offered.

The Talk Gopher Buckets podcasts featuring Ryan James are always a good listen at http://talkgopherbuckets.tumblr.com/. Some recent recruiting updates that I found noteworthy:

- Alex Illikainen will be teaming up in the frontcourt at Brewster Academy with Jarred Rueter, a 3* PF who the Gophers are also looking at
- Illikainen will likely cut his list of schools after the Peach Jam and James guessed that he'd make his decision in the early Fall...likely down to Minnesota, Nebraska, and Oregon
- Going to be tough to get Jimmy Whitt...James mentioned Arkansas and Missouri as likely leaders and Kansas would probably be frontrunner if they offer
- James wouldn't be surprised if the Gophers offer Goanar Mar soon (DeLaSalle, 2017), very versatile player

STrib: Minnesota target Nate Grimes has quickly ascended after getting involved with basketball in high school

Bigby, meanwhile, sees in the Gophers a near-ideal program for developing a player that is perhaps still underrated. He's listened to coach Richard Pitino talk of the time he sets aside for individual instruction. He's seen the statistical improvements from a handful of the players Pitino inherited after just one year.

"Minnesota is at the top for sure, for sure," Bigby said. "We believe in what coach Pitino is doing and what the staff does as far as the development of kids."

Now, Grimes -- whom Bigby describes as intensely loyal and a "throwback," unfazed by his new popularity -- is close to narrowing his list. Then the pair will consider visits. The coach wouldn't name any favorites except one.

"Minnesota ain't going nowhere," he said. "We really like Minnesota ... they'll be there, they'll be right up there at the very, very top."

Considering he's probably the most plugged in source for Gophers recruiting info, sure I'd sign up for his fan club.

Hard to argue with that :)

PigMan must be the founder, so see if he will let you in.

Ryan James is pretty much the best possible follow for any Gopher bball fan.

I wouldn't necessarily say that, I just pass along info from GI and practically all of that info on the basketball side comes from James. I've also learned that of I don't say where the info is coming from some people will say that I'm making it up. Heck, sometimes they still do. However, I do think that James is easily the best recruiting source in the state for basketball.

Tacko Fall, the 7-5 kid that i made a thread on a couple months ago is actually a 4 star on ESPN. Was very surprised to see that.

I watched him play in one game at the Minneapolis EYBL event and I was very unimpressed. Majority of the game he was on the bench, when he was in the game he had a few out of control fouls, maybe 2 points, and a less than 5 rebounds. The guy has 1 star talent and 5 star height...

I was thinking he would be a low 3 star/high 2 star and play for a mid major Florida team like FIU, FAU, FGCU etc. but he actually has offers from K-State and Tennessee.

per Zags Blog:

DuPree McBrayer is a 6-4 2015 point guard from The Patrick School.

Coaches from Seton Hall, Minnesota, Pittsburgh, St. John’s, Rhode Island and Manhattan are here recruiting him, and McBrayer recently visited Seton Hall and Minnesota.

“Everybody’s working hard, so it’s going to be hard [to decide],” he said.

But first he will spend a prep year.

“I want to find a prep school soon, I still don’t know yet,” he said.

McBrayer is coached here by former Oregon State assistant Nate Pomeday.

“He’s going to make an impact on a team whether it’s a starter somewhere or a role guy in his first year or two and then a starter when he’s older, but I like him,” Pomeday said. “He can play.”
