All Things Class of 2015 Recruiting - Class Finally Complete? Nope Chris Obekpa visit

For a public school, a camp like this would most likely be optional and each player attending pays for their trip. That's how every camp I went to in HS worked. The school most likely isn't going to shell out thousands of dollars for their teams to go to these things.
Its still relevant that his team is choosing to go, not Jimmy Whitt himself. I get DPs point and the details are arbitrary after that point. Whether it was self funded, fund raised or paid by boosters Jimmy likely didn't say he wanted to go because he's interested in the Gophers. The Gophs may have invited his team because they wanted a look at Jimmy?

Still awesome to have him on our court playing basketball with our coaches.

I realize that. Just correcting some misinformation for another poster.

Wait, has this been posted?

I was unaware of this - good news. Would really love to get Dorsey.

Spot on. THE SCOUT! aka The Brain Drain does this all the time. Loves to argue with words that he puts in other people's mouths.

It's best to just ignore it. Usually never says anything worth while. Almost embarrassing.

Latest on Chris Clarke at http://go4report.com/latest-on-chris-clarke/

Of the nine schools to have offered, Clarke reports that Minnesota, Virginia Tech, and Creighton are recruiting him the hardest.

EYBL Session Four was held in the Twin Cities, so Clarke was able to take an unofficial visit to Minnesota. It was a dead period, however, so he wasn’t able to meet the coaches or see the athletic facilities.

“The visit was good. From what I saw on the tour, it looked like a great campus — a big open-wide campus with a lot of students,” he told The Gopher Report. “I saw most of the academic part of the campus and didn’t get to see the coaches, but it was good. A couple students that are there right now showed me around.”

He has developed a solid relationship with Gophers assistant Kimani Young. Dan McHale and Richard Pitino are also helping recruit the 6’5 forward. His relationship with the coaching staff is “not as strong as with Coach Pitino, but I got a good one with Kimani. He came to our school a couple times.”

Interesting that 3 of our 4 top guard recruits will all be on campus at the same time.

Might be a smart move by the staff, put a little pressure on these guys to choose soon.
"Hey if you don't wanna be here, we got 3 or 4 other guys who do"...
Idk for sure, I'm just speculating.
Could also be a bone head move, in which none of them feel really wanted by the gophers.
Right now I'm hoping it's the former rather than the latter.

Go Gophers!!

per Marcus:

– Columbia Hickman (Mo.) senior point guard Jimmy Whitt and Eau Claire Regis (Wis.) senior forward Billy Wampler both took a tour of Minnesota’s facilities with the Gophers’ coaches on Saturday. Whitt attended the team camp with his high school. Wampler, usually a member of Minnesota D1, was playing for Net Gain’s AAU team there. The 6-6 wing said on Twitter he had a “good visit”.

– Whitt showed why he’s a four-star prospect on Saturday with his shooting range, crafty ball handling and elite athleticism. But DeLaSalle’s explosive backcourt of Johnson and Sacar Anim also played well defensively against Whitt’s team. Johnson made an unofficial visit to campus recently.

– Paul VI (Va.) High School point guard Kevin Dorsey will be making his visit to Minnesota on Sunday. Dorsey’s last trip to the Twin Cities was in May with his Team Takeover AAU squad in the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League at High Performance Academy in Eagan. At that time, the four-star prospect said the Gophers were at the top of his list.

Dorsey has given no indication that he’s ready to make a commitment. But if Minnesota were to land him first that likely won’t stop Pitino from still going strong after Whitt and Johnson, who both have the ability to be combo guards at the college level. The Gophers could pitch the possibility of either of them playing successfully alongside another point guard in their system. Think of the situation last season with the backcourt of DeAndre Mathieu and Andre Hollins, now both seniors. I’ve heard they’re both highly motivated in workouts this summer to prove they’re one of the elite backcourts in the Big Ten this season.

Why would Marcus even include this part? It means next to nothing.

That's the first I've seen of Clarke, definitely want!

Clark has been one of my favorite targets that I like more every time I see him. Maybe it's the hair, but he reminds me of Kenneth Faried with his tenacity and explosiveness...just seems to outhustle and outwork people.

I haven't decided if its a good or bad thing, but some of the recruits (Clark, Dorsey, Morrow, etc.) the Gophers have been on for awhile have really jumped up in the rankings. It's great to see that Pitino and his staff seem to have a good eye for talent and offer these guys early, but at the same time they may get more big-time offers as their stock improves. Hopefully we land some of these guys!

I have the same conflict when I hear someone's stock is improving. I almost want the Josh Martin treatment where they go from 4* to 2* once we offer.... Under the radar until the bomb is ready to be dropped.

Oh the woes of courting top tier talent, I'm longing for the days of obscure spring recruits falling out of thin air at the end of the recruiting season. Those were much easier days.

http://go4report.com/ahmad-wagner-talks-iowa-minnesota-and-toledo/

Wagner reports that the three schools recruiting him the hardest are Iowa, Minnesota, and Toledo. Iowa and Minnesota both offered on May 2.

Head coach Fran McCaffrey and “several assistants are recruiting him to the Hawkeyes.
“They’re a great school, great program. They told me that I could come in and do great things for them.”

Minnesota coaches contacted him before EYBL Session 4, held in the Twin Cities. Ahmad would have liked to seen campus, but couldn’t because of NCAA rules.
“They recently contacted me before I came up here. They told me that they liked my game a whole lot, and that I could help them too,” he told The Gopher Report. “I’m talking to all their coaches pretty much. I talk to their head coach and one of the assistant coaches. They contact me pretty much three or four times a week. They ask me about my school and how I’m playing and everything.”

Toledo went 27-7 last year, winning the MAC West division. He likes the pitch that the Rockets are selling him.
“They’re telling me that I can be a great player up there. They’re saying that I can come in and get immediate playing time, so that sounds good.”

Will playing time play a factor in his decision?
“Maybe a little bit. I want to play a lot, but if a school feels that I should sit out my first year, that’s fine too. I do want to come in and play early.”

That's the first I've seen of Clarke, definitely want!

That's the 2nd vid I've seen. This one impressed me more than the first, both very nice tho.... Definitely want this guy too. Didn't catch him at eybl.

Could see him being an explosive contributor.

If I were to be nit-picky I'd say I would like to see him finish with his left hand a little more. He had plenty of drive and finishes on the left side, but always finished with the right hand... That's that new generation stuff.

Anyways i know the staff would make him work on that, not sure how comfortable he would become with the left though, also if he tries to dunk on 50%+ of his drives it's nothing to worry about.

He looks like he'd be a great get, get em coaches.

Hmm, aren't Jarvis and Alex supposed to drop *after* they commit to the Gophers? LOL.

Both those guys have been top 100 players and 4* for a long time (more than a year, I believe), most recently in the 80's. At one time Jarvis was in the 50's or 60's. Everything I've seen this summer supports that (Jarvis had a subpar start to the summer, but has looked himself again lately). I think Rivals isn't paying attention.
