Go Gophers!!

Most think he'd commit to Wisconsin immediately if he received an offer. He doesn't have an offer from Minnesota yet.

This is a good visit for us.

It means we have him on campus talking with our coaches and interacting with out players right?

Exactly. We never got any of the big time out of state kids (Newton, Whitehead, Perkings etc.) to visit last year so I am pretty excited Whitt will be on campus, no matter the circumstances.

So it looks like McBrayer will be in Minnesota again in August.

Unofficial visits during a team camp mean next to nothing people.

I disagree. It's probably not as good as a regular unofficial, but Whitt will be on campus and the coaches will be able to talk with him and watch him as much as they want. Getting Whitt's team to come up for the team camp is a job well done. Any excuse to get a kid on campus is worthwhile.

The Badger staff has typically done a very good job of getting kids on campus for their camps and building a relationship with them while they are there. For instance, UW made a big push for Jared Berggren when his Princeton team was in Madison for team camp the summer leading into his junior year. They did the same with Vitto Brown a couple summers ago as he was heading into his senior year. They liked what they saw from Riley Dearring last summer while Minnetonka was playing in the team camp.

I wish UW had been able to get Whitt's team to Madison this past week for their team camp. Maybe I need to show up this weekend in UW gear.

So McBrayer is interested enough in the program to come to Minneapolis from New Jersey, and Whitt will come from Missouri, both on their own dime, tour the U campus and the city, and that's supposed to mean next to nothing? Okay, got it.

What you people do not understand is that coming with a team camp means his whole team is going to be here with a ton of other teams. Whitt is not paying for the trip out of his own pocket and he will be here anyways as a member of his high school team. Thousands of high school teams travel to team camps every year. It is not about recruiting .Do you people actually believe that Jimmy Whitt told his coach and AD that the whole team should attend the gopher team camp this year so he could get a look at the school.! The U would love to get an official visit from Whitt . Team camps provide the college coaches a chance to look at players attending and talk with them and offer them... if there are any prospects attending. In addition to Tonka attending Wisc Team Camp Dearing had some very strong AAU play at a tourney that Ryan was attending. Whitt is high on the gopher dream list, his team happens to be on campus for the Gopher team camp this summer and since he is going to be here why not take a visit? He is going to be here anyways.

+1

Everyone knows it's a team camp. We are excited he'll be on campus in front of our coaches, especially since he is from Missouri and has never been to the U. This is a good thing.

Please find me one post where someone implied anything different than what you wrote here.

Also please explain to me how what you wrote above (having high level prospects at your camp) means next to nothing. To quote you

That is not next to nothing, that's a great chance to talk to players who are attending, guess what, Whitt is attending. So we got another great chance to talk to him, which is better than not having a chance to talk to him.

You and many others on this board are great at arguing with absolutely no one. You just make sh1t up and say we are idiots for saying stuff no one ever said.

Dupray Mcbrayer

Will be bringing in Gopher target Dupree Mcbrayer for the twin cities classic basketball game held 8/10
at Woodbury High School.

It wasn't implied, but flat-out stated by WindyCityGopher that McBrayer and Whitt would both be visiting campus on their own dime, which is patently false, as illustrated in the post you quoted.

Again, this is wrong. Please see above.

I do see WindyCity Gophers post now, and he did say that. I apologize, he is wrong in stating that. I did not quote WindyCityGopher and now obviously didn't read his post completely, I jumped to BrainTrust's response.

Doesn't change the fact that the brain trust claiming this is next to nothing and his rational for that statement, not including the "on the own dime comment", was rather dumb.

Again, this is wrong. Please see above.

I stand by my comment

I agree that stating "next to nothing" is an inaccurate characterization, but when framing it in the context of an official visit versus a team camp, it accurately illustrates that an unofficial visit (self-paid by the player/family) is far more meaningful than one paid for by the school/team.

You of all people should appreciate accuracy of language. He stated that the camp meant next to nothing, he didn't frame it against anything. I'm not in a place to editorialize.

This is where the comment strain is coming from, he said something that was false. He is now implying others are claiming that this camp meant Whitt is very interested in the U or something along those lines, which no-one, save WindyCityGopher, has come close to saying.

Vs an official visit, yeah no kidding the camp is much less important. But vs the kid not coming to our camp, your damn right "this is a good visit for the gophers", to quote Madtown.

So who pays for him and his team to attend to the camp? He or his parents have zero financial skin in the game with that? Absolutely impossible to believe, as parents are on the hook for thousands of dollars to play AAU and other travel sports. It may not be a direct expense specifically to travel to Minneapolis to visit the U, but to call it "patently false" that they funded the trip is pure BS.

He's coming with his HS team, correct? Are you saying that the parents self-fund their kids' HS team? That would be pretty unorthodox.

For a public school, a camp like this would most likely be optional and each player attending pays for their trip. That's how every camp I went to in HS worked. The school most likely isn't going to shell out thousands of dollars for their teams to go to these things.
