All Things Class of 2015 Recruiting - Class Finally Complete? Nope Chris Obekpa visit

What annoys me is Fuller's tone. He puts negative spin on a lot of his material, and then the media states that it's their job to be unbiased. So, why does an unbiased reporter have preferences and wishes in regards to who we offer and sign? I read these tweets about what he "wants" as a small dig on The staff. Now he is in a position to play "i-told-you-so" when Anim eventually signs with either Minnesota or any high major team that will inevitably offer once the higher rated recruits come off the board.

I honestly think Marcus, and others in the media, are simply confused by the non-offer of Sacar. Later in the summer, Anim will have several high-major offers, and it's just a little confusing as to why Pitino and staff have not been ahead of the game in offering him. I'm not questioning the coaching staff at all, because they do an excellent job! It's just that Sacar's recruitment has played out quite oddly considering how good he's been this past year.

Why is it Minnesota's job to stick their necks out for marginal prospects? If he weren't a marginal prospect, he would have high-major offers already. It doesn't mean he can't become a good or even great player, but the fact that he's a basketball player entering his senior year of HS and his best offer is Dayton confirms the fact that he is a marginal prospect. What I'm confused about is why the onus is on Minnesota to offer him.

dpodoll

that is an excellent post, you have really come around in the last week or so on your quality of posts and I for one appreciate it. thanks and you have been taken back off my ignore list.

Well said.

"because he's a local kid!!!"

Do we feel better about Joe Coleman and Wally Ellenson because they are "local" (Wally a Wisco boarder kid)... I for one don't..... I'd rather take that 3 star from Memphis we are SURE about than the 4stars from Minnesota that had the feel good story.

Don't get me wrong, if its the right kid with the right skillset (all fingers are pointing to Illk being like that right now) then hey get me him in a heartbeat, and put some extra emphasis on the fact that he's local.

We are a marginal program right now, we CANNOT miss on recruiting to quote Jerry Kill.

Offer when we are sure of it, and hopefully Sacar doesn't feel slighted. I'm sure Pitino is playing his cards right with Sacar.

It's not, I totally agree there. That being said, anyone who's watched Sacar consistently this past EYBL season knows he is going to be an impact player no matter where he ends up in college. The high major offers are going to come, and I'd hate for Minnesota to lose out on a player like him.

Agreed - good post.

I agree with dpodoll also. IMO Anim is similar to Morris and McNeil. When all is said and done, I'm guessing we will sign 5 this class, and I could see us signing Anim on the back end of the class.

That is understandable, but that is the chance a coach makes when they adopt the philosophy that they can not make mistakes, i.e. it is better to miss on a good player than take the chance of taking someone you are no convinced about. If you think there are a lot of good players out there and it is your staff's job to find five who can play, and your staff is genuinely willing to work their ass off to do it, then that philosophy should work.
I have come to respect this philosophy a lot in watching CKill's staff execute it. Nerve racking for recruiting fans, but guys that know the business seem to be able to make it work.

Not saying I disagree especially the part about what Minnesotas job it.
But Dayton is a good program, made the sweet 16.
One could argue that they were more successful than the Gophers last season.

Sacars a good player, I think he will end up in Maroon and Gold given the chance and I would like it.

Team Takeover's Kevin Dorsey (@kevvv____) on the Gophers: "They're recruiting me very hard. He (Pitino) likes me and I like
him."

This was tweeted about 8 hours ago.

I actually think we'll get Dorsey. This is the first time I've been very optimistic about a Top 100 player committing under Pitino.

I sure hope so. I think he could rack up some serious offers though if his recruitment drags on. He just got offered by Maryland, too, which is the home school for him. I'm optimistic that we have a good chance, but we're going to have to really work for it.

Does anybody have access to this article who would be willing to provide a synopsis? I'm intrigued by this kid and want to hear what he has to say about the Gophers.

Supposedly he is going to visit this summer. Saw that on twitter, not sure what's in the article.

per Amelia's Q&A:

@bportnoe: @AmeliaRayno Does [Allonzo] Trier going to Findlay help, hurt or neither #Gophers?

Well, I suppose there's a chance it goes either way.

Findlay Prep is going to put a high-profile recruit like Trier in an even greater spotlight. If he excels under those bright lights, the nation's elite schools will likely pursue him all the more. Considering the four-star 2015 shooting guard is currently ranked No. 38 in the nation and being wooed by programs like Kansas, Louisville, North Carolina and UCLA, that's a scary prospect for a team like Minnesota. Right now, Trier is saying all the right things and giving every indication that he's at least listening to what Minnesota coach Richard Pitino has to say. But realistically, the Gophers are already in a difficult position. If he improves, that spot gets tougher. If he struggles some against the country's best high school competition, well, maybe it becomes just a little bit easier.

Make no mistake, Trier would be an incredibly big get for the Gophers. They probably need several dominoes to fall.

Minnesota Visit !!
- Dupree McBrayer (@InPree_WeTrust)

Sounds like Dupree is in town on an unofficial visit today through Wednesday. From what I have read, it seems as though Seton Hall may be the favorite, but the Gophers are right in the mix.

Also, Ryan James tweeted that Gopher fans should keep a close eye on Nate Grimes. He's a 6'7" 190-lb 3* SF from Las Vegas that Minnesota offered back in May. He has other notable offers from San Diego St., USC, and New Mexico.

Dupree plays AAU ball for New Heights, Kimani's old stomping grounds. He averages 15.6ppg on 42% shooting, 33% from 3. Looks like he can pass the rock a bit as he averages a team high 3.8apg.

It sure seems like Creighton is involved with a lot of the same recruits as the Gophers for 2015. Harris is 6'4" 3* SG out of Chicago.
