All Things Class of 2015 Recruiting - Class Finally Complete? Nope Chris Obekpa visit

I know Tubby was recruiting him, but did Pitino recruit him? I don't remember ever hearing anything about him except from folks on this board who wanted him.

Pitino definitely recruited him, but not for very long.

Yeah from the way Ryan James is making it sound we shouldn't be upset at all and the whole thing with OU is very shady.

The recruitment of Manyang has not been shady at all, but... Pitino sticks by his mantra "I only recruit players who I'd trust to babysit my daughter". Manyang does not fit into that category to say the least!

All I know is James said he continues to be very skeptical of the OU hoops program.

So im not sure if this is 2015 thread question or a 2016 thread question but, this weekend was the beginning of having contact with next years recruits. So my question is.........It can't be a good thing if we don't have any 2015 recruits yet then keeping up with the 2016 Jones' too right?

I'd phrase it more as it would be great to have a commitment at this time (obviously as quality commitment who other top schools wanted), rather than a reason for concern that we don't have a commitment yet. A lot of schools don't have a commitment yet and only about a 1/4 of the Rivals 150 have made commitments at this point in the recruiting cycle. I've hoped for an "early" Gopher commitment for quite a few years now, but it doesn't seem like we've had one since Royce White in 2008. You are right that the more time we have to spend on getting kids locked up for 2015, the harder it is to make the 2016 kids seem like a priority. At this point though, it would be more beneficial to have someone locked up (always easier with a local kid), so the staff could narrow their pool a bit on 2015 kids.

Very unlikely, but I'd find it kind of comical if we ended up with a 2016 commitment before we get one for 2015!

A few 2015 recruiting tweets I found noteworthy...

2015 Wayne (OH)/All Ohio Red forward Ahmad Wagner hopes to visit Minnesota this month. #Gophers
- Matt Jessen-Howard

Wagner says that Iowa, Minnesota, and Toledo are recruiting him the hardest. Reports offers from all three...
- Matt Jessen-Howard

With every day that goes by it's even clearer that 2015 Gopher recruiting priorities are Jarvis & Alex. Both fit system so well.
- Ryan James

As well they should be. Add two wings and we have a balanced squad. We will be young in 2015/2016, but having an entire team which fits Coach P.'s system will make things interesting.

I haven't paid attention to recruiting long enough to know when we should/shouldn't be getting guys signed. I do, however, have such high expectations for Pitino's recruiting prowess that I'm sitting here longing for the news that so and so has signed.

Its probably premature to "expect" any sort of signing activity until the fall signing period huh? When did we get verbal commits in previous years.

Buzz got Chris Clarke in on a visit recently as well. Good news and bad news because I love the kids Buzz has recruited in recent years, but I don't like the Va Tech is so close to home for both of these kids. Hopefully, Pitino can win these recruiting battles.

Ed Morrow update at http://go4report.com/latest-on-ed-morrow/

“Considering the fact that (Pitino) just offered me, he’s been recruiting me hard. I’ve been getting more and more calls from him daily,” he said. “He talks to me about my future and what I could do coming into college.”

“I’m more of an uptempo kind of player. I like to get up and down the court,” Morrow says. “They play more of an uptempo game; they get up and down. Coach P seems like he’s a great coach to be around. I’d like to get down and visit.”

Are facilities important to Morrow? “At the end of the day, no. It plays a part, but it’s not really what I’m looking for.”
Ed told The Gopher Report that bigger priorities are early playing time, playing style, and “going somewhere where I’ll be happy.”

Pitino sells everyone on the fact that we've got enough facilities and then half the interviews we see have the facility question included.... Get with the program media, Pitino is trying to sell a different product than you.

No, not really. If he wants to ask about the lack of practice facilities that is his choice.

I get that. Politically correct answer you are absolutely right. However, I'm not playing that game, homer style all the way. Matt should be an extension of coach. SELL SELL SELL

Go Gophers!!

The Anim stuff really annoys me at this point. Pitino is obviously aware of him and neither the Gophers nor any other high major team has offered him yet. There's nothing "wrong" with the Gophers not offering Sacar. He's played EYBL, he's not a secret.

I dont see why one would be annoyed by talk of Anim. He's arguably the best player on a team with 3 Gopher recruits, Gopherhole has published articles and interviews regarding him so obviously there is an interest by the Gophers staff, GH posters, and local media.

I trust Pitino and staff knows what they are doing whether they offer or don't offer, but he is a relevant topic and a good player...I dont think there is anything "wrong" with the way they are handling it either.

My personal take is that Coach P is trying to keep him on ice by keeping in close contact with Sacar. He is waiting to see if he can land some other more viable options or weigh how much of an effect Anim becoming a Gopher will have on the other HP recruits.
But other high majors may put pressure on Pitino to offer by offering themselves. I still think P will have the upper hand because our staff has been in close contact with Sacar.

I'm confident Sacar will get some high major offers, I'm also confident in the staff's handling of the situation. I really would not mind seeing him in Maroon and Gold, especially if he comes with 2 of our other 3 Howard Pulley recruits.
