All Things Class of 2015 Recruiting - Class Finally Complete? Nope Chris Obekpa visit

Yeah I know, but I also think waiting until Spring pretty much eliminates us as well. By then UK, KU, UNC, Duke, Louisville, etc. will have put on their full court press. Our only hope was an early commitment and signing.

I still think he ends up at Gtown.

STrib: 2015 forward Edward Morrow hopes to visit Minnesota

Chicago forward Edward Morrow said this weekend that he's interested in visiting Minnesota officially, but he's very unwilling to name any program leaders in the clubhouse at this point.

Asked who is recruiting him the hardest right now, the 2015 three-star player (according to Rivals) replied "All of them."

His Rivals page lists offers from Bradley, Creighton, Iowa State, Iowa, UMass, Minnesota, Nebraska, Illinois-Chicago, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and Wyoming.

"Everybody that offered me is calling me every other day," he said. "So that's good as well for me too, because I have options. I've just got to maintain my grades and keep doing what I've been doing.

"Getting those top-notch schools, that's good," he said. "It just lets you know where your game is progressing at and it also lets you know what you need to work on, talking to the coaches going into the next level."

Go Gophers!!

per Sid:

Richard Pitino and the Gophers basketball coaching staff are keeping an eye on point guard Desure Buie of Wings Academy in the Bronx. Buie has a connection with assistant Kimani Young. The Gophers haven’t offered Buie yet, and he recently told GopherHole.com, “I don’t talk to the Minnesota staff but my coach does. I like the league they play in, though. The Big Ten would be a great conference to be a part of.”

Not sure how much of a chance we have, but of the alleged 50 schools who have contacted Prince Ali (UConn decommit), he mentioned our name specifically with 5 other schools. Would be an incredible pick up considering how talented he is (read his ranking might go up). Plus, his name is Prince Ali.

He said he has been hearing from a large number of schools, "I've heard from UCLA, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Indiana, Florida State, I'm supposed to be hearing from. North Carolina real soon, and a bunch of other schools."

I love that song.

His friends, er, enemies call him Prince A-boo-boo.

Could be good for us too though. Pitino will have another year to impress him.
Hopefully, we will be way down the road with a full class by then. Holding a scholarship to next spring for a guy impressed by name programs seems like a really low probability of a positive outcome.

You don't stop recruiting a player like Trier if you are on his list even if you don't have a scholarship for him. I just think another full year could help us with Trier more than hurt. If we make a sweet 16 run this year how could that not help in landing a kid like him. I still think we have almost no shot at him.

Agreed, but if a top 150 player at his position wants to commit you definitely take him even if it means saying goodbye to your potential chances with Trier.

Good read, thanks for posting. I'd also like to add that I saw a tweet on there saying that Rivals 150 point guard Kevin Dorsey is planning on taking an official here this month.

An excerpt from the link Gopherfan12 posted:
The leader scorer on Team Takeover (12.5 ppg) would be an excellent fit in Pitino’s system. When talking to his parents, they told me that Dorsey’s top 3 schools right now are Nebraska, Virginia Tech, and Minnesota, although “Minnesota’s system is the best fit for Kevin’s game right now.” They said Minnesota is the #1 team in Kevin’s mind right now, and that they were impressed by the state (especially the MOA). The Dorsey’s will be back up here for an official in June.

Prince Ali at the bottom is someone who we should keep an eye on IMO! Dude was fearless, and put his head down and attacked the rim on the fast break, and he had a nice looking three point shot as well. If we have a chance with him, I'd be excited for some Prince!

And after winning games, he could tell opponents to cool off in the refreshing waters of Lake Minnetonka.

One way or another, I think we're going to end up with a good point guard in this class.

Ya don't say?

Dre Mathieu and Andre Hollins will just have graduated. We'll certainly get a point guard even if they're the spring of all spring recruits.

remind anybody of a current Gopher?

Kevin Dorsey /www.youtube.com/watch?v=L46dxBRGj3c

Agreed. Would be interesting if Dorsey was our first commit.

Would put us in a great situation. We could just focus on the high end guys if we want another PG, but we'd have a 4* guy to "fall back" on.

I'd be thrilled even if Dorsey is the only PG we sign though.

I'd be very happy with Dorsey, but I would have to think that shuts the door for Jarvis. At least I'd have to think so since neither seems like a fit at SG.

That's possibly true. As much as I like Jarvis, it would be downright foolish to 'hold off' on Dorsey. Both are very good players and would fill a big need extremely well imo.

Dorsey is a consensus 3-star, but has been getting a lot of hype lately so his ranking could go up. I'd still be happy with him though.

Who gives a damn about stars?

I've been on the record of not being a huge fan of Jarvis, but he is a big bodied athletic pass first pick n roll type point guard. He could be an Al Nolen style stopper because of his physical attributes. Take him the first chance we get.

Dorsey is a very familiar style PG who seems to be out of the mold that Pitino likes. Fast, ferocious and fearless at the rim. Prides himself on defense and perhaps has some intelligence (assuming with business major aspirations, know nothing about his academics). I like him a lot because he is familiar. However, I will remind you all that having a tiny PG can be a disadvantage playing against some of these big 10 teams with powerful point guards. Didn't hurt us too much last year, but there were issues with Math not getting calls in the lane and getting muscled out on the perimeter after the pick and roll.

Just correcting the poster, as I said, I would be happy with Dorsey regardless of his ultimate star ranking.

Yeah, we want as big of a PG as possible, but Mason looks to be in the 6'1 and 6'2 range so it's not like we'd only have small PGs on the roster. By the time Mason is gone, we'd likely have another PG prospect larger than Dorsey as well. I don't see Dorsey's size being a major issue.

Really disappointed they stuck a girls game in between the two boys games... guess that would be a good time to eat or grab a brew.

Do we know Dorsey's shootimg percentages?

Also, if he commits before Johnson, then we can tell Johnson to kick rocks. It would send a message to Minnesota kids that they better commit early if they like Minnesota. The hometown school will not wait on you or be your safety school. We take good players from everywhere either get on board or go somewhere else.
