All Things Class of 2015 Recruiting - Class Finally Complete? Nope Chris Obekpa visit

Jarvis still a 4 star and not likely to fall much more considering his offer list. Henry at 5 is pretty high for a 6'9 guy shooting 40% for an average EYBL team. Travis also averaged 18 and 9 and shot 48% for a number 2 rated AAU team in the country.

Travis Reid is no where near the talent Henry is.

Don't be delusional here... Reid was a McDonald's All-American, Jordan Brand Classic participant, played in the USA vs World game, 3 time state champion, top tier EYBL player, etc. Look, I don't mean to add salt to the wound here, because his decision sucks, but he's undeniably a great player who's absolutely in the same league as Henry Ellenson.

Henry is a top 5 player, he's in a tier above Travis. Henry is bigger, more athletic, and much more skilled. He also has legit NBA potential while Travis may not because of his below average height.

for a number 2 rated AAU team in the country.

Not sure who rated them #2 in the country or how they could be considered that when they were 10-6 with a number of teams ahead of them in the standings and flat out better.

Not that my opinion probably matters to a lot of people, but here is my list of the 14 recruits for 2015 that I hear the Gophers associated with the most, the order I personally want them, and our top competition that have offered at the moment (according to 247). A nice current summary if nothing else.

1. Allonzo Trier SG (Georgetown, Kansas, Louisville, Maryland, Oklahoma)
2. Alex Illikainen PF (Creighton, Cal, Nebraska, Indiana, Oregon)
3. Jimmy Whitt SG (Kansas, Arkansas, Wisconsin, Oklahoma St, Oklahoma)
4. Chris Clarke SF (Maryland, Iowa St, Tennessee, Creighton, Kansas St)
5. Jarvis Johnson PG (Wisconsin, Michigan St, Iowa St, Marquette, UNLV)
6. Akolda Manyang C (Arizona St, Oklahoma)
7. Kevin Dorsey PG (VCU, West Virginia, Virginia Tech, SMU, Nebraska)
8. Ed Morrow PF (Nebraska, Iowa, Creighton, Florida St, DePaul)
9. Dupree McBrayer SG (Seton Hall, Pitt, Norfolk St, St Peter's)

You are my new friend. I agree 100%

In 2013 AAU National Championship game Howard Pulley defeated E1T1 79-72 at Disney World behind Reid Travis 25pts/10reb. 5 Star Hoops rated them 2nd after Summer Ball was completed. Fact is Travis put up better numbers for a far better team then Henry did. 40% fg% is pretty poor for a 6"9" kid in a offense first league. The same clowns fawning over Henry who dropped the U from his list due to current coaching staff relationship with his brother would be proclaiming Travis better but forth he committed to Stanford. People need to realize that ratings are often based on a small sample of game play. Last August Travis and Henry both played in Adidas Nation Global games where Travis was big and Henry was a lightweight. Travis is obviously more athletic then Henry while Henry is longer and has far better range. Travis is without a doubt a better player today while Henry as more upside. Travis has 3 state Titles Henry none. I'll take the winner over the whiner.

You realize rankings are based on how they think they will do at the next level (some site even project to NBA), right? Both are great players, but Henry is rightfully ranked higher. They don't rank players based solely on who is the best right now.

top 5 payer or power forward?

According to 247 composite, they have Reid at 6-7 228, #5 pf in his class. They have Henry at 6-10 230, and the #9 PF in his class. I would think if Henry was more athletic and 3 inches taller and so skilled he would be rated much higher. Are you confusing h a top 10 overall player and not a top 10 pf... a big difference?

Agreed that Travis height and undersized pf game probably doesnt translate well to the NBA. Although there have been some good "short pf's" over the years from Barkley, Byron Houston, Weatherspoon, Brand, Larry Johnson, Dantley, Unseld, etc. so it's not impossible. Reid has one thing that can't be measured and that's heart and a it's mine attitude.

ESPN recently rated Henry as the #5 overall player.

Travis was big and Henry was a lightweight

Henry will be a better college player and is ahead of where Travis was a couple years ago. That simple.

No way was HP the consensus #2 AAU team in the nation last year. With all that talent their record was slightly above average, not a good year in my book.

I'll take the winner over the whiner.

Despite being more of a whiner yourself?

My choices for our 4 scholarships are:
Alex Illikainen PF
Chris Clarke SF
Kevin Dorsey PG
KJ Walton SG

ESPN scout must have seen Henry have the game of is EYBL life and missed the games where he played much poorer. They did move him to 5 overall a meteoric largely unexplained rise.

Actually my good man HP closed out at number 2 in the nation and Travis is 1 not a couple years ahead of Hank.....keep dreaming the hoop dream while others live it.

Mr. GopherWarrior? Thought so.

Keep believing what you will, they were not the second best team in the nation by any stretch of the imagination.

In the Peach Jam, Travis led his team in scoring at 22.8 points per game while shooting a remarkable 65.6% from the floor. After having one of the most impressive individual Peach Jam performances, Travis put up 22 points and 6 rebounds a game at the Global Challenge. If all this wasn’t enough, he dominated in the Super Showcase and played a key part in knocking off the top team in the country (E1T1) in the championship game. Well if you win the national AAU/Super Show Case title and beat the number one ranked AAU team in the country ....Hello?

Hello.

Yeah, nice win vs. E1T1, overall they lost more games than I would have expected with that roster.

Illikainen
Clarke
Manyang
Johnson

My "realistic" best possible class.

Not a bad list IMO, but Kenny Williams should be a few spots higher on the list. The dude can flat out score! He's a more effective player than you may think. I also get the mixed opinions on Anim, but I know for a fact that he's a more effective player than Buie, Wagner, and McBrayer. I think he deserves to at least be in your top 10. Anyways, besides that, I like this list.

Anybody know if we are really going after Marshaw Wilson anymore, or if we ever really were?

Agreed on Williams, I really hope we land him.
