All Things Class of 2015 Recruiting - Class Finally Complete? Nope Chris Obekpa visit

FWIW, Amir seemed to love the picture of the Gophers Jordan 11's floating around IG and twitter (Josh Martin did too). They do look great though, wonder if the team is getting them.

Just looked them up. Those are nice.

As an avid sneakerhead, these are my new grails.

This is great news to hear, I feel strongly about MN chance to land these kids. At least 3 of them, that would be great. If sacar improves his shooting he could be dangerous, it seems like Pitino is on good track to land in-state talent. Imagine if Pitino could have been able to showcase his brand to the "big 3/4" a little more, I think we land at least 1 or 2 of those guys.

I know Nueman is on the gophers radar... Maybe Rosga or Broman as shooters.
I think at least one of those guys will be seriously considered or offered.
We might as well be known as the Howard Pulley Gophers. J/k

Pitino has a brand of basketball that is appealing to young and athletic players that's great.

I like Marshawn Wilson a lot too, if we could land him that would be a great get. He doesn't play for Pulley, but I think he would be one of the best players on the team if he did.
Athletic, strong, can shoot, and handle well... 6'2-6'3" ish he is a beast.

Think Marshawn will get an offer from the Gophers? I hope he does

Virginia point guard Kevin Dorsey says #Gophers are at the top of his list -- and he's impressed by Richard Pitino.

I just want one high-level MN prospect to take a stand and say "I want to be part of a group of kids that stay and take the Gophers to the next level". This state produces enough talent to make a difference every year. Alex,Jarvis, Sacar, Sam, Marshawn...put your heads together and bring the U to national prominence!

For those wondering about Piper, he definitely needs to attend two years at North Idaho College and obtain his associates degree, but I do think he will be strongly recruited by the Gophers in 2016. He could possibly have 3 years of eligibility if he chose to redshirt 1 year there which is what some JUCO guys choose to do (I believe Paul Carter did this).

I like him. He looks athletic and a good passer. Really nice pull up too.

4* according to 247 with some decent offers.

EXCELLENT defender, athletic, and has good vision. Offense is off and on and could use some work finishing near the hoop as well. Love the kids attitude, his parents are awesome, and we are definitely in the mix.

per Marcus:

Cape Henry Collegiate (Va.) High school forward Chris Clarke and his parents took an unofficial visit Friday to the University of Minnesota campus. They couldn't interact with the Gophers but saw what the university had to offer.

"I didn't get to see the facilities because of the dead period," said Clarke, who plays for the Boo Williams AAU team. "But I got to see the academic side of the school. I'm not really looking for upgraded facilities but a rowdy crowd that loves basketball."

"Coach Pitino has been talking to me a lot," Dorsey said. "They show me love, and I appreciate that. I know they won the NIT. I watched that. I really like their style. They are close to the top. They're in my top three now."

The 6-7 Morrow wowed fans at High Performance Academy in Eagan with seven dunks and 14 rebounds in a Saturday morning game.

"But I really would consider Minnesota," Morrow said. "I want to get to know their coaches, the staff and players a little bit more on a visit."

I watched most of the Clarke vs Trier matchup, and Clarke wowed me! The man is an animal on the glass, and quick and aggressive enough to take defenders to the rim off the dribble quite often. He looks to be about 6'6, but I could honestly see him thriving as a 3 or 4 in Minnesota. Reminded me of Mbakwe, except Clarke has more guard skills.

*Trier also impressed me, although I was coming in expecting that. He's elite!

I think we are going to get at least one really good point guard in this class. The recruits are taking notice of Mathieu's sudden rise out of no where. It's also crazy how many of these kids watched our NIT run and really liked what they saw. Goes to show a serious NIT run can pay some dividends on the recruiting trail.

If Coach Pitino offers Neumann, Rosga, or Broman, we should be looking for another coach.

Trier is a pipe dream - time to move on.

Clarke, Morrow, and Dorsey would all be very good gets. Really like all 3.

I'll be in the minority (and I'm sure ripped to shreds), but I just don't see it with Jarvis. Has everything you could want....yet I've never seen him have a great game. Maybe I've just missed all of them. I do, however, love Sacar and think he is worthy of an offer.

Finally - remember that Pitino holds his recruiting cards very close to the vest. We are probably interested in some guys we don't know about yet.

I'll take any of those three if they wanna walk on. They are all D1 players just likely not high major recruits. As far as the guys we have a realistic shot at, the two guys I want Pitino to land are Alex and Akolda. I love Alex's game and I think he is going to be a very good college player. Akolda would most likely step in as the starting center and give us a very good rim protecter to pair with King, Martin, and hopefuly Alex.

After those two, I'm sure Pitino will want to bring in a PG and a Wing. I too am cooling a little bit on Jarvis. His jumping ability is great, he is a solid passer and ball- handler, but none of his skills really stand out. He isn't the quickest guard and doesn't get in the lane as much as a guy like Dorsey does. At this point I would prefer Dorsey over Jarvis. We have offered a plethora of Wings so we shall see how that plays out. I agree with Trier, he's blowing up and he will be able to play wherever he wants, I haven't heard anything with him regarding Minnesota in awhile.

Well he's retweeted Gopher fans as recently as 9 hours ago and listed us this weekend as a school he's hearing a lot from (as well as a handful of others). I think we'll be in it to the end kind of like Whitehead. The key will be getting one of his 5 officials. Not until then will I believe we actually have a shot.

Sounds like Jarvis bounced back and had a really nice game this morning.

I know this isn't the 2016 thread, but just seeing Amir with 20 in that tweet gives me the urge to reiterate how much I want that kid to end up in the maroon and gold. He'd probably be Pitino's first lottery pick.

Amir is really really good. Honestly, will end up being better than any of this years big 3 I think.

I've never seen him play besides highlight tapes anybody care to give a summary on what kind of player he is?

I unfortunately have never seen him play live, but from what I've read and seen in clips is that he's a PG in a SF's body.

I've seen him play 1 game in the state championship. He didn't have his best game that night. You can tell the kid has a lot of potential though

He has some ball handling qualities and seems to be quick, but he uses his length really well in getting to the hoop and also defending the rim. His stroke is nice, and he is a threat from three for sure. He plays aggressive, and if he bulks up a bit, (his biggest flaw right now) he could possibly wind up being a Top 10-15 recruit!

He's also pretty good on the fast break

Marcus blog: Gophers recruiting: Mac Irvin Fire forward Ed Morrow on Pitino: “He cares about his players.”

On Saturday at High Performance Academy in Eagan, Morrow opened with a 22-point, 14-rebound performance that gave Gophers fans a glimpse of one of Minnesota coach Richard Pitino’s targets in the Class of 2015.

“I know for one thing he’s a great guy and he cares about his players,” Morrow said about Pitino. “They’re a run and gun team. They like to move the ball and shoot it. Overall, I like the program.”

Morrow, a three-star prospect ranked 106th in the 2015 class by Rivals.com, is being recruited harder by other Big Ten schools such as Iowa and Nebraska (his dad played football and mom played basketball for the Cornhuskers). But he still wants to get to know the Gophers’ program better moving forward.

“I’ll get down there on a visit,” Morrow said. “I talked to (Pitino) before I came down here. He was telling me like how he wanted me to come to campus. But I couldn’t do it because of the rules (recruited dead period).”

MN Daily: Gophers recruit uses AAU stop to see Minnesota
Chris Clarke will likely be back for an official visit.

With temperatures approaching the eighties, Chris Clarke, a rising high school senior, toured the University’s urban campus with his parents, who made the trip from Virginia.

“It was definitely eye-opening,” Clarke’s father, Curt, said. “A lot of people don’t know what’s out here … I was pleasantly surprised.”

With the Clarke family’s time in Minnesota falling on a recruiting dead period, Chris and his parents weren’t able to meet with Pitino or tour athletics facilities per NCAA rules. But walking around the East Bank gave the Clarkes an opportunity to see the campus where Chris could spend the next four years of his life.

Chris Clarke said Minnesota is one of the schools going after him the hardest along with Tennessee, Virginia Tech, Creighton and Iowa State.
