All Things Charles Buggs Thread - Season Long Updates on the Future Gopher

ColNathanJessup

You're the man. Impeccable work.

So here's a hypothetical. What if Trevor comes back next year... Rodney stays... What happens scholarship-wise.

Ellenson and Buggs get their scholarship.... Ingram is SOL?

Not sure who it'd be, but yes someone is SOL. and if Philip Nolan also says he wants to be a Gopher, Tubby has another decision to make.

Having had no first-hand experience around college athletics, I always wondered how "certain transfers" worked. Does an assistant coach take a player aside and kind of let him know that playing time might not happen here and that other schools are looking for starters right now?

this thread may need to be re-named. It has never had much info on Charles Buggs play but now has evolved into discussing who gets cut if......

to anyone who takes the time to listen to the radio links mentioned earlier- please post a re-cap. thanks

I'm going to listen later tonight. I'll let you know.

If Trevor comes back and Rodney stays, could Ellenson reclassify as long as he promises his commitment? Tubby and Co. could give him the same workout schedule as the rest of the players. I'm assuming Buggs wouldn't want to reclassify, because he has already reclassified once.

The thing is prep school is not cheap so I doubt they would try to force someone to do that. If they really like Ellenson I can see them getting one of the guards to transfer.

Calling Dr Don, calling Dr Don, you're urgently needed in the Charles Buggs thread.

I didn't get the chance to listen to any of them today, I will next time I get the chance but my classes start tomorrow so IDK when that will be.

No way in the world is Trevor going to be allowed to come back by the NCAA.

I like both recruits. Ellenson may be our most athletic player except for Williams. Not sure how close he is to being a 3 point shooter, but farther ahead than Joe. Don't see him as a go to scorer. Better defensive player than Joe, good rebounder and free throw shooter. Physically strong like Joe.

Buggs has an very good mid-range jumper. Plays PF now, but may start out at SF. Very long and athletic. One article even referred to him as a point forward. His coach said he has 3 point range, and is an above average defender and free throw shooter. Solid rebounder, goes hard to the basket. I think he's a little too skinny to be an impact player next year.

For what it's worth, I played at an NAIA school with a SG drafted in the 3rd round by the Bulls.

It makes it seem less likely that something fishy is going on, so it actually is kind of a relief to see him mentioned.

True.

Listening to the most recent Talk Gopher Buckets podcast and Ryan James mentions that a poster on GI had talked to the play by play guy at Hargrave about Buggs. According to that play by play guy Hargrave has a 7-8 man rotation and Charles Buggs is NOT in that rotation. On the positive side, the play by play guy does "see the potential" in Buggs.

As if further bad news was needed, James doesn't like the Gophers chances with Tyus Jones and thinks it comes down to an MSU/Duke battle for his services.

Hey, if he's not in the rotation and can get 14 points and 7 rebounds, he uses his time well.

Agreed. Plus, he's going up against great competition every day in practice. Can't hurt his development. If we were the only high-major program to offer Buggs, I would be a little more discouraged by his lack of playing time. Fact is, it's not just Tubby that thinks this kid is capable of playing for a (relatively) quality program.

I also don't really think the play-by-play guy is someone I would go to for insight. If GI wants insight they should just listen to the radio broadcasts someone posted here (I'm going to if I can find the time this weekend).

You think maybe he snuck a peek at his offer list?

Not in the rotation, but averages 14 and 7? I find that hard to believe. He must not average 14 and 7 per game, but instead per 36 minutes or however long their games are. Everyone's "averages" go up if you look at it that way (unless you play 100% of the game obviously).

That's not his average. That was his stats in one game, one of the few times he was mentioned in a write-up. If anyone hear wants to figure out an average and figure out how long he plays in games, listen to the radio broadcasts that were posted.

His team scores over 100 points in a game most of the time (they have scored 140+ 4 times) so 14 and 7 isn't that big of an accomplishment.

My bad, wasn't thinking. What was his supposed average though? Didn't his coach claim it was something close to that?
