All Things Charles Buggs Thread - Season Long Updates on the Future Gopher

Actually JuCo teams play JV teams for colleges; prep schools play other prep schools and prep schools don't play defense.
Is that so? Well, I looked at the schedule for Hargrave and Buggs plays on the team that has already graduated. i.e. not eligible to play high school teams withplayers with HS eligibility. I saw quite a few JV teams on their schedule. Take a look, you might enjoy it.

Joey King is looking better all the time.

No disrespect to him at all, but seriously?

No other big 10 or even BCS school offered him. Yet tubby is dumb for signing two guys with multiple BCS offers? Yeah, okay.

When I looked at their schedule awhile ago I saw them playing other schools with post graduates, though I didn't look at all of it. It could be that for their league they play other post graduate schools and they also play JV teams for more games. I do know for sure though, that JuCo schools play JV teams from colleges. I have a friend that is playing at a JuCo this year and I've been talking to him about his season. Could be just more filler games, so to speak.

Minngg does not want to say anything positive about Buggs because he's a Tubby recruit.

I've been reading this thread long enough.... Something isn't adding up... is Buggs a ghost? Maybe I over estimate the reach of the vast Gopherhole empire. Is our only conduit to Hargrave through a boxscore and an occasional Q and A with a dodgy coach? Someone's gotta be in the know. We're talking Virginia, not the remote villages of Africa..... Isn't there something more on this guy?

From this past summer - not this season - but to the extent it satisfies your curiosity:

This is a head scratcher. I think you summed up a lot of people's thoughts there. We know for sure that he gets deflections when he plays and that's about it for certainties.

Do you expect someone to fly out to Virginia and steal the stats from his school or something? Unless someone lives out there and goes to all of his games what we can find on the internet, which isn't much, is all we have.

EDIT:
In the link posted above, what are Total Scoring Points?

I guess my answer is... yeah.... Like I said... maybe I'm over estimating the reach of this website... but is it inconceivable that someone that frequents this site might have a close relative or something in the vicinity of Hargrave to at least sneak a peek at this guy. I guess for anyone that's a Buggs fan down there in Virginia that is perusing this thread because you're interested in this guys future and what that school's fan base might be expecting of him... please chime in. Your thoughts would be better than the nothing that we're getting now.

Honestly, after reading this thread.... I keep expecting some news to come out of the U that they have gone a different direction and pulled their commitment to Buggs.... doesn't exactly get you pumped up about this guy.

So you expect members of a website that is FREE to PAY to go to Virginia to watch this guy? Or have a family member that lives in Virginia PAY to go to the games to watch some guy he's likely never heard of? I'm sorry, but you're expecting A LOT. Idk what kind of "reach" this website can have on this outside of Monter calling the coach or, flying out there to watch.

If this Hargrave squad is sooooo dynamic that they actually have multiple D1 prospects.... so much so that our D1 prospect doesn't even make the boxscore, maybe we should all be making the pilgrimage down to Chatham to get to the bottom of this.... Might be the best high school team ever assembled.

They do have 5 guys with D1 scholarships, at least, but this happens every year at these prep schools. It's not really anything THAT special. I believe Andre Drummond, who at least one of the recruiting services had as last year's top recruit, played at a post-graduate prep school.

5 guys D1... not that special... Sounds pretty special to me... so much so that OUR guy isn't in the boxscore.

I'm with you, Madman. Prep sports have become such an industry. With the wide availability of stats, videos, and other information on high-major D1 recruits, you would think we'd be able to find a little more about this guy. Also, in investigative/mysterious situations like this, I always think back to how above-and-beyond some people went to get us information about the football coach hiring process (recon missions at airports, etc.). Granted, that situation was mainly happening in Minnesota and had much larger implications...but I'd find it hard to believe there's not a basketball-loving GopherHoler in that area who'd be willing to scout a game or something. Unless Buggs is a ghost.

I've learned to never underestimate the vast reaches of the GopherHole empire.

This has nothing to do with Buggs, but for a prep team, having 4 or 5 guys go D-I is no big deal at all. Par for the course. Happens all the time. These guys are all a year older than most any high schooler, and will still have 5 years to play 4 when they get to their college. A good prep player is worth his weight in gold, especially for non-elite schools who need to take advantage of a player's natural development over time to be able to compete with the big boys.

Is Buggs still even playing basketball?

Last year we discussed Dre Hollins and Joe Coleman regularly. Why can we not find one shred of information on Buggs? He still isn't listed as a recruit on our database. There is zero information about him on the web?

Can someone who runs gopher hole get us the real scoop?

thanks jon. i enjoy your links and don't like when you tend to disappear for a month like you've now done a few times. lol.

Buggs may be a somewhat "Matt Cassell" type pick up. Sure he seems to be more of a back up on his team, not getting many minutes I'd guess, but when you are backing up some really good high school players, you could still be the better (or just as good of) college player.

Cassell saw limited action at USC and yet got drafted by the Patriots.

From what I understand Buggs is a starter, but he is unselfish to a fault, passing up his shots to give them to others. (this is my speculation based on interviews and articles that I've seen)

So I was on the Hargrave website and saw a picture of a radio broadcast team at the game. I couldn't find a broadcast schedule on their website so I emailed the program director. Here is what he said.

Thank you for reaching out. Gary can probably answer more about how Buggs
has played since he covers the team and broadcasts their games. As for
our next game broadcasts, we are slated to broadcast Hargrave in the First
Piedmont Invitational, on Friday, February 24, 2011, with a broadcast
airtime of 7:40 PM ET and, Tip at 8:00 PM. You may listen at
ESPNSouthside.com or enter http://sc6.spacialnet.com:29840/ into your
Blackberry, iPhone or Android.

Please let me know how else we can help. Thank you!

Sincerely,

Ed Lane

It's a ways away but hopefully I'll be able to listen and get some thoughts at least. If I can't I hope someone else can listen in. Also, I'm hoping maybe Gary the play by play guy will give us some thoughts on watching Buggs. I'll post if I get anything.

Thank you ColNathan Jessup! Any update would be great.
