All Things 2024-25 Vikings Regular Season Thread

How about this? Darnold recovers nicely and plays very well thru rest of post season. Vikes win a game or more.

Kwesi decides to go with Darnold and trade McCarthy, who some draft evaluators are saying would be the first QB chosen if was in this draft.

McCarthy is traded for a top 3 draft pick and Vikes use that pick to select Travis Hunter. Would be two players in one. A top cornerback would give a big boost to our defense and imagine trying to stop our offense with Hunter joining for some plays.

Would be a lot of excitement going into Viking training camp next season.

I just want to see once...just once that when Darnold sees pressure coming, he doesn't roll to his right to try to sprint out left.

Please, just once.

The Vikings might be able to get a 1st round pick for JJ, but top 3? Zero chance. He's coming off a knee injury and he's already burned up one of his "cheap" seasons.

A top 6-8 pick would be enough to land someone like CB Will Johnson from Michigan, or one of the impact DL. They don't need a top 3 pick, those will be grabbed by QB-needy teams (hopefully)

Getting a Top 15 pick for JJM is probably more realistic but I like your thinking. 👍

The one (1) position we don't need to worry about is WR, but I would trade McCarthy for a chance to draft Tetairoa McMillan in a heartbeat.

I'm not sure about the cheap seasons argument as there is also value in sitting under KOC's tutelage for a year.
Certainly any interested team would have to feel good about the knee situation, but important to remember it wasnt an acl injury.

6-8 would be fine as well. Point is a legit argument can be made for top 3. Sanders and Ward are not rated as highly as we see top QBs many years who come out.

Vikings main needs are ol, dl, and cb. Hunter is the top rated cb. WR is gravy. Very good gravy in this case 🙂.

No reason he couldn't garner a top 3 pick if he is considered as good or better than Ward and Sanders.

Vikings fans have been wishing they could grab a top QB in the draft forever. So we finally get one in the top 10 of a loaded QB draft, one who would be the #1 pick in this years draft, and now we want to trade him?

Makes zero sense.

I don't want to trade him. I think the correct move is to trade Darnold in fact.
Always have.

However maybe Kwesi/KOC see it differently and I think they probly have more insight into this situation than myself. None of us know how Vikings leadership really view Darnold and view McCarthy.

I proposed a reasonable hypothetical should the Vikings decide to stick with Darnold. That's all.

We will see. The Santa Ana winds will continue through tomorrow in the hills, although they won't be nearly as bad as the last two days as they slowly decrease. The winds switch this weekend and the air quality will improve.
Now we know, off to Glendale:

I do wonder if the value of an untested QB draft pick coming off a serious injury doesn't get depreciated like a new car purchase driving off the lot.

We've got options and that's always in our favor.

Important to remember McCarthy suffered a torn meniscus, not an acl injury.

Change of venue from field turf to natural grass would seem to have a neutral impact since both the Rams & Vikings normally play on the fake stuff.

Although, the Purple are undefeated playing on sod this year.

So we got that going for us, which is nice.

Yeah I was wrong about that, and it's definitely the right decision. I wasn't concerned about the Palisades fire having an effect on the game originally. The new fires, especially last night/today continue to make things worse.

The weather conditions will improve over the next 48 hrs so hopefully they are able get these under control, before the wind picks up again late this weekend.

If that happens and they offer Raiders PSL holders any shot, I'm all over that shit. That would be kind of awesome. Are you just speculating, or have you seen any hint of this? Just curious.

What happens to all the Vikings-Rams Vegas "Action" now that there is a change in venue?

Automatically cancelled? Optional?

Under any scenario they pick in the 3-6 range, Mason Graham is the pick.

There is zero chance anyone would be stupid enough to spend a top 3 draft choice on someone hobbling around the sidelines 4 months after a meniscus injury. No chance.

Which is why my preference is to not franchise Darnold.

Either commit to Darnold long term and trade McCarthy to get a high draft pick. Also can then spread out Darnold's cap hit if don't franchise him.
or
Commit to McCarthy long term. Release Darnold so can use the full $76 million of cap space on free agents.

The only way I would franchise Darnold is if knew could be traded for a draft pick.

This ESPN writer believes either Darnold or McCarthy will be the Giants QB next season. Giants are desperate for a a QB and have the #3 pick. That pick will be sent to the Vikes for McCarthy if Vikes go with Darnold.

Now of course no way to know this for sure and could certainly be true that the Vikings have already decided they are going with McCarthy. I hope that is the case.

If not, that #3 pick would sure be nice.

Books handled it differently. The ones I heard talking, they voided all the previous tickets. Period. Rams don't have a big home field advantage so it moved just a couple points towards the Vikings

It went from MIN -1.5 to -2.5 after they announced the game was being moved.

I'd love to sit in a room with the Vegas odds makers just to hear their thought process for establishing the lines of games. Fascinating stuff to me.
