All Things 2023-2024 Minnesota Timberwolves In-Season Thread

Rudy with 17 boards
Holmgren with 4 points
Edwards with 40 minutes, most of any player
Win in spite of Shai getting 16 free throws
No turnovers in the last 5 minutes

Wolves (33-14) even the season series by beating OKC (32-15) 107-101. A victory where the Wolves as a team got 15 free throws while Gilgeous-Alexander got 16.

Very solid 4th Quarter for many Wolves. Towns, Edwards, McLaughlin and McDaniels all contributed to taking the game and the Quarter.

Wolves defeat Thunder in battle for first in West, look like themselves again

The Timberwolves, playing without veteran Mike Conley, executed late and beat the Oklahoma City Thunder 107-101 on Monday night to grab first place in the Western Conference.

Just after closing the books on their worst week of the season, the Timberwolves looked like themselves again.

Even without veteran guard Mike Conley, and despite fourth-quarter troubles all month long, the Wolves executed down the stretch and came away with an impressive 107-101 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday night.

The Wolves used a 9-0 run inside of three minutes to pull away for the victory, with almost everyone who played coming up with a big contribution. All five starters had double figures, led by Anthony Edwards with 27 points and Karl-Anthony Towns with 21.

They overcame a commanding performance from the Thunder's Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who scored 37 points, 15 of which came at the free-throw line.

The Wolves trailed 97-96 before getting key buckets from Jaden McDaniels, who had five points during the stretch for 14 points overall. Edwards had a drive and a dunk that announced this night was different for the Wolves..

There's no better evidence that NBA officiating is an absolute joke than the unwritten, universally accepted rule that players need to reach superstar status in order to 'earn' calls. Dude hung on Ant's arm all the way to the basket - F'ING CALL IT

OKC and Denver play each other on Wednesday as well so one of the two has to lose.

Well, they don't like Ant in OKC

below the video, read the comments. LMAO

Warriors beat the 76er's last night 119-107. That was a surprise. What was even more surprising is that Joel Embid only had two free throws. Two!

Guess that makes the Warrior victory no surprise at all.

The other "non-surprise"? Recaps of the game didn't mention the free throw amount

Here's one for you!

The Houston Rocket announcers were mocking this stat the other night when playing the Lakers.

The lakers have shot 233 more free throws than the opponents they have played in games this year. That is by far away the highest number in the NBA.

The Lakers are ranked dead last in going to the basket in the NBA!

Can't make it up

Ant hit with fine for comments about officials ---

The NBA has fined Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards $40,000 for "repeatedly publicly criticizing the officiating," the league announced Wednesday.

Edwards' costly comments came in an interview after Monday's 107-101 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder.

"I'm gonna take the fine, because the refs did not give us no calls tonight," Edwards said. "We had to play through every bump, every grab. I don't know. I don't know how we won tonight."

That continued after the game, when Edwards continued his griping in an interview with ESPN.

"The refs was bad tonight. Yeah, they was terrible," Edwards told ESPN. "We was playing 8-on-5."

NBA officiating punishes physically built players like Ant that refuse to flop. If he was built like SGA and easily jarred, he'd 4-6 more free throws per game IMO.

Seriously Rudy?!

No kidding. The ref didn't see the guy(s) hit Rudy's arm but when he pushed back to retaliate the whole damn world was gonna see that. On back-to back plays no less! Even if they sold it a little the fouls had to be called.

Oh and if you're begging for foul calls, here's a tip. When you get them hit the damn free throws!

52-48 Wolves at the half.

They may win this game, but there are a ton of reasons why many people don't consider the Wolves a serious contender. Plenty of time to right the ship, though.

Towns is playing very well tonight, and so is......yeah that's about it.

Looking at the last couple of weeks of basketball in the NBA only the Celtics should be considered a serious contender.

Seriously. And that's just odd.

The bench is 5 for 18 and every starter is shooting above .500. Unless that bench can be upgraded their play won't be upgraded either.

Wolves (34-14) beat the Mavericks (26-22) 121-87. The talent depleted Mavericks finally started to crumble in the 3rd when the Wolves outscored them by 9. Then they put them away by beating them by 21 in the 4th. They host the Magic Friday night.

Towns leads Timberwolves in 121-87 win over Mavs team missing Doncic and Irving

MINNEAPOLIS -- — Karl-Anthony Towns had 29 points and nine rebounds for the Minnesota Timberwolves in a 121-87 victory over the depleted Dallas Mavericks, who played Wednesday night without stars Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.

Rudy Gobert scored 17 points for the West-leading Wolves (34-14). They endured a sluggish start until Towns sparked their surge with two 3-pointers in the last 35 seconds of the first half to give them the lead for good. Towns had 11 points in the third quarter.

Doncic (sprained right ankle) and Irving (sprained right thumb) both sat for the third game this season, and the Mavericks have lost all three. They've played without at least one of them 26 times in 48 games.

Josh Green had 18 points and Tim Hardaway Jr. added 14 points for the Mavericks. They shot just 6 for 29 from 3-point range against the NBA's best scoring defense. This was the fewest points allowed by the Wolves this season.

This low-profile Mavericks lineup gave the Wolves a bit of a breather after a four-game road trip they finished with a statement win at Oklahoma City, but for the fans in Minnesota who wanted to see Doncic the injury report was quite the buzz kill. The four-time first-team All-NBA pick also sat out the Dec. 28 game herebecause of soreness in his left quadriceps. Irving didn't play in that one, either..

I feel ya on the sentiment here, but this one didn't age too well.....
