All Things 2014 Basketball Recruiting Thread

The entire "Osama" is silent, or at least that's what Anas said. I'm aware of silent letters in words but I don't think I've seen an entire name being silent.

Think osama is the name of his father which is typically given to all the kids of the father but you don't pronounce it when you say his name. Its away to identify a someone, sort of like saying Mahmoud son of osama

"Big Shift?"

He was 100% Minnesota with 1 of 1 prediction on Feb 1st. 4 more dudes predicted or changed predictions as of yesterday 3 for UofM and 1 for Florida....

No one should be excited yet.... It's EARLY

Yup, too early to read too much into the Crystal Ball...and that's coming from a crystal baller. We'll know way more by next week. Mahmoud takes officials to Georgia Tech and Minnesota from the 16th-19th.

Jumping the gun a bit, being that almost half of that roster is unknown, but I like the direction we are headed. Spring recruiting has become much more exciting than the previous handful of years!

Agreed we will be very young in 2015-16, that'll probably be a year of learning how to win, I think the two following years will be some very good one's. I also think we will have a pretty good squad next year. Anyways back to Anas

Was Kobe Eubanks always a 4-star on ESPN? Or was he bumped up a star in the latest updates? I'm starting to lean in his direction since it seems like he is the better shooter between him and Piper. I'd be happy with either though. And of course Mahmoud should be our number one priority.

I like Piper and think Coach P. and staff will sign him. The question is where do you look next? Do you sign a big who may or may not be ready to play, or get more immediate help to get off the bubble? Once the season ends, coaches will get fired, change jobs etc., and a handful of players will seek their release. There will also be graduate transfers. With a healthy Dre, I think we go dancing. If we fail, Coach P. has no choice but to go all in for 2014/2015. We lose 5 seniors after 2014/2015 and I'm not sure he can build a team quickly enough to go dancing in 2015/2016. Needless to say, how we end this recruiting year is very important.

My dream scenario for 2014.

Oto takes advantage of the graduate transfer rule.
Wally quits the team and gets a full ride for track or transfers.

Sign Mahmoud
Sign Piper/Eubanks.

Keep a schloarship open for a graduate transfer or a mid season transfer.

PG - Mathieu, Mason, Shell (on scholarship if we bank one)
SG - Hollins, McNeil
SF - Morris, Piper/Eubanks, Buggs
PF - Martin, King, Mahmoud
C - EE, Moe

Next year our classes would like this (with 1 scholarship unallocated):

Seniors: Dre, EE, Mo, Mathieu
Juniors: King, Morris
Sophomores: Buggs, McNeil
Freshmen: Mason, Piper/Eubanks, Martin, Mahmoud

The classes are a little more evened out.

I like your scenario because it positions us about as well as can be expected for 2015/2016. I'm assuming a 6-10 Martin or Mahmoud will play the 5. I'm not sure Oto will be the one to go, but I am expecting a surprise.

I'm guessing 6'9" Martin will play the 4 unless Buggs steps up. We need someone long and athletic at the 4 for the press to work the way Pitino wants it to.

Since Dre is healthy, I think we are going dancing this year. If we fail, I think we will see the type of personnel changes this program is not used to seeing. In other words, he will be forced to look short term and not long term. Coach P. surely knows he can't afford to go 0-2 and then replace 5 seniors. I support the program whatever which way it goes, but I'm hardly in the majority.

Admittedly I haven't watched either. But I like Kobe just because his name is Kobe.

And I like Piper because of how much he seems to really love Minnesota so far.

I'd be thrilled with either.

Eubanks has a lot of teams on his list and its hard to know what schools are truly in the running for him, we need him to make an official visit for us to have any shot at him

I really don't know who I want between piper and eubanks, really want both to be honest after seeing this tweet. They are different players, and we can use both. Piper would be a nice replacement to austin it sounds like, and Eubanks just seems like an awesome shooter, and we can always use shooters. Cant we sign both, let wally go, and if anas decides he wants to play here, encourage oto to transfer and play somewhere else since he is graduating?

Generally not a fan of over-signing or of talking about current players leaving the team, but putting all that aside, if you have a chance to sign this caliber of player, you just do it.

Zags: Kobie Eubanks Says Pitt Working Hardest, Will Visit Soon

After going off for a game-high 24 points including five 3-pointers and a vicious two-handed dunk in a 72-56 victory over St. Peter’s Prep at the Metro Classic, Kobie Eubanks said one school is working the hardest for his services.

“Pittsburgh,” the 6-foot-5 Eubanks told SNY.tv.

“They offered back in January but Jamie Dixon has come to see him,” Our Savior assistant Eric Jaklitsch said. “He saw him in practice, he’s been to campus twice to see Damon and all the coaching staff came to see Kobie as well.”

Eubanks also listed Wichita State, Missouri, Minnesota, Providence, Murray State and Florida State among his other offers.

He may take other visits after Pitt and then make a decision when ready.

“I’m not sure,” he said. “After my visits end. That’s when I’ll decide.”

Sorry if this has been stated already, but is there a timeline on Piper?

Good sign that he's watching the game and seems to like who would be his future point guard.
