All Things 2014 Basketball Recruiting Thread

I don't think it's anything to really worry about at this point in regard to the Gophers chances, but I just felt we would have heard at least something new by now. I really hope we get both of these guys and maybe I'm just getting too impatient. Here's the latest we've heard about the timing of their decisions from what I can gather:

Morris...from Amelia's 10-2 blog:
Morris is participating in jamborees this weekend and next and hopes to squeeze the UAB visit in between or immediately after.
“I told them I would make that visit happen, so I want to be a man of my word,” Morris said. “I will probably make a decision after that.”

Mason...from Zagoria's 10-13 blog:
“I am ready to get it over with,” he said. “I’m not sure yet [when he will decide].”

Sarcasm is not allowed on GopherHole, didn't you know that?

I'll try to pick up the nuances of Gopher Hole posting as I continue to gain experience. I'm slightly ashamed that I hadn't picked up on that sooner, particularly as it relates to your posts.

So when can we expect to hear any new recruiting news? Anyone know when Reid plans to announce??

Last we heard, he was offered to announce on live television by ESPN a couple of days after the start of the early signing period which is early November I believe.

Yeah, November 15 was the ESPN announcement date that was given if he chooses that route.

I don't know if the post about Shayok/Miller was supposed to be sarcastic towards Coach Pitino given the username of the poster, but this staff never had much interest in Miller. Shayok was a guy they wanted, but couldn't get a visit out of.

From Carlos Morris' twitter account it appears he is visiting UAB this weekend.

Thanks for the Morris update; I hadn't seen that he was scheduled to visit UAB this weekend. From his previous quotes, it sounded like the UAB visit was just him keeping his word since he previously told UAB he would visit. Hopefully we hear Carlos is a Gopher by next weekend!

In regard to Tory Miller, the Gophers had offered so there must have been at least some interest in him at one point. I recall Ryan James mentioning his name at some point as well. But yeah, they haven't really been on his list of schools that he has mentioned for a long time. I just thought I would mention he committed elsewhere even though we never really had a legit shot at landing him.

Tubby was recruiting Tory Miller in the class of 2013 and after he decided to re-classify to the 2014 class, I never heard Minnesota mentioned again.

Gophers hoping Fred Iduwe is a gem in the rough

Gophers hoping Fred Iduwe is a gem in the rough

Evaluating talent is not always about selecting from the highest-ranked players – especially for programs like Minnesota, which have potential but are in a building stage.

Sometimes you have to try to find a gem in the rough.

The Gophers are looking at a possible such candidate right now.

Fred Iduwe, a Nigerian native and 2014 recruit, is basically an unknown at this point. Perhaps that’s because he’s only been playing organized basketball for about three and a half years.

But already, he has intrigued the Gophers’ staff, and his new coach, Bryan Clayton, at St. John’s Northwestern Military Academy in Wisconsin.

I don't know that this is "news" but Crystal Ball is now picking Bradley for Cunningham. Doesn't appear that the Gophers are still in the mix.

Anybody else get the sense that we've backed off of recruiting in general big time? Is it just because the big guys are gone, or are we quietly confident that we have some recruits basically wrapped up? It seems to me like one of the two who appear to be deciding soon will be Gophers, and then it's time to cross fingers and hope for Reid and/or Rashad.

I think they're just really confident with Morris (possibly Mason too) and don't want to take any other players before Reid and Rashad decide.

I asked Ryan James about the status of Carlos Morris and Nate Mason. He indicated that Carlos is still taking visits and that Georgia and South Florida have now come into his recruitment. As for Mason, his guess was that he was still trying to decide.

Apparently about an hour ago Ryan James talked to Nate Mason and he said he was "in the middle of an important conversation with his mom." News could be on the horizon.

I like your enthusiasm but I have important conversations with my Mom about my dog, suv and family related topics. Let's hope he's correct though, and he picks us.

James said he talked to source who said it was about his college decision. Take it FWIW.

Go Gophers!!

Two 2014 Scholarships left.... who gets them? Do the Gophers hold out for Travis and Vaughn? Do they take the next to commit?

Potential dilemma. Would be hard to turn away Carlos the Gopher.

Even if there was only one projected scholarship slot left... if Travis and Vaughn (and/or Tyus) wanted to come to Minnesota I think you'd gladly bring them in.

If good student-athletes who are strong fits want to come, bring 'em on.

Josh Gray de-committed from Florida State. He was once on our radar, not sure if that's the case anymore since Mason is board.

Does this mean that we have lost some of our momentum on Morris or are we just keeping our options open? Another look at a JUCO SG.

Looks like the kid was pretty legit coming out of HS.

I'm a fan.

Carlos "Squirrel" Morris has just committed to the University of Minnesota, per a source. #Gophers
