All Things 2014 Basketball Recruiting Thread

With Appling graduating this year, I don't understand why MSU didn't cast a wider net for PGs all along. There were more than a dozen top flight PGs available this year, and yet Izzo seemed to put all his eggs in one basket, first with Tyus Jones and then with Ulis. Laziness, arrogance, or maybe a bit of both?

I feel bad for our staff and feel a bit frustrated as a fan that all of this excitement over the last 3-4 months has not led to any commitments yet. But on the other hand, keep in mind that guys also decommit ... we might be better to get our commitments closer to signing day. Heck, even Indiana looked in great shape a month ago and now is starting over.

Gotta think they're a serious contender for Whitehead now. Will Richard go after Lyle?

Think Lyle has some issues. We'll see what Rick tells Rich about him, but I won't be surprised either way. We really need a PG, but if he has issues it might not be worth it.

The recruiting world is a strange one: Win the National Title with great guard play, then have TWO guards de-commit from your program.

I think Pitino is realizing quickly that recruiting to Minnesota is a tall order (nationally). I think he is up for the task and expect a couple nice players this year.. but if he were smart, I would ramp up the Vaughn and Travis recruitment to another level.

Josh Martin's visit next week has become extremely important.

We need to get some good news around here in the worst way. This is starting to get depressing.

Things are about as sullen as it could ever get in these past two months, with recruits we were confident about our chances with pledging to other schools, Rakeem Buckles not being able to come here... Hopefully something goes our way for a change, because us Gopher fans deserve some good news.

Being his first class at Minnesota and the fact that he started late in the process for many of these recruits it was going to be and probably always will be tough to recruit the top nationally ranked players to Minnesota regardless.

However that didn't stop GHolers from proclaiming Pitino's first class was going to include whatever top player was mentioned next and become the greatest recruiting class in the history of University of Minnesota basketball.

We deleted a number of posts debating Tubby and Pitino's recruiting. That debate is fine, but not in a thread where people turn to for updates on 2014 recruiting. Thanks for understanding.

Yeah, I think you're right. The fact that he keeps changing schools, can't keep a commitment that he only made a few months ago, and even Dan Dakich remarked that Lyle was the type of player that gets a coach on the hot seat. Not sure how well he plays with others - maybe too much of a ball hog at PG. That being said, he's a physical specimen and stud athlete so he would fit the billing of what a coach like Bill Self has gotten to Kansas lately.

I know the PF is Josh Martin, but no idea who the Rivals150 PG would be. Possibly LaChance or Henriquez?

LaChance and Martin visiting.

Gotta like that LaChance is taking an official here so soon after we got in the mix.

Would anyone be surprised to see Lachance as a Gopher commit within a week or so? I could see it.

Rivals and 247 show LaChance visiting Baylor this weekend. Might still be him as GW said recruiting is fluid. Wonder who is it though if not LaChance.

PG could be Alex Robinson. I know we didn't make his final 3 but these are young people making major life decisions.

Just talked to @JoshMartin_206 and it is indeed @riley_lachance3 said he doesn't know to much about him but hopes to get to know him better this weekend. Josh is looking good, visited Florida State this past weekend but they have commits from Cinmeon Bowers 6'6" 235lbs Mavin Saunders 6'5" 233
