I shouldn't say anything because the Gophers have jumped in late for several recruits, but this sudden admiration is very nauseating.

Should we be surprised that Whitehead did this to us? Didn't even come and check Minnesota out? No. He never seriously considered us. And I have no reason to believe any recruit will treat us differently. I'd like to think we have a shot with Martin, and LaChance, but this has happened far too much to the Gophers for me to have hope at landing ANYONE in the top 150. Things are just awful for us recruiting right now. :(
Maybe some recruit will pleasantly surprise me.

I think he was (and hopefully still is) seriously considering us. It's not like the case of Tyus Jones where we're the token home school and so he lets us think we have a shot; I don't think Whitehead has any incentive to keep us on his final list if he genuinely has no intention whatsoever of coming here. I thought he was planning on visiting here at some point, but maybe something about St. John's or Seton Hall just really wowed him and now he's set on going there.

Frustrating though. Two or three weeks ago I don't remember the names of those two schools even being mentioned and they seem to have just rocketed to the front of the pack out of nowhere.

I think Whitehead's mom and girlfriend got their wish. Isaiah probably liked the sound of going away for school but in the end the comfort of home won out. Nothing Pitino and Young can do in that case.

Exactly. Bloomington's boringness is as far as he got from home. He liked the national attention during the recruiting process (and MN was giving it to him) but didn't take trips far from home to see if he was interested.

We need to get our Big 3 some girlfriends. Come on ladies, get to it!

Uhhh... Tyus' girlfriend is a top 35 volleyball recruit in the country for 2014, she is on the USA junior national team, she is HOT as a whistle, and she is headed to Marquette on scholarship. So she's got her own agenda. It's not like Tyus would play here in the first place. Rashad and Reid don't have a girl, they should get one though... (Carlie Wagner maybe??)

Well we don't really have a chance with Tyus anyways... so let's get this plan rolling.

I really hope Tum Tum countered by asking why he wasn't #1 on his list for recruits then?

It means in his workout today he made 422/500 midrange shots and 87/100 3 pointers.

I always thought he looked bigger than the 6'7" and 215 Ibs the major sites listed him at. My guess is the 6'9" might be an exaggeration (or maybe in some thick shoes) but he sure looks like his frame could hold 230+.

To the other questions, I would bet we keep recruiting Reid Travis, yes. He's a different sort of player than Martin and, if we were so lucky, we could take both. Let's not get ahead of ourselves though. Right now we just need some talent to commit.

I agree, no way we don't take both.

so realistically what are the few recruits that are larger profile that we still have a chance at even? I don't mean to be negative but with whitehead and macura gone things are starting to look bleak.

"The recruiting battle for five-star guard Isaiah Whitehead is over for the Gophers, but they still have a shot at landing their first 2014 prospect with forward Josh Martin and point guard Riley LaChance visiting this week."

I don't understand why they have to write a sentence like that. He's probably not going to commit to MN, but how about waiting until he actually decides.

The players to keep an eye on that we still have a realistic shot at are Tum Tum, LaChance, Martin, Travis, and Vaughn. Maybe Josh Cunningham as well. Still too early to panic.

Add Shayok, Yarborough, Morris, Colson, Gueye, and Harris. All names have come up and there has been reports within the last month that they've been in contact with the Gophers. Just as LaChance and Martin were seldom mentions a couple weeks ago, I see a few from this group gaining stronger attention if we don't get everyone in the quoted list.

The truth is Pitino is a ball of energy on the recruiting front and while we might not get 4 5-star recruits, he's looking like he is going to do a heckuva lot better than his predecessor. He has one year of head coaching under his belt and it was at FIU. The fact that he can get so many top guys to consider Minnesota is an accomplishment in itself. We will probably get some 4-star recruits who can start freshman year. He also seems to be making the current players work for him and he is doing a great job reaching out to the fan base. Quit worrying. He is way ahead of where we expected him to be and we may even get a 5 star recruit...which would be amazing.

Why is there so little conversation going on about Riley Lachance on here? The dude is looking like a future Gopher... Everyone compares him to Hulls and I for one would love that at Minnesota!

Completely agree. Cancelled his Baylor visit to come see Minnesota, has some big time offers and is just starting to blow up, could also persuade Martin to commit if they enjoy the visit together. Overall seems like a good fit for the system and the type of player that other teams could get torched by. Would love to see him in maroon and gold

Really liking our chances with Josh Martin. Hope he commits before his visit to Pitt. Here's a Tweet and a quote from a new article:

"The meeting with the Minnesota coaches went really really really well," said Martin. "I enjoyed my time with them and they said a lot of really nice things that I appreciated. It actually went a whole lot better than I thought it would because I've only texted with Pitino, I haven't talked with him and I've only spoken with McHale a couple times so it went really well."

Three really's!?!? Has to be a good sign!

I really really really hope Josh Martin is a Gopher!

LaChance and Martin would be great "gets". I do like Tum Tum's quickness and handle, which would be great in Richard's system (or at least what I anticipate his system to be). However, I would be equally happy with LaChance in maroon and gold.

Both of them is still a possibility. Pitino has mentioned playing multiple point guards at once, and I think they'd be a good fit together and compliment each other's games well.

I'd have to think getting Tum Tum and LaChance would be unlikely, as much as I'd like it. I think they could play together, but don't think they will.

Isn't LaChance capable of playing the 2? He's listed as a shooting guard on Scout and 247. How great would it be to have 2 guards that can handle the ball well?

It would be awesome. For whatever reason I just don't see it happening.
