CBS: Quentin Snider's recruitment could be ending soon

“Whenever he feels ready,” Scott Snider said Tuesday afternoon. “We don't want to drag it out until the spring. It's already been hectic. When he feels he's found the right spot, we're fine with whenever he decides to do that.”

If the decision does come soon, most signs are pointing to UCLA or Illinois as the likely destination.

Illinois??? Really??

When will we get our first 2014 commitment? Any chance we strike out in the early signing period?

Illinois??? Really??

Just within the last week or two, Illinois landed Leron Black, one of Andre Hollins' high school teammates and a 5-star PF on Rivals. Pretty sure they're in on some other high-end recruits as well, might still have a shot at Cliff Alexander, but I don't remember.

Tum Tum will likely commit before the end of the month, could be to us. Whitehead will probably commit by the end of November, maybe earlier. Those are two to keep an eye on right now.

I wish we had more info on the 3 "other" 4-star PFs we are recruiting, Paul White, Josh Martin, and Bonzie Colson. Do we have any idea of when they'll make up their minds?

I think the last that I read on Colson indicated he was down to nine schools (we were on that list), had 3 favorites (not on that list), and he was going to make up his mind after taking 5 visits. We were mentioned as one of the most aggressive in trying to get one of the remaining two visits.

Josh Martin in a Q&A with Amelia a few weeks ago:

Do you have a timeline of when you want to make a final decision? I don’t have a timeline. I’d really like to make my decision before the season, but if that doesn’t happen, I’m not in a spot where I’m going to dwell on it. I’m not going to make a decision blindly and then change it later. I want to be able to make my decision and stick with it.

Could you make a decision on the spot? I would see myself going to each visit and then after that last visit, evaluating which school was the best for me.

As of now his last visit is Sep. 27 to Pitt.

Not sure on the timelines for the other two. It could be a while for all of them.

McLaughlin commited to USC, how does that change the dynamics around the PG position, it always looked like he would be a Kansas commit, does Kansas take a closer look at Tum Tum.

I think (hope) it's too late for them. I'm not sure Kansas NEEDS a PG in this class.

? California kid - I think the question has been more USC or UCLA for a quite a long while. Probably doesn't change much of anything relative to Minnesota's interests in the 2014 class.

Right. Don't think he was following that recruitment at all.

Quentin Snider decides tonight between UCLA and Illinois. Let's hope he stays out of the big ten.

Jeff Goodman (@GoodmanESPN) tweeted at 2:27 PM on Thu, Sep 12, 2013:Quentin Snider is expected to announce he is choosing Illinois over UCLA tonight, sources told ESPN.

Jeff Goodman tweets - grrrr:

Michigan State conceding Tyler Ulis to UK, moving to backup plan. "Tum Tum" Nairn will visit East Lansing this weekend, source told ESPN.

Michigan State and Izzo selling Nairn the chance to come right in and have the ball from Day 1.

Go Gophers!!

So this means Tyus is down to Duke, Baylor, Kansas, and Minnesota.

Just inferring here, but Tum Tum seems far from a Minnesota lean.

Hate to say it, but Tyus may be more likely than Tum Tum at this point. Pitino may not be getting a PG in this class.

Not looking good. Tum Tum to MSU, Snider to ILL, Tyus to Kansas. Josh Gray or Keith Pickney for us??

Everybody calm down. All that we know right now is that he's going to visit MSU, it in no way means he's going there. I personally can't blame the kid for taking an official to check it out. Is it more competition? Absolutely. Could he end up at MSU? Sure. Does it mean that we are essentially eliminated? Not at all. Take a deep breath and let it play out.

As absolute needs in this class, I see PF and C. I hate to start a frosh at PG, but McNeil will be a JR. and I'm higher on him than most. Starting a frosh C in the B1G very rarely works. PF needs no explanation, but I still think the neighborhood kid will make us proud. To me the silver lining is I believe we will end up with more that 4 tenders when all is said and done.

Sh1t, pretty soon Pitino will be having open tryouts for recruits... any of you G-Holers think you're B1G material?

Pretty sure I'd still have a year of eligibility... if Pitino wants a soft, flabby, 6' nothin 3 pt specialist, I'm his guy.

I'm 6'6 but have never played a minute of organized basketball in my life. I can't shoot a basketball to save my life.

So I'm basically Oto.

Haha, every time someone brings up Oto I think of Pitino's quote about him.

"I asked Oto if people call him Oto-matic, and he said "yeah". Then I looked at his stats and realized he made two 3's all year."

So if you're striving to be Oto, all you have to do is go 2-26 from 3.

Per his 247sports player page, the Gophers have offered 4-star SG Riley LaChance today. Could be coincidence, but I wonder if this is a sign that Macura did indeed turn them down. It could also be a reaction to Tum Tum visiting MSU. I don't know a whole lot about LaChance, whether he's more of a PG or someone who plays off the ball.
