Aside from Indiana is there another coaching job more attractive than Gophers?

The state of Indiana loves basketball. I find it to be different than Nebraska football, which arguably defied the odds by becoming a power in the first place.

Marcus: Sources said it's possible Pitino will interview for the New Mexico coaching opening this weekend.

He was 18-36 in the Big 12 at Texas Tech. He was going to get fired before much longer.

Marcus: Sources said it's possible Pitino will interview for the New Mexico coaching opening this weekend.

I think he's saying it shows the next coach that if he fails at Minnesota, he might land on his feet. However, he's failing to take into account the fact that the next coach won't be Rick Pitino's son.

Yeah, I forgot that Tubby "left" Kentucky before he got fired there. I guess this type of thing is less unprecedented than I thought. I find it amazing how downward Tubby Smith's career has curved. People were thrilled beyond belief when Minnesota hired him. Now, he's coaching at High Point...

Marcus: Sources said it's possible Pitino will interview for the New Mexico coaching opening this weekend.

The season ended 3 days ago. If he was going to get fired after this year, I think it would have already happened. I guess Pitino might figure he'll probably get fired after next year, though.

Miles was 52-76 in the Big Ten. Pitino is 54-96. Neither has been good, but Pitino has been worse. Pitino has got to be near the top of the all time list for conference games below .500 for a BIG coach. Bad coaches usually get fired long before they can get to be more than 40 conference games...

Scoggins talks to four coaches anonymously about the Gophers job

Pitino has been here way too long. I still don't understand why he wasn't fired five years ago. And I have a bad feeling he'll be back next year.

The Worst College Football Firings Since 2000 (Glen Mason, Minnesota)

Definitely wouldn’t have expected that. The main problem is that our bowl appearances are for the most part in toilet bowls. 2019 was the first season since 1973 that we’ve lost less than 3 conference games.

The Worst College Football Firings Since 2000 (Glen Mason, Minnesota)

Gary Patterson would have been a monster hire. Most people forget about how putrid TCU was for the last 30 years of the SWC. What he’s done there has been exceptional.

All Things P.J. Fleck Rumor Mill Thread - Listed as Candidate for Other Jobs

They seriously had Bobby Bowden at 50/1 odds? He was ridiculously old when he retired after the 2010 season. He’s a decade older now. He’s gotten so senile that he did a U (for U of Miami) symbol. And they didn’t even have odds on Norvell, the guy they ended up selecting? Bizarre.

ESPN: How each Top 25 college football team wins next season's national title

Holy cow. I had no idea about that. That's awful. But, with that being said, Iowa State was only playing 7 conference games when they went 5-2 and Vandy was only playing 6 conference games when they went 4-2. Minnesota has been playing at least 8 conference games every season.

ESPN: How each Top 25 college football team wins next season's national title

I think it’s in part because MN football was in a trough from 1969 until just last year. For God’s sake, coming into 2019, we hadn’t lost less than 3 conference games since 1973. I don’t know how many other FBS teams held that distinction. Vanderbilt, probably. But who else? There’s a...

ESPN: Bo Pelini returning to LSU as defensive coordinator

Sometimes, fired coaches will voluntarily choose to stay unemployed and enjoy their buyout. However, if they’re taking a new job, they’ll always select a Power 5 job or even a Group of 5 job over an FCS job. They want to take the most prestigious job available. It’s not just because of the...

ESPN: Bo Pelini returning to LSU as defensive coordinator

Seriously? He would have been fired as head coach at YSU after 2019, and possibly even after 2018, if Tressel wasn’t resisting to firing a guy who he hired. He had an 18-22 record in MVC play. A guy who did badly as an FCS head coach is not going to get a Power 5 head coaching job.

Official 2021 Gophers Football Recruiting Updates Thread: Links, Tweets, Videos etc

Nebraska's recruiting rankings are actually pretty bad for a school with as much football tradition as they have. They're considered to be one of the 8 historical powers of CFB. Their talent composite is 24, and Scott Frost isn't doing anything to improve that ranking.

Official 2021 Gophers Football Recruiting Updates Thread: Links, Tweets, Videos etc

Next year will be the first year when the roster will be entirely Fleck recruits. The talent composite was 63 in his first year in 2017. In 2019, it was 46th. It'll be higher next year since this class is looking pretty good. If he has a few more successful seasons, maybe he can get the...

A so far. Although obviously it remains to be seen what he can maintain.

Hole Poll: What grade would you give the Gophers non-conference portion of the season?

I graded it as D. It was looking like an F early on.
