All Things 2024 Minnesota Vikings Off-Season Thread

I'm with you on WR. If the Vikings could trade JJ and get to 4 or higher, plus accumulate additional picks while keeping #11, I would do that in a heartbeat.

As far as giving up future picks to move up and get a QB, I don't have a problem with that either. NFL rosters may be built mostly through the draft, but that doesn't matter if you don't have a QB. And the only way to get an elite one is through the draft.

The last 3 QB drafts have been mostly terrible. This one has the potential to be very good, with multiple franchise QB's possible. If the Vikings identify one they love, you go up and get him no matter the cost.
As long as you hit, trading for someone like Allen, Rodgers, or Mahomes is worth 4 or 5 1st Round picks. Maybe more.

If we're trading a WR to move up, I'd rather trade Addison and a future 1st than JJ + no future 1sts.

That would defeat the main purpose of trading JJ, which is to avoid paying a WR 30+ million per year.

Depends on your take of JJ vs Addison. I'm in the trade JJ camp. But if you truly believe JJ is levels above Addison, you may want to trade Addison to trade up.

I dont think any WR not named Randy Moss is worth $30 million plus.

You guys, the NFL salary cap literally increased by $30 million this year. That's adding a free JJ from one year to the next.

I think it'll be ok.

Sounds like you can scratch Nix off of the Vikings list, which I don’t think anyone will have an issue with here.

That is interesting. There is nothing NFL front offices love more than trying to out-smart the other teams. I'm surprised they didn't at least send McCown out there to make it seem like they are interested in taking a round-2 QB. I would say this makes it crystal clear they are all-in on selecting one in round-1. This is 100% the way to go, but they have the QB needy Broncos right behind them at 12. I'm really surprised they're not trying to throw off the scent a little, unless they really think they are going to move up, rendering it moot.

Exactly. Plus, JJ+ Young QB = Cost of Kirk Cousins. Would you rather have a rookie/young QB and JJ OR Cousins? I know which one I'm picking.

Im surprised Nix (Or Oregon) decided to have the workout right next to FA starting

Except that at every other position, the cost of signing talent goes up as well, particularly at positions that are harder to fill. WR is one of the easier positions to backfill talent. I can't imagine paying a receiver $30 million per year when the team was barely willing to pay a QB that amount.

Addison is under contract for 3 more years and, I assume a 5th year team option. I believe JJ can walk next year. Do you go into the season without JJ extended?

For those of you who watch the draft and roster construction more than me, would agree with position needs as QB, DT, CB, OL, Safety?

I think Addison made Kenny Pickett, and now Caleb Williams a lot of money.

The interesting thing regarding JJ, is that since Tee Higgins formally requested a trade after the Bengals tagged him, how does that affect the JJ market?

How many teams are out there that would/can pay the freight for them at those dollars? Higgins was tagged for $21.8M, so JJ for @$35M+ a year isn’t insane, compared to the market.

JJ turned down $30M a year per Scheffler before the season started.

His quote is, “I wanna break the bank with an organization that wants me.”

Maybe 🤔I’m not as needy as I imagined.

No. Extend JJ. Which they will. By 2026 they won't really be able to afford them both.

I'll say it again, it bears repeating; the Vikings went 3-0 last season with Kirk and no JJ; they went 1-4 I believe with no Kirk and WITH JJ. Small sample size, for sure, but you don't build a franchise around a WR, whether it's 1994 or 2024.
