All Things 2022 Minnesota Vikings In-Season Thread

Outside of special teams, last night was a total system failure. From coaching adjustments, to play calling to effort (last drive of first half), etc. it was ugly. The score wasn't even close to how badly we got out played.

Let's hope we don't see a meltdown like last night again.

Skol Vikes!!

defense was so slow.
The defense will take a while to recover after the state that Spielman/Zimmer put it in. Zim was all about "his" guys, hanging onto vets too long, and now they're old, slow, and overpaid. Whatever skill Spielman had at drafting really dried up in the past number of years, so there is little good, young talent. Hopefully the Cine kid is legit, although with Harry's contract, we're stuck with him for another few years. Thanks for that one, Spielman.

The new regime had to infill with cheap journeyman vets. IF the new regime can draft well, and IF they can scheme correctly (as in not playing shell coverage all night when it obviously wasn't working) it will take some time to dig out of this hole.

they wanted to run the clock out from the 4 yard line. We wouldn't allow it.

LMAO
I was watching on delay via DVR and speeding in between plays. I didn't realize the Vikings called Time Out after the Eagles ran a play toward the end of the 1st half.

Wow, that was stupid. Could have got off the field only down 2 scores and getting the opening kick in the 2nd half.

Oops.

OK, but … Eagles didn’t do much in the 2nd half.

If our offense isn’t abysmal, it’s a game.

The Eagles were still picking up chunk yards in the second half. They went 52 yards and had a FG blocked with their first drive. Another 32 yards on their second drive. It was the fourth before they got the ball back. Had they been more aggressive....they certainly could have scored more points. But it was increasingly obvious that the Vikings weren't going to score and catch up.

All the same:
- Irv catches it and scores a TD
- Boyd doesn't get run down by the holder, scores a TD
- Hicks finds a way into the endzone himself, scores a TD

28-24

Now, before you start screaming, yes, I know that's not really true. Any one of those could've and probably would've prompted the Eagles offense to "start trying harder" again. I don't necessarily agree that they weren't trying at all in the 2nd half. We did a much, much better job. But you never know how it would've really worked out had we scored.

Thousands of things could go differently in every game. All I know when watching that game is that the Eagles were moving the ball more effectively ALL game. That includes the second half right up until they started playing more prevent in the fourth. The fact that we had two turnovers that put the Vikings at their 30 and once inside the ten....both ending in a failure to score a TD says it all. Eagles weren't in that situation where they needed to score. We were.

All that said.....this is no time for a kneejerk reaction. Still only the second game of the year. If we played the Eagles again this year.....I don't think the game would look anything like that. It comes down to the fact that the Eagles had an excellent gameplan coming into the game and the Vikings DID NOT. They dared Hurts to throw easy intermediate passes....and he ate it up all game. Didn't seem like the coaches had a contingency plan. Same goes for on offense. Little creativity on that side of the ball. Don't think I've seen a team run more failed screen passes ever in a single game.

I said the same thing to my wife when we were at the Vikings/Packers game. How is #84 not retired? That's insane. I like Irv Smith Jr, other than that drop, but he should not be #84.
They don't retire numbers anymore. I believe most teams don't.

This board thought I was crazy when I said the Vikings would be 7-10.

I was wrong. They'll be 5-12. Maybe worse.

It’s too early to conclude that IMO but right now this is a bad team all around. Bad execution and bad coaching.

And they still might win this game.

The Vikings secondary looking like MSU out there, yikes!

The game plan on defense has been piss poor for two weeks in a row.

This team sucks. Donatell is a schidty coordinator, and the players on defense are old and bad.

We kept Thielen in to block on that last sack? Not impressed with the coaching staff at all so far.

Campbell should have gone for the 1st down instead of kicking the 54 yard field goal. The Vikings were saved be bad decision-making.

Still, let's take the win and hope this defense finds a way to improve.

I thought coaching decisions were brutal for both teams.

Detroit blew it up 10 with 3rd and 1. they throw a deep sideline route. Just run it for the one yard gain. If you get stopped, they run another 45 seconds off the clock. If you throw it, run a short route. I couldn't believe they went for the long field goal.

I couldn't believe we went for the second long field goal either. We wasted our first time out of the second half, too.

Two shitty teams fighting to the end.

Also, Jefferson has been one on one a ton these past two games and we can't do a thing with that.

Call me stunned on this.
