Tyus Jones to Duke.

per ESPN:

The ongoing rumor that Duke is the leader for the recruiting package of No. 1-ranked senior Jahlil Okafor and No. 3-ranked Tyus Jones is ruining the recruiting process for the two players, Okafor's father said on Friday.

"It's disappointing. It's taking the fun out of the process for the two boys," Okafor's father, Chukwudi Okafor, said by phone on Friday. "That's a shame. Let the kids go through the process. I just want them to enjoy it, not the media, not Twitter, not the coaches, not the AAU coaches. Those kids are highly intelligent. They know what to do. Let it play out, and I think the world is in for something special."

"They're going to make their decision. Everybody is saying they say this and they say that. It's not fair to them. It's not fair to the other schools. It's not fair to Duke. They might want to go to Duke, but decide not to go there because everyone is saying that's where they're going. I'd hate for that to happen."

Go Gophers!!

Unless they're going to be the next Beatles, the world is most certainly not in for something special. Sheesh.

Go Gophers!!

Are you kidding me.

If put in its proper perspective and if the whole article is read, I am not really sure what is wrong with what is said in this article. Dad wants son to enjoy the process and make a decision without interference. What dad wouldn't want that?

It is great to feel wanted and I get that but is it all that fun to be hounded night and day by the college recruiters? I have had a good relationship with several high schoolers who have been recruited and they thought the recruiting process was a pain. The visits were great but all the calls and letters to places they would never think of going to was crazy. It sounds like this dad wants his kid to have his Lebron James Decision moment.

True, what dad wouldn't want his son to enjoy the process, but every recruit out there has a 'lean' or some school they're favoring. Why would or should the coverage of these two be any different?

As Mitch McGary once said. All Duke big men do is set screens and rebound.

I could see Okafor taking this into consideration. The last two top Kentucky big men have ended up as the top prospect in the draft. Noel dropped because of injury.

Breaking news: the Jones-Okafor package deal will play for every team in the world!

I'm not sure which of these kids is "Prima" and which is "Donna". Enough with the charades already...and "shock the world"? Really? I think I'm going to hurl...

Not sure where to start the blame but this whole recruiting hoopla is beyond obnoxious.

Do you really pick a school because the coach(s) were at more of your games?

Just another extension of our cultures focus on celebrity as a status symbol, a coach showing the love is just a way to enhance their celebrity, even if only to the recruit.

Yawn.

This probably takes Kansas out of the running for Tum Tum though, which is good!

By Unofficial visit, he means he's stopping by to tell Pitino he's not going here.

If Tyus goes anywhere other than Duke, I pledge to never again (publicly) take cheap shots at Duke, Coach Alphabet, and Dukie V.

So you're telling me he's going to Duke....

Yes.

That way it's a win-win for me. If he goes to Duke, then I can continue to lob occasional barbs in D(P)uke's direction, though I'll spare Tyus 'cause he seems like a good kid. If Tyus goes anywhere else, I'll hold him in the highest esteem because he will have thumbed his nose at K, Dukie V, and the Richy Rich Cameron D-Bags.

You never know.. he could wind up at the U. (of Minnesota)

Agreed. I don't think it is likely by any means, but I think it is more likely than many believe.

As much as they say it will happen, package deals fall through 98% of the time. It seems Tyus loves being by his family and playing at MN could be his last chance to play close to home.

Still think it is Duke, but I wouldn't put MN chance at zero.

Minnesota is at 0 unless someone in Tyus Jones family falls ill or something like that (obviously no one hopes this happens)... When his mother tweets pictures of Tyus & Jahlil together and says things like "future teammates" and Jahlil doesnt have us one his list, the chance of Tyus playing for us (baring something traumatic) is 0.

Remember when Whitehead and Newton was a package deal? Or Vaughn and Perkins? Or the countless others that tried to latch on with Tyus and Okafor?

I agree Tyus/Jahlil package seems more likely than most, but I wouldn't be shocked at all if it fell through. Ultimately they both have to make the best college decisions for themselves and I'm sure they both realize that.

Haven't tyus and Okafor said they would have a joint press conference to announce where they are going? And do you really think its a coincidence that duke just happens to be the last school Tyus is visiting? Tyus is not coming here unless something very dramatic happens, pitino knows this, why else do you think he is telling other PG's they're his number 1 PG target. My guess is he just threw out the "Unofficial to MN today" so that the hometown fans leave him alone, the kid and the people around him are very smart, they want to keep the hometown happy as long as possible.

Out of curiosity, why do you despise Duke so much? (other than Vitale and the fans)

Yes.

Stop. Comparing Whitehead/Newton & Vaughn/Perkins package deals to Tyus/Jahlil is actually laughable... They've been best friends for years and have said dozens of times to dozens of analysts and media members that they are playing together. They are literally best friends, they talk every day, their families are close, and they make every effort to hangout when they can. Those other package deals were spurt of the moment babbling by kids that had just recently met each other. The odds of their deal falling through are about the same as the odds of Tyus coming to Minnesota (again, baring some family problem etc...).

Not trying to be a jerk, but seriously?
