Since when is a starter, who said he expects everyone on the team back btw, considered a reserve?
Huh?

Just rumors though, so don't kill the messenger if I end up being incorrect.
Sounds about right. Wish I knew what Tubby's thoughts on Lockett are. Wonder they even talked?

"...usually through attrition, usually through something, somebody decides that this is it..." sounds a little bit different than last week's "we expect that everyone in our program this year to be back next year", but it's Tubby talking so who knows. Probably just words being said.
Things will work out fine.
What did you expect Tubby to say when the team was still playing ?
Academic Scholarship should be possible for Lockett, but IDK how that would work for grad school.I seem to remember a couple of years ago something about Hoffarber possibly receiving an academic scholarship to free up a spot. Is that correct? If so is that an option? OR is there any player on the team who's family is wealthy enough to logically look at the situation and be a team player for a season? All long shots, I know, but I was just wondering about these options as well...
This may be a little off-the-wall, but:
Chip was an all-state FB player in HS. Maybe the Gophs could move his scholarship to a FB scholarship, and he could (try to) play both sports? I realize this may be far-fetched, but then you avoid the "running a guy off" claim.
And, with all due respect to Chip, I wonder if he might be a better FB player? He's obviously a good athlete, but not a polished basketball player, and I don't know if he will ever be anything other than a 6th-man type at the D1 level.

I really dislike this time of year for this kind of crap. We have to get away from the idea that signing to play basketball here isn't a long term commitment. Everyone said it was no big deal when Cobb left...looked how that turned out. Tubby's system aint easy to play in and FR rarely do well...especially young guards.
This is probably for the better for both parties.
+1. Chip has a scorer's mentality and solid upside. I could see him stepping up and being a dangerous threat off the bench. I definitely don't want to lose someone like him after 2 years.
A player like Chip that shoots a lot will be more effective if he finds a place where he can start. Sitting for major minutes to start a game often doesn't work well for players that like to take a lot of shots.
His shot and shooting percentage were major problems. He was an exciting player to watch however. But six foot shooting guards who aren't good shooters are a dime a dozen.
Important to remember that Chip was only a sophomore. Lots of room for growth these next couple years. I for one will miss him and his potential a lot.
Define "many" I remember him being our best player in a handful of games. We've come a long way in a short time when we can let an athletic underclassman, who's been our best player in many games this year go & no one really cares. That speak to our talent level. It's the way college basketball works, we're stacked at SG, we need a schollie, w/ Trevor back we could be special, etc. Just saying, it's not as if Chip is without talent. He's the kind of kid who's still raw, needs lot of coaching, but who could have developed into a solid upperclassman imo. Good luck to him & let's do some damage next year with Trevor back.
