Brandon Johnson looks very similar to pre-injury Curry but a little better. Similar size, good but not great athlete or leaper, solid finisher, can occasionally knock down that 3 or midrange jumper but not really a stretch 4.

He is definitely my #1 now. I would expect Markusson to have the exact same impact that Matz had which is a very solid backup center but not quite a starter and would be an ok consolation for Johnson and insurance for Liam.

I think you've got Peterson mixed with Markusson from LMU. That's Markkuson final 3 you have listed. But point is still legit. Peterson will have a crop like that too I would think.

Gophers have a top 20 pick and another guy who declared for the NBA...must have been a good season, right? Would have made a big run in the tournament if it wasn't canceled, right?

I'm guessing poor coaching or a major lack of depth was why Rice was so bad.

Grad transfer from Western Michigan. The last person the U of M got from there turned out to be alright.

“I knew guys who went to Illinois, so I pretty much idolized the Big Ten,” Johnson said in a phone interview. “Now that I have a chance to showcase my talent to the best of my ability and play in the Big Ten, I’m just excited.”

The transfer portal grew to more than 600 players this week, giving rebuilding teams like the Gophers options. Pitino needed someone versatile offensively with the physical toughness to play in the grind-it-out style of the Big Ten. Johnson believes he definitely fits that mold.

“Making this decision was tough, because every team on my list was I felt like a great fit for me,” Johnson said. “It just felt like Minnesota was the best fit out of everybody.

“[Pitino] told me, he basically doesn’t want my game to change. Everything that I did last year, he wants to build on that.”

Johnson, who also considered Dayton and Connecticut, saw his production skyrocket at the end of the season. In his last 11 games at Western Michigan, he averaged 17 points, 8.1 rebounds, 1.2 blocks and shot 79% from the foul line (50-for-63) and 60% from three-point range (9-for-15). He had four 20-point games and three double-doubles during that stretch, including a career-high 29 points vs. Ball State.

“I feel like I’m a good two-way player,” Johnson said. “Regardless if I’m scoring or if my shot is falling one night, I can still impact the game enough in order for my team to get a win.”

While there is a lot to like about Williams, he needs to make major improvement in both shooting and finishing. He struggled at both. You can’t have a 6’5” guy on the floor who struggles to score.

Both rooted in decision making. He often made poor decisions with the ball, resulting in bad shots from the perimeter and taking it to the hole. That can be improved with experience. I think he has a good future.

I think he is a little nonchalant with his passing and ball handling too, but this past year he was very weak at finishing. That said I still like his potential especially his defense.
 

I'm interested in this Justin Kier from George Mason. Really good FG, 3 PT, and FT %. Looks like he can really shoot the ball. Grad Transfer. Real early in the process but he would get minutes.
6'4. Looks like he could play the 2/3.
 

Guessing at this point we'd rather have Peterson since he has more eligibility (and assuming all transfers are granted immediate eligibility). But Kier looks like a solid consolation.

Man, it's amazing how many dominos have to fall for some of these guys to finally make a decision. I can imagine this conversation between Pitino and Kier: "We are hoping for Kerwin Walton. If we don't get him, our backup plan is Drew Peterson. Only problem is we won't know on Kerwin for a couple weeks because that's when Cole Anthony will let Roy Williams know if he's going pro or not. So, once we know that, we'll know if he's an option for us. If Peterson has decided he wants to come here, he'll get the spot. But if he doesn't want to wait for Kerwin to decide and goes somewhere else and Cole goes pro so Kerwin goes to North Carolina, then you're our guy!"

I'm looking forward to all of this being finished up. Be nice to have the team finalized and talking more about next year. Already have a decent squad as it is right now.

I think you nailed it.

Amazing how much complexity there is to it and how “out of our hands” the stuff actually falls.

Damn yeah top 15 makes it feel like there's hardly a chance...but there is a chance

Hypothetically I think I'd still wanna see Walton over Carton. That hometown Minnesota feel just takes me over.
