Star Tribune story with little detail at best about allegations of U football players

There isn't much substance to the story. Hardly seems to justify front page coverage and a sensational headline. Makes the StarTribune look like a gossip rag with an axe to grind. And if you are going to raise questions about the football program under Kill's watch, why shouldn't you mention some of the positives, such as increased graduation rates, that suggest Kill is in fact running a positive program.

Who the eff would want to read that fluff? That stuff makes people fall asleep. Need more hard hitting coverage to compete with the Daily Bugle!

...and yet the paper continues to fellate the Vikings who continue to employ a certain RB would thinks genital mutilation of minors is an acceptable form of discipline. I know some of you like to call it the Red Star - I think we could just as easily call it the Purple Star.

Better yet is the response from the Strib Sports Desk Editor Ken Chia who tweets "Fu¢k the haterz". That is pure professionalism right there. Side note, the Strib Sports Desk Editor is a UW grad per his Twitter account. That explains something

Who knew what, and when?

Isn't that answered in the email? The EEOC knew of several incidents, and reported concerns to the Athletic Department on July 15.

This is sad reporting. An unethical amount of conjecture based on 1 FIOA email they obtained.

Isn't that like, you know, the stuff journalists are supposed to find out before writing the story?

It would be interesting to hear GopherLady's view on this whole thing since she has worked with these people. Any insight on how something like this would even be allowed to be posted

Quick, someone illuminate the Bill Self light.

Holy hell. These are Trib editors writing this crap? How AWESOME would it be to see the U take the Trib's media credentials away at all future Gopher events?

The more I think about this, the more it pisses me off. It is pretty obvious by this tweet that he doesn't care for Kill. That alone is fine but to put it out there like this right after this slanted story was put out there says a lot about him.

Maybe I'm looking at this too much through my maroon and gold glasses, but I think this is completely unprofessional.

Totally agree GII. We really don't know a whole lot of information yet about what may or may not have happened. Doensn't seem the STrib does either based on what they have published. This guy seems like he really doesn't care for Kill based on the usage of "Can't 'Aw Shucks' your way out of this one" statement.

I just noticed that as well. Many people would get fired from their job for posting something like that. Lots of professionalism going on at the trib lately.

Did anyone hear Kill's radio show yesterday? Was he late for it?

I didn't hear it, but I had someone tell me the reason he was late was because one of the Strib's female reporters was waiting in the Sensor's parking lot and when Kill was walking in for his show, she started asking ambush-style questions on the sidewalk before he could make it in. My friend was walking in around the same time and she claims to have seen it. She said the reporter was not very professional and that Kill was openly ticked off. She told me that Kill was probably 15 minutes late for the radio program. Is that true?

If so, that takes some reporter 's nerve to stake out the parking lot, start throwing surprise questions at him with no warning, and then make him late for the radio on top of it all.

Anyone else go to the show and see this or confirm??

He was definitely late. Grimm and Rosen were tapdancing at the start.

I swear that is a question that follows about a good chunk of their work. Short article... many questions raised, and as far as I can tell the writer didn't even call anyone to at least try to ask / learn more. Granted as a reporter they won't always find out but as far as I can tell there's not even the effort much of the time, nor does the writer have much of any understanding on the topic, subjects involved, etc. It's pretty disappointing much of the time.

Sometimes I wonder if most of them aren't interns just learning the job and someone has to tell them to ... try.

As others have said there are some good folks there who clearly know what they're doing.

Editor: "We have to appear to be objective. Go try to get a quote from Kill RIGHT before we post the article online!"

Looks like this one got taken down also. They do realize deleting them doesn't mean no one saw them, right ?

Seems to me you reading comprehension skills need improvement since you can take a simple question and think I was implying something?
You asked dumb question about as dumb as Mr. Anderson's tweet and this email. Maybe it wasn't your intent it accuse Jeff Jones, but I would say 99 percent of this board read it that way. Also considering the fact he technically wasn't team last year and Kill also addressed why he wasn't playing, it doesn't make sense.

I can't fault the Strib one bit here. They take allegations of sexual harassment and the like very seriously. Look at how viciously and relentlessly they went after the former A.D. after he allegedly harassed their basketball beat writer.

Agreed, +100. Compare the Strib's treatment of the Gophers vs the Vikings over a long period of time. Look at Scoggins' column history over the past year of shepherding the public back into embracing Adrian Peterson. I predicted the "seeking redemption" garbage from him about a month before it was printed. He would never prop up anything maroon like that.

It is not lost on me that the Strib did a LOT of propagandizing to grease the wheels on the REALLY BAD Vikings stadium deal, and they got a new building out of it.

No, no, no....it's much more important to reference sexual assault allegations from 2007 at the beginning of the previous coach's tenure involving the players from the previous previous coach's tenure while Jerry Kill was coaching Southern Illinois. Journalism 101.

+1000. Unprofessional at best. Slanderous and libelous to say the least.

I know. That got me pretty steamed as well. Such amateur hour crap from the Strib here. It is some truly ridiculous conjecture on their part.

It's still there. It looks like a few responses to his comment were deleted though.

This is why I appreciate posting on GH knowing that all posts are automatically deleted every 24-hours so I don’t have to worry about saying something today that I might regret tomorrow.

That's what SnapChat is for. Ha!

I hope we can all agree that this could (a big could) blow up to something unpleasant. If there is even a minor cover-up here, we're in for trouble. If there is no cover up here, this could piss off Kill enough to want to bolt for another program. I'm sure he's pretty fed up with this community, media, Teague, etc.

On the surface, it doesn't seem like much here. But, what if more is discovered about why the two women didn't opt to go forward with the charges? And what were those actions that lead to the complaints? Why would these girls file complaints and then not proceed?

I hope this is nothing and I sure hope our players didn't do something really ugly. It just hurts to go through this. Wish we could go 10 years without this kind of crap. Wondering, did we have any gross misconduct issues under Mason? Just don't recall.
