Something You Hate That Everyone Loves

My whole family loves games - board games, card games, trivia games - and it bores me silly. Every time we have a family gathering, it turns into game night, and everyone bugs me to participate.

My brother and sisters are part of a team that competes in a trivia league in LaCrosse, WI - and that winds up being the main topic of conversation at most family events.

"oh, the 3rd part of that last question was tricky....." on and on and on.

I spend most of the evening fighting the urge to start screaming "I don't give a flying f*ck" at the top of my lungs, but if I did that, then I would be the bad guy.

Other things I can't stand - most movie comedies. Adam Sandler, Jim Carrey, Will Ferrell - wouldn't go to one of their movies if you held a gun to my head.
Sandler and Carrey are really hard to take. I do like Farrell. Musicals, I do not like musicals. Tried, just don't have it in me.

Oh - can include this:

I do not drink coffee. sometimes I think I may be the only person in the world in this category, because most people seem to suck coffee down 24/7. Just doesn't do anything for me.

as an alternative, I walk over to the convenience store most mornings and get a cup of hot chocolate. even in the middle of summer - 90 degrees and humid - I have to have my hot chocolate. some might think of that as weird. to each their own.

I"m with you, SON. I almost named coffee as well. Never had so much as a cup. Mostly because I don't like uber hot anything. Tried some iced coffee at home for a short bit, but it turned out I was putting so much chocolate creamer in it that it was too many calories, waste of effort.

Diet Pepsi instead of hot chocolate for me, but I feel the same way about coffee.

As a kid of the '80s, I'm supposed to have a reverence for the original Ghostbusters, but I thought it was stupid and boring then and when I watched it a couple years back (around the time the reboot occurred), still thought it was stupid and boring. I am a big fan of Bill Murray and Harold Ramis, and enjoy Dan Aykroyd well enough, but have never understood this movie's allure, including the theme song.

The only thing I like about the movie is this-one time my cousin and I were trading stories about how our parents embarrassed us. For his 13th birthday, his parents threw him a party which included his Mom taking him and his friends to see Ghostbusters. During the scene where Sigourney Weaver is possessed and hovering in a seductive move over one of the ghostbusters (Murray?), my aunt, a recovering nun, decided the movie was headed down the path to Gommorah and escorted my cousin and all of his friends out of the packed theatre. It was a story not easily lived down by my him.

I can relate to your assessment on Ghostbusters, would likely be in full agreement if not for Rick Moranis. Just a huge fan of his in general, nothing beats SCTV in my opinion. I enjoyed his presence in the movie.

The Ray Parker, Jr song is kinda bad ass though, yes?

Another agreement. I never thought that movie was anywhere as good as people say.

and now, Dr. Tongue's 3D House of Beef.....

The NFL. I love college football, but pro football bores me to tears.
????? How?

Don’t tell me you actually enjoy that fake ass, “basketball on grass” crap, that teams don’t win championships with.

Some of you already touched on coffee.

The other for me is flip flops. Can't stand how they feel or sound. Give me a pair of athletics sandals (not the old man ones that people wear hiking) that just have one giant strap across the top of the foot.

I f**king hate flip flops.

Hate camping.

Love going to movies. It was also the best thing for my son and I to do together too. We watch at home, but the experience of going out to the theater is still way better.

I hate camping too. We used to camp all the time, but it sucked, so we built houses. Same with riding horses. F*ck horses. Riding horses sucks, that's why we invented cars.

With you on movies too. I spend a lot of time with my younger kids doing the club sports thing, so with my non-athlete, we go out for pizza, a movie & then a drive to talk about the movie on Friday nights. I also love to disappear sometimes & duck into a matinee by myself. About 5 years ago the Riverview theater would show a different John Wayne movie on Thursday afternoon. Watching El Dorado by yourself on an ice cold Thrs in January at 3pm is the best.

Going to movies alone rules, too.

100% agreement with you guys. I had one occasion where I had the entire theater to myself. It was a late showing on a Sunday night and there was a major snowstorm. I've had a few occasions when there has only been one other person as well.

Not sure if there’s any Mad Men fans here, but some of the scenes I enjoyed the most was when Don would leave the office mid-day and head to the movies, whether for inspiration or to escape-found myself more jealous of that than anything else in his life 🤣

I was the only person in the theater for a matinee of "Escape from New York." when I realized I was the only person there, I almost ran back to my car to grab another joint, but decided not to.

I am part of the hate coffee crowd as well. Only thing worse is root beer, for my palate.

I f**king hate flip flops.

I'm a heel walker. I bruise my heels in flip flops. I've also got Dankles (Dad ankles), bald from the crew length, sweat sock down. Plus you could catch champion muskies with my big toes. I avoid flip flops, and sandals in general.
