As a kid of the '80s, I'm supposed to have a reverence for the original Ghostbusters, but I thought it was stupid and boring then and when I watched it a couple years back (around the time the reboot occurred), still thought it was stupid and boring. I am a big fan of Bill Murray and Harold Ramis, and enjoy Dan Aykroyd well enough, but have never understood this movie's allure, including the theme song.
The only thing I like about the movie is this-one time my cousin and I were trading stories about how our parents embarrassed us. For his 13th birthday, his parents threw him a party which included his Mom taking him and his friends to see Ghostbusters. During the scene where Sigourney Weaver is possessed and hovering in a seductive move over one of the ghostbusters (Murray?), my aunt, a recovering nun, decided the movie was headed down the path to Gommorah and escorted my cousin and all of his friends out of the packed theatre. It was a story not easily lived down by my him.
