Quinn Carroll is a GOPHER!!!

Welcome home Quinn.
However playing time works out, his transfer here is a positive. OL depth, hometown kid, family ties plus he'll have great coaching to up his game. Will also add ballast to the BOAT. (meant that to be funny, not a statement on his ability)

I’d substitute Guedet for Shaw or maybe Boe it we’ll see. Agree with the rest.

There's no guarantee Rusch comes back, so we may end up with Shaw at LG, and Carroll replacing Andries at RG. I get the feeling you realllly don't want Guedet starting regardless?

Nearly positive Ruschmeyer has already announced he was coming back for a 6th year.

Yeah, I think Carroll could just as easily end up at guard as he can at tackle. We also played 8 OL last year quite a bit and we were healthy. This is a really good signing for the Gophers.

Great day today! Wouldn't doubt perhaps Carroll's girlfriend is coming home too, (no information on that) unless she is going for a degree that we don't have here.

Here's a pretty good blast from the past thread. Here's hopin' he can be a big contributor to us (pun intended), but I still don't like the way he left town.

Saint Thomas is a Catholic University.

I don't hate the idea of Guedet starting, if it comes to that I think he'd probably do alright.

But he is just the least proven of the potential starters. JMS is proven, Axel was a starter two years ago, Shaw was a two year starter and a quality one at that in the Mountain West and Ersery had a great game as a true freshman. Boe occasionally gets some meaningful snaps as well.

I don't think Guedet is awful or anything, but to me he is the biggest unknown which makes me a little uneasy, at least compared to the others and its always nice when you have some idea of how good the future starters are going to be.

Ryan Burns says that's still to be determined.
Interesting, was also under the impression that Ruschmeyer was coming back but Burns would likely know better. Hopefully he decides to play another year but assume if he is waffling it all it would be between playing another year or hanging up the pads because I doubt he has much pro potential right now. And a transfer would seem unlikely but I guess you never really know.

I too thought Axel Rusch had already announced he was coming back. Maybe the coaches have other plans? I have no idea.

We have the three BIG boys we signed in the 2020 class:

https://gophersports.com/sports/football/roster/martes-lewis/19518
https://gophersports.com/sports/football/roster/aireontae-ersery/19489
https://gophersports.com/sports/football/roster/tyrell-lawrence/19516

Along with Guedet, these guys have all been waiting patientially for their chance to earn playing time at tackle once Schlueter and Faalele moved on.

STrib today had Lewis listed as a guard possibility, and didn't list Lawrence at all. No idea how accurate those are.

They had Carroll and Guedet projected as tackle starters, and Axel Rusch and Boe projected as guard starters.

For what would be a sixth year for a player like Axel R, I imagine the decision might turn on where he stands after the spring. If he is a starter or part of a guaranteed rotation (and has NFL potential), he comes back. If because of transfers and young player development, he doesn’t have the same security, maybe he moves on with life. Why sit on the bench in your sixth year?

My prediction: for our 8 man rotation:

LT- Ersery: Played great in the Spring game (?) and coaches have been raving about him. He's likely our starting LT for the next 3 years.

LG- Ruschmeyer: If he comes back, which I believe he will.

C- Schmitz

RG- Carroll

RT- Guedet

* Quinn Carroll can also play RT

* Karter Shaw is a Guard who started 19 games at Utah St and could well find his way into the starting line-up. I believe (not 100%) he has also played Center? He saw limited snaps on offense this season.

* Nathan Boe, bypassed Shaw last year in camp, and saw a decent amount of game action in 2021, including one start. He took the back up snaps at Center, but also plays Guard.
