Other B1G Games Thread

Also, when there is a game with a 19 point deficit, why doesn't BTN switch to the new game rather than have us watch the teams sub in their scrubs to get their garbage time in?

Cerina of NW and Williams of OSU were fighting for rebound position. Got a little out of hand, they ended up out of bounds shoving each other. Cerina took a swipe at Williams. Refs got them separated, and as Cerina backed away from the situation, Ross of OSU walked up behind him and shoved him hard in the back. Took them awhile to get everyone separated and calmed down. Resulted in ejections for Cerina and Ross and a common foul on Williams. 4 free throws for OSU and 6 for NW.

Then later on, Cobb shoved Craft on a run out and was given a flagrant 1 for not making a play on the ball. Quite the clean game.

So will Ross or any other OSU player get suspended for one game? That would be fortunate timing. :)

Ross got ejected right? Considering it was just a shove and not a punch I think they'll consider that a good enough punishment and he won't miss our game.

Yes, the reports now are that Ross will not be suspended because he didn't throw a punch. One NW player threw a punch so he will be suspended for a game.

Question for you: Why does Matta have some of your starters in with under a minute to go in a game you're up by nearly 20 and 5 technicals, 2 ejections, and 1 flagrant foul has happened in the last few minutes?

Guys he trusted to not let things get more out of control maybe? NW was taking some cheap shots, including an intentional foul from an NW player shoving Craft in the back instead of trying to block a layup attempt on a fast break after the dust up.

I just heard on BTN that since Jan. 25 home teams are a stunning 19-22 in conference play. It is that fact on which I'm building my hopes for the OSU and Michigan games. In a year of "anything can happen" in the B1G I'm hoping that anything can indeed happen.

That just makes it all the more sad how 90% of Gopherholers give free passes for terrible performances on the road. If I have to hear "It's so hard to win on the road" again, I'm gonna lose it.

I'm not sure if everyone is giving terrible performances a free pass all the time. But statistically, this season is the anomaly, not the norm. In the three prior seasons in the BT, the road winning percentage was around 35%. Not sure how that compares to other conferences, but going by that number, I'd say it is tough to win on the road in the conference.

Big win for Wisconsin today. Iowa kinda crapped it away at the end. WI is rolling again, unfortunately.

Not Big Ten, but the dookies get the home cooking again and get the win over Syracuse. Jimmy was an idiot for his reaction, but that was a horrible call. That was a block.

Michigan pulling away from the Spartans. Up by a dozen with 7 minutes left.

Nebraska has some talent. Petteway is Vincent Grier with a 3pt shot - great player and a nice supporting cast with Pitchford and Shields - the rest of the guys play their roles and good defense. This might be the 4th best team in the Big 10 right now.

Nebraska

One thing I noticed about the quotes from the Ohio State players after the Gopher game.
Ross knew this was a tipping point for the team.
"Every game here on out is a desperation game for us," he said.
"It's a desperation game from here on out," Thompson said. "Every game we play is desperation. Every game is a must-win situation. When you play like you have to win, when you play like there's no tomorrow, good things can happen."

Wisconsin with 5 straight wins. 3 of them against top 15 opponents. 2 of the wins on the road.

Guess you could say I'm disappointed the way the Gophers are headed in the wrong direction.....again.

Freakin' Nebraska now 8-2 in their last 10 B1G games. C'mon man, that can't be correct.

With all due respect to what Nebraska has accomplished this year, they have a fairly favorable Big Ten schedule this year, with their one-plays being us, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Michigan State.

I think I posted a couple weeks ago that the Gophs needed to start playing with some desperation. Even the good teams are adopting that attitude, because that's what you need this time of year. I would love to see the Gophers go balls to the wall instead of this afraid of success / afraid to lose / generally afraid approach. How do you cultivate mental strength?

I really wish people would get off this complete fallacy. The B1G is not limited to 6 teams. I hope Nebraska makes it. There are plenty of other undeserving teams whose spot the Gophers can take.

And with us being a home game for them. That is pretty amazing.

Divisions anyone?

Mich @ Purdue

So far - Purdue 24 - Mich 8 .. Early but still ....

So if Michigan gets blown out, this road game on Saturday just got much tougher.
