Other B1G Games Thread

Nebraska is 6-6. With that schedule they reach 9-9 easily.

We beat NE in football and they beat us in basketball. Who'd of thunk.

Was thinking the same exact thing. I'd have called you crazy if you said that this summer!

Dumb time out by Izzo when they had cut it to 2, crowd going nuts & had all the momentum. He calls TO, Sparty has an awful possession, and Nebraska immediately regains control of the game.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Scratching my head about why on earth he'd do that, and the only thing I could come up with is that with Appling out, he simply didn't trust his PG and was overcoaching.

Another feather in Miles'cap. With NDSU, he won at both Madison and Marquette. Big Ten is absolutely loaded with awesome coaching.

Yes, I think the roster of coaches in this conference is as good or maybe better than it's ever been. There's a fair chance that Tom Crean, Matt Painter and John Groce will be 3 of the 4 cellar dwellars in the B1G this year. Practically every coach in the conference is either an established power coach or thought of as a "rising star." No weak links other than maybe PSU.

So happy for Tim Miles! Everyone here thought Nebraska would be a bottom 2 team this year, and Nebrasketball is proving them wrong!

Is Pat Chambers really even a bad coach though? Or is Penn State just a really difficult place to win at? I'm not sure I've ever seen Pat Chambers bashed for making bonehead coaching decisions, certainly not as much as someone like Crean is, but then I don't think I've seen him lauded as being an exceptional coach or recruiter either. I just have to wonder if someone like Tim Miles or John Groce would be doing much better at Penn State.

Basically Penn State hasn't been good, but how much of that is due to Pat Chambers' coaching ability, and how much of it is just Penn State?

He's got his team at .500 in the B1G. In LINCOLN NEBRASKA! Of course he would be doing better.

Not necessarily, but Chambers might be the next casualty of the "somebody has to be at the bottom" syndrome in this loaded conference.

I don't think it's a surprise to any Minnesota insiders that Tim Miles has quickly made Nebraska competitive in basketball. Miles of course has many connections here and is well respected, and may have been near the top of the list for the U job this past spring had the timing of the Nebraska hire been a year or two earlier or later. My feeling is that we hit a home run with Pitino, but Miles may be a home run as well, and will always be on peoples' list to coach here if Pitino ever leaves.

Nebraska seems to be showing a stronger commitment to their basketball program than Penn State though, with the new arena and practice facility in the last few years. I read a story on Penn State from back in 2011, I think Penn State's first NCAA tournament appearance in a decade, and the basketball team got kicked out of their own practice space so that Bon Jovi could rehearse there for an upcoming concert. It says they also got kicked out of their space for a career fair. http://espn.go.com/blog/collegebask.../23576/some-things-never-change-at-penn-state

Nebraska hasn't been good either, but they seem to be at least trying now.

Thats true, but he's shown he can do this at every level he's coached at. I have no doubts he'd turn Penn State into a winner.

C'mon man, It's Bon Jovi!

At one time I thought Nebraska might have a better chance than the Gophers to hit 9 wins. Damn, after today and their remaining home schedule..... They can beat PSU, Purdue and NW. Do we root for them to dump the Badgers in Lincoln also? Remaining road games are the Illini and the Hoosiers. They could hit 10 wins.

We root for whatever helps the Gophers. Makes no difference if it's Iowa or Wisconsin.

I would argue that it's currently tougher to build a winning basketball program at Penn State than it is Nebraska. Actually I think it's fairly obvious.

Normally I'd say absolutely yes, but if our tournament bid is still in question at that point, a NE win over Wiscy would hurt us in several ways.

It's totally unrelated, other than how it might marginally affect our RPI.

No, if we're on the bubble it matters. For one thing, it could bump another team (Nebraska) ahead of us ... if we're among 5-10 teams sitting on the bubble at that point at the end of the year, every other bubble team matters. Also, while I wouldn't say the RPI effect is "substantial," it could be more than marginal, since we have played Wiscy twice and (RPI wise) they are by far our best win at this point...something the committee sometimes seems influenced by.

I would put it this way. As long as the Gophers and Nebraska remain near or at the bubble, I would root for Wisconsin to beat Nebraska every day of the week and twice on Sundays. It would accomplish two things. It would further enhance the Gophers' best RPI win (Wisconsin), while at the same time hurt Nebraska's at-large chances. Basic math.

The only potential bubble teams I want to win are Richmond and Florida State, for obvious reasons. I'll take my chances of the Gophers' resume stacking up just fine vs. Richmond & FSU if all 3 end up on the bubble.

Okay, look at the other programs he's built up then. Nebraska isn't his first job.

That wasn't a knock on Miles. I'm a big fan of his. I'm sure Penn State would gladly take him over Chambers right now.

Iowa-Indiana game postponed
Updated: February 18, 2014, 4:13 PM ET

Tuesday night's game between No. 15 Iowa and Indiana has been postponed after a piece of metal fell from the ceiling.

An Indiana spokesperson said a piece roughly eight feet long by 14 inches wide fell and damaged seats in the lower section of Assembly Hall.

A makeup date was not immediately announced.

Go Gophers!!

Just when the preceding game was looking to get done in time (finally), OSU and Northwestern had to get into a fight.
