Official "Viva Las Vegas!!" Thread - Trip Plans, Ticket Qs, Tailgating, Casino Advice

Alright, game day is only 9 days away, so this thread needs to get back onto the first page.

I know many of you who will be there for the game are going to the organized Alumni Assoc tailgate, but for those of us who aren't, I say we get a group together in the tailgate lot to mingle with fellow Gopher fans and have a few beers before heading into the game. We have a group of 8 that will be grabbing a case or two and throwing it in a cheap styrofoam cooler, hopping on the bus, and setting up camp around 6-6:30. Would be there earlier except the heat and lack of any chairs or other tailgating accessories make the pool/bars a bit more tempting than 2+ hrs standing in the desert.

Anyway, looks like they put the visitors on the East side of the tailgate lot, so grab a case or fill a bag with beers, and come out to join in the fun. Let's see if we can get a couple hundred people out there to get the season started off!

Count me in!!!!! We too are hopping on the bus after I polish off a Margarita at Margartivaville. I'm so pumped up for this trip its unreal. I'm flying in Tuesday Afternoon, heading out late Friday. Can't wait to meet some fello G'erHolers and start this season off 1-0.

Nice! Thanks both of you for the info!

Note to all. Get the $7 all day pass. You can ride any bus in the RTCSNV system including the express buses and the deuce. The $7 dollar pass/ transfer will allow you to go between downtown, the strip and McCarrons 24hours.

Watch the times for the buses that go out to Sam Boyd though. You don't want to miss the last one. you are talking about a potential $40.00 to $60.00+ cab ride back to the strip.

I've been in Las Vegas the past few days and it is steaming hot! Like over 100 degrees hot! I hope the Gophers remember to bring a tanker truck with H2O for the sidelines.

Yes it is stick your head in a hot oven hot!

Just a warning to everyone...I looked at the bus route from TI and it takes about 80 minutes!! No thank you. I'm sure the express bus is much faster but does anyone know how long it will take?

My group of 16 will probably arrive at different times but we look forward to meeting up in the tailgate lots. Some of thus will probably get there 2 or 3 hours early. The rest I expect to show up after that.

Traveling with a group of 6. We are getting in on Thursday morning. Alumni tailgating but that's only from 6-8, so we will start bar tailgating earlier. Anyone else thinking the same thing? If we take the bus it might be easiest to drink at Treasure Island.

Is there a bus that will be running to and from the game from TI?

The 602 should be the express to Sam Boyd Stadium

We are coming with a group of about 15 and have a tailgating spot outside the stadium. Any idea if there will be some sort of a Victory Walk for the team? I think it would be pretty cool to have everyone gather and cheer on the team before they enter the stadium!

I should have clarified. I was wondering how long the 602 takes

Took about 40 minutes last year from Tropicana. Three blocks, stoplight. Three blocks, stoplight. The city falls away at one point and you start wondering if you are on the right bus, but then the road bends south and goes right in front of Sam Boyd.

Are you allowed to drink on a city bus (legally)?

I've seen several posts like this. I love the idea of just grabbing a few beers and seeing what the tailgate scene looks like. That said, is everyone talking about the Star Nursery Fields, which is the grassy lot that serves as the primary tailgating lots? If so, does this concern anyone else from the FAQ section of the UNLV site? Maybe they don't enforce this rule?

Is alcohol permitted in the Star Nursery Fields?
Alcohol is permitted to be driven into the Star Nursery Fields but we ask that you drink responsibly and ask that no persons under the age of 21 be given alcoholic beverages. Polices and security staff will be patrolling the area. Alcoholic beverages will not be allowed to be walked into the Star Nursery Fields from any other parking lots.

Hmm...maybe we could get the city bus driver to enter the lot before dropping us off?

Sounds Great! My wife and I are eager to meet some fellow Gopher Holers! We'll most likely be half way in the bag by 6pm but we'll still be able to find the maroon and gold!

NO!!! and they have security boarding and exiting the express buses frequently checking for paid fares. Some of the express buses don't have fare boxes so you have to go to a kiosk and purchase a ticket in advance like the lightrail here.

I just called Creative Charters and they said you could buy a ticket on the bus they provide to and from the game, but you also need to buy tickets to the Alumni Association party. They said the bus was $30 and the party was $60. Ha!

My bad. The 602 is on the bottom of the link. Still working on the actual schedule.

Okay straight from the RTCSNV, The buses start running from the strip just east of the Tropicana from 4pm and stop at Midnight Las Vegas time. They run every 20 minutes according to their staff. Since the buses stop running at Midnight for this game, this means you'll have to post game party on the strip. Not at Sam Boyd.

The express goes from the strip and UNLV campus to Sam Boyd stadium. Surf the website to find kiosks to purchase fairs/ the $7.00 - 24 hour access pass(recommended by the RTCSNV). Note: From my experience they will have security on the buses checking fairs, so plan ahead. Not that us Gopher fans would be problematic, just saying.

I was able to buy my pass on the bus, but you need exact change. Buses are supposed to run every 20 minutes, but like everything in Vegas, is subject to the whims of traffic. Thursday night won't be as bad as a Saturday, so 20 minutes might be pretty accurate.

For those flying in on Thursday, they have bus ticket kiosks at the airport that you can purchase your pass from. Might as well get this out of the way before you head to your hotel rather than searching for a ticket kiosk on the strip, or worrying about exact change on the bus itself.

I know they validate each 24-hr passes when boarding the bus, but I have no clue if the validation of the ticket begins the 24-hr countdown, or if that begins when first purchased. Might be worth checking out if you can specify the times you want your pass to start if you are coming in before Thursday.

Hopefully those who have ridden it before will be able to provide specifics.

Yeah I forgot to mention that. There are kiosks on Ground or level zero? It's where the limos, taxi's, and buses are at. Make sure you're at the right sign/ spot. the 109 goes to the South strip transit terminal. I am not sure if the Deuce goes to the airport, but it goes down the strip. I'd try to leave the strip by 5pm because traffic crawls after 4pm. I'm talking 10 to 15minutes for a block crawl slow.

Line for the game at the MGM Grand last night Gophers -8

Weather should only be in the high 90's to to 102 not bad also the sun will be down by game time. Will be hot in the TG lot pack the H2o!

Just looked at limos.com and found a bus for 24 people from 5 to 12 am for $600 which includes tax and tip. We could get a group from TI to go and the bus will wait for us while at the game. They won't let us do 2 one way trips as it is a sporting event, but at least we wouldn't have to wait for cabs after. Just an idea http://www.limos.com/search/results/AEAZY2

I just got a great deal at this place:

http://bell-trans.com/las_vegas_charter_bus.php

I just booked a 29 passenger bus that will be fully occupied with GOPHER.NATION. fans . . . got a 630 pickup time at Planet Hollywood with a straight shot to Sam Boyd . . . a bus will return at 11:45 for picking us up (and they said the pickup time can changed without hassle and based around to when the game will be over) . . . the total cost is for two one way trips is $328 (including tip)

there are also smaller buses and limos available . . .

MarQUUUUEEEEEEEIIIIIIIIIISSSS!!!!!!!!

We have two vehicles that will be driving up from San Diego and we have 3 reserved spots in the Star Nursery Fields. I see a business opportunity presenting itself...drive out, load beer in trunk, drive back in, repeat.

I'm at TI and would get in on this if you can get a similar deal to GOPHER.NATION

Me and the wife are at TI and would be on board. Hopefully many others will be too to cut the cost per person down
