Official "Viva Las Vegas!!" Thread - Trip Plans, Ticket Qs, Tailgating, Casino Advice

Hey Gang,

It's been years since I've posted, probably back in the Mason era, but have always read this board. My wife and I live in Park City, UT and will be driving to the game next week. We'll be in the Star Nursery lot with a maroon F150 full of beer and brats, for those who want to drop by. I'm from Grand Rapids originally and went to the U in the 80s (Holtz and Foggie), but am a bigger Gopher fan now than when I was a student! For those who aren't going to have a vehicle, I think you just need to show your tickets to walk into the lot, but it sounds like they won't let you have a case of beer under your arm. I'll plan on having several cases on board unless I don't get any responses here. P.S. - It won't be Utah beer!! Go Gophers!!

I sent you a PM.

Gang,

Our gameday shuttle to Sam Boyd Stadium is officially at capacity. Thanks to everyone who contacted me about getting on-board. I am very excited about the conversations I've had with a number of Gopher fans who will be joining us to kick off the football season out in Vegas. Looking forward to making some new friends and celebrating the first victory of the 2012 season!

GO GOPHERS!

Greetings Gopher fans!

Getting pumped up for the season opener, as I'm sure most of you are.

I'm seeing a lot of posts regarding safe/sober transportation to Sam Boyd stadium. I'f you are in need of a ride and are traveling from the Strip, our group has booked a shuttle bus that will be departing from City Center (center Strip) and returning after the game for $10 per person round-trip. We have a few open seats so if you or anyone else you know is in need of a ride, email or give me a call and I'll give you the details.

GO GOPHERS!

My girl and I will look you up Gordon, we'll be wearing 1 maroon and 1 white jersey.

To all:

Two of us will be driving up from Phoenix, AZ. We are planning on parking in the Star Nursery field lot for $40 (have to buy the pass the day of the game). I will have a large cooler full of beer and will be happy to hand it out to fellow Gopher Holers and Gopher fans as long as it lasts. I figure between myself, AuEG04, and gordonbgopher we can at least entertain some faithful for awhile, considering the no walking in of alcohol or beer rule. We will have a silver Hyundai Sante Fe and I will hang a Gopher shirt or two from the tailgate. Can't wait until Thursday! If you see us absolutely don't be shy to come over and ask for a beer, or two, or three! Go Gophers!!! As far as the beer I was just going to go with Bud Light and maybe Coors Light but I'm open to requests. I know Bud Light will definitely be at least one case. Cheers!

Some Day... This sounds great. Besides having a bride, a groom, Gopherlady, Pregame at Blarneys, goldyspop, a few gopher alumni, and some active duty service members, I believe we may also be getting an appearance to our tailgate from the designer of the new uniforms! He is also a Minnesotan. Ok enough namedropping... This is going to be an awesome night with lots and lots of Gopher fans, beautiful weather, cold beers, and hopefully some great football, followed by post game celebration. My chili is hot, and swagger has taken over my a$$. There is no way I will be able to be productive at work this week. Thursday can't come soon enough.

What else is new??? :)

I can't wait for it :) I leave San Diego wednesday afternoon, I am stationed at MCAS Miramar, me and my buddy are some of the active duty service members that aueg04 mentioned, I'm not sure exactly what time we will get there but I'm staying at the Excalibur and hopefully will be there for the party at 7:30. Are any of you guys going to that? Also, is anybody else here in section 105, I seem to be the only one lol.

UPDATE: If anybody needs a ride to the game, I will have 2 seats available in my car, you can contact me at 763-439-6284 if you would like a ride to the football game :)

I spoke to a few people in the UNLV athletic dept last night at an event and they are pleased with the Gopher turnout, but disappointed with the response in Las Vegas. One guy said that because everyone knows it is not a sellout they are hoping for a surge in sales this week and a good walk-up on game day. Another guy said a crowd of about 20,000 would not be a surprise. I think that would suck. I think that Gopher fans might equal or even outnumber those pulling for UNLV. Go Gophers!

I hope that's true, however, that would mean there would have to be 11,000 or more of us out there lol, but hey, we had a really good turnout to USC last year :) I can't wait to say "pop" and have people know what the hell I'm talking about.

We are in 105 row 36. Are we ski or u or mah????

Count us in the Star Nursery Field as well for pre-game! We will be a bachelor party arriving in a "Cadillac DTS or similar" (per our friends at Enterprise...gotta love a corporate discount). Once in town, our plan is to scour a thrift store for a make shift cooler, some sturdy ski poles and a frisbee for Frisbeer! Hope to meet you all out in the desert...

I will be at the Star Nursery as well, I will be in my Chevrolet Aveo5 :D I don't know where I'm parking but feel free to stop by, I don't know how many grey aveo's will be parked there, but mine has Minnesota license plates so you can tell it's me :) I plan on hitting up lucky number 13 as well :)

I'm going to reserve a tailgate lot at Star Nursery Fields that includes 3 parking passes so gordonbgopher will be joining us. I will post our location once it is known. If you can figure out a way to get the passes distributed (gordonb and I are planning to meet at the Wednesday pre-game at the Excalibur) sharing a reserved tailgate spot is a great way to congregate and meet other Gopher fans. Either way, feel free to stop by and we will plan on doing the same.

farmboy,

Our group is in section 105, row 36 as well. I was actually thrilled to learn this as I was under the impression that we were sitting in the corner endzone nose-bleeders (according to the UNLV ticket site, this is where visitor seating is located). Section 105 is on about the 20 yard line and row 36 is about the perfect distance back so you get a good view of the field. Certainly could have done worse as visiting fans. Thanks UNLV!

Yeah I have sat in UNLV visitors section before at Sam Boyd and we were all sitting inside those end zone seats however it wasn't as big of a draw (Boise State last year) like the sections were packed but it was 203 and 204. I believe half of section 105 is visitors, I am in row 18, hopefully we aren't the only ones in 105, I plan on attempting to sing the Minnesota rouser every time we score and it would be better if it's not just me and my buddy all alone lol.

UPDATE: According to www.unlvtickets.com, sections 104, 103, 203, and 204 are the visiting team's section and 105 is conisdered to be open seating, meaning that they aren't sold to UNLV season ticket holders, but also aren't sectioned as visiting teams' seats. That means 2 things to me, either 1, there were so many tickets that the Gophers wanted that they had to use another section, or 2, we just have regular seats, although I got them through the Alumni Association so I don't know how that would be possible, especially considering the fact that my tickets are in row 18, and if you attempt to purchase more tickets in section 105, the "best available" seats still for sale are still in row 1, which leads me to believe that the Gophers have somehow secured some amount of section 105 as their section. How did you guys in 105 get your tickets? Did you get them using your season tickets or did you just buy them?

My guess is that the crowd is going to be about evenly split so sing away, we've got your back! ;)

I want to know if anyone has any (unbiased) thoughts on the 8.5 pt spread? I mean, I know our hearts tell us that the Gophers are going roll a team that was 2-10 is the sleepy Mountain West conference last year, but what does your head tell you? I'm planning to bet the game regardless but I was hoping/expecting the opening line would be be less than a touchdown. I may want to scale back my wager slightly due to this precarious number. Thoughts?

I just remember last year at USC, we were all randomly singing it and the cheerleader's attempted to dance to the song however there were about 4-5 different pockets of people singing and they were all at a different point up until we got to M-I-N-N-E-S-O-T-A, and even then we weren't really together lol.

We will legitimately cover the spread, I have no issues thinking we won't win by 9 pts as long as our running game is able to stay consistent. A few passes here and there and we should end up with a score, to what I believe, will be 28-17, 2.5 pts over the spread. This all being said I'm only betting $50 on the game...

My head tells me to bet the under on this one. I'll still throw some money on the Gophs to win but I think the over under started at 53 and is now at 50 or so. I think UNLV has been decent in home openers. Hopefully the large Gopher crowd and small UNLV crowd will make a difference.

I would also bet the under, I'm betting on Gopher victory covering spread, Under 50, and $50 on Michigan winning the B1G. Don't hate lol, I'm just being realistic

Take the Gophers(-8.5)

I expect the spread to be 10 or more by Thursday afternoon.

Purely unprofessional opinion.:)

Farmboy! Just you and the wife going or you bringing the whole fam? We're in section 102, but would definitely be up for breaking some bread in a can before the game. I'll DM you my contact information.

Thanks to all with vehicles for the invites at the Star Nursery tailgate. I'll be in a group of 6 on foot. Hoping to find some of you and also hoping you have a few extra beers on hand of which we will be glad to throw some $ your way.

Wife and I, and gophervotary and his wife. No kids! Leaving shortly via allegiant (sioux falls).

I'll be stopping at Thomas and Mack Center upon my arrival tomorrow to pick up a tailgate spot at Star Nursery Fields. Each spot includes 3 parking spots; I already have 3 vehicles committed for our lot but had another fan inquire about available parking with us. If additional cars are interested I can pick up a second spot for three additional vehicles. PM me if you're interested or have additional spots available.
