Official Reaction To Gophers NCAA Seed/Matchup Thread

I don't give a $hit what time we play, I will be watching and also will be on the GopherHole In Game Thread. Life is good. :drink:

Wisconsin has an awful draw... relatively tough first round match-up, followed by a likely K-State matchup, followed by Pitt or Gonzaga. That said, I think the bracket looks best for them... Pitt is an incredibly tough 8 seed. Gonzaga may be out before the Sweet 16. I can really see that pod swinging so many different ways. My confidence in picks for that pod is about 5%.

And as much as I love UCLA for round one, I hate Florida for round 2 just as much. Even if we "match up" against them. They're very, very good.

I mind. I have to work during the day. I would miss the game. So would many other gopherholers. Wouldnt that make you feel bad?

Just a quick look at the stats and it looks like we should have a huge advantage on the boards. As bad as the Gophers have been rebounding on the defensive side, UCLA has been much, much worse. They only get 62.5% of the defensive rebounds in conference play compared to the Gophers 69%. UCLA allowed almost 15 offensive boards a game!

And Florida is saying the same thing about us. We can be a dangerous team.

I would rather play Florida from the weak SEC than play in Austin than get someone like New Mexico out West or Marquette with gritty Buzz Williams.

I agree, I think we make any pod of 4 or even 8 highly unpredictable... since, we're, well, highly unpredictable.

If we get by UCLA, i think we have a very good shot of beating Florida.

And maybe I put too much stock in computer models, but any team rated #2 in the Sagarin ratings bodes poorly for us if we are not #1. That said, they've struggled lately against decent competition.

Florida has Patrick Young a PF who is a similar athlete to Trevor, only more skilled offensively. Florida also has a poor man's Brian Kelley in Murphy. He's a 6-8 or 6-9 guy who can really shoot. The Florida guards are quick and dangerous but also streaky. If we can beat UCLA, we'll have a chance but will need Florida to have an off night. G-town scares me less than Florida.

And so are lots of other teams in The Dance.

The tournament is unpredictable, and the teams always are to an extent. Our variance in level of play is an outlier even among those standards. I mean, I would give us a 60% chance of beating a 16 seed, and only a 35% chance of a 1 seed beating us. Anyhow, I look forward to seeing how it actually unravels.

hya....you have an active life. Gotta love it. :drink:

Crazy that two 8-10 teams from the Big Ten made it this year, not to mention one of them earned a 7 seed.

Damien Williams and the two hollins brothers.

Wow, thought we would get a little more respect on the national level. These analysts don't even know anything about our squad considering how much of a chance they are giving us vs UCLA

What everyone needs to remember is that every and all of the bobble heads with talking jabberwacky think of Minnesota as fly over country. That is good. They still think we fight Native Americans behind every tree.

When I moved to Oregon from Minnesota in 1980 the person taking my home loan application asked if Minnesota was next to New York. Not much teaching of geography going on out west.

One of the ESPN talking heads was talking about this Minnesota team with Trevor Mimbakwe, the Hollins brothers, and Joseph Bertrand.

What the hell do you expect? All they have west is ocean, and all they have east is mountains. It's called captive audience. But, I do love Idaho.

He is the leader of the Dance Team. I am jealous.

Not over confident

Gotta love making the dance & most of the country thinking we can beat UCLA. I believe a lot of that is the talking heads making mention of our rebounding skills and UCLA's lack there of. I think this tournament is going to be filled with some great, unpredictable games. I wouldn't be surprised if none of the #1 or #2 seeds make it to the final four. What do I know? just enough not to bet my mortgage?

A little reality to keep in mind..... We beat Stanford on a freak/dumb last second foul when we were playing well. UCLA beat them twice in league play. They may not rebound, but they're doing something right (I know they're missing one of their good players). Should be fun.

Go Gophers!

It is a little scary with all of the predictions in favor of the Gophers. I sure hope they can live up to the expectations.

Good for the Gophers in making the dance. I wasn't nearly as confident as many on this board that the selection committee would pick the Gophers. I'm glad I was wrong and you folks were right.

It looks like UCLA's point guard broke his foot in the PAC 12 tourney, which bodes well for the Gophers winning their first NCAA tournament game in years.

Now go ahead, give me your best GH Gestapo abuse. I'll take it like a man!
