***OFFICIAL MICHIGAN AT MINNESOTA IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Just looked! No new posts on the Fire Ben thread? I wonder if they are all so depressed that they can’t come up with any new coaching candidates?

I've admittedly been on the, fire him now bandwagon, for a while now. I'm happy as hell we won, this one result also won't change my opinion though. Now if we string together 10/11 big ten wins this season, I'd be happy to welcome him back for a 5th year.

This win is why you don't fire him now. The season sucks but the players are still bought in and playing hard. So you ride it out and make the move at the end of the year.

Curious - there have been a number of posters saying they don't even want the team to win because they are so down on Johnson. Did you manage to find a way to enjoy this at all or are you so negative about things that you are bummed the team actually has a reason to be happy for a change?
I'm a Gopher fan of all sports. Prior to this game I was so turned off by the depths this program has been allowed to fall, i didn't want to watch tonight. I turned it on in OT. but then didn't know how to feel. CBJ needs to go but I don't like the Gophers losing. Sucks that i can't enjoy this the way i always would have.

Right. The issue isn't not wanting them to win. It's fear the AD is looking for any excuse to just shrug, do nothing and kick the can. If they somehow rally and win 11 games, great. Ben gets year 5. If they win 2-3, it probably doesn't matter. I'm scared of the 5-7 win twilight zone, but it's bridge to cross when we get to it.

Just returned from the game. Garcia’s best game as a Gopher. Incredible D by him and the entire team. Six turnovers in 45 minutes. These guys were ready to play. Well coached game. Had they knocked down some 3’s in the 1st half, they wouldn’t have had to come from behind, but incredible comeback. Great heart.

Hope this leads to a few more wins. At Iowa will be tough!

See to me that just doesn't make sense. Even knowing where things are ultimately headed with a brand new coach and new players next year I plan to enjoy the heck out of any good moments that manage to come from this season.

Haven't had a chance to post since that ending till right now. A few things:
1. I can't tell you how or why, but I knew that baby was going in as soon as it left Garcia's hands. Looking again at the replay, he was calling for the ball. He had that shot lined up.
2. What a fun night at the Barn! Even down 9 at halftime, I was buoyant, and there was a good vibe. Not that I saw it playing out like it played out, but I reasoned that Michigan would cool off from the perimeter a little, and if they did, it would give the Gophs the opening they needed if they kept the faith and kept playing.
3. I'm sure someone's already posted this, but the irony: the Gophers essentially winning the game--and Michigan losing it--at the free throw line down the stretch. Sports never fails to deliver interesting and unexpected storylines!

The team figured out how to attack the basket on inside the paint--I meant ATTACK. Second chances! Third chances. Forcing Michigan to slap the ball out of bounds. Tip in buckets. Even 3-pointers after missed in the paint shots. Outstanding game to watch. I like the fact that the team barely relied upon the 3-point shot as their first option. It forced Michigan into a slug fest for control and that rattled Michigan just enough to gain a slim victory. I can't remember a slug fest like this since Clem was coach. (Give me a break! I have selective memory issues.)

When the Gophers counter punched early in the second half, a line from Star Trek popped into my head: "I begin to like you, Earth man, and I saw fear in the Klingon's eyes." I started to see fear in the Wolverines' body language. They were rattled alright.

There were a number of things that stood out tonight.

First was the zebras let the guys play and that was an advantage for the Gophers. Numerous reach ins resulted in Michigan turnovers versus Gopher fouls.

Second, this was Garcia's best overall game not just offense but his ability to cause turnovers and rebound.

Third was Mich's guards were not able to contain MM and Patterson. Unlike other BIG games thus far our guards were able to dribble/penetrate which opened up many opportunities for our guys to score.

Our guard play was the clearly the difference tonight compared to the past. Plus the ball movement and ball security was the best all season.

Two things were popping in my head: both eyes as my blood pressure was maxing out. I try to take it easy during games and not invest the emotional energy I once had. Tonight, I made an exception to the rule and hung on every shot, rebound, and shot to the groin.

Was thinking the same thing that a number like that would save his firing this year. I like the recruits he's landed for next year

Ben deserves some credit for this game. It’s no small task keeping a team motivated after the tough losses they’ve experienced, and I mean both close games and blowouts like at Madison. He had the right players in there at the right time, and the game plan was solid.

With the exception of Garcia, and possibly M Mitchell, he doesn’’t have a player who would start for most of the top tier B1G teams. IMO, last night’s game was a great job of using the players he has.

Glad for them to have won a game last night. It's always fun to see a buzzer beater.
