***OFFICIAL GOPHERS VS PURDUE IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

I like Andre best when he is being Blake Hoffarber, just like the Wake Forest game. Run off screens and just keep shooting.
And that's really all we need from him. We've got 6 players who average 10+ points.

In the second half, gophers also got away from their ball movement. Too many quick and 1 on 1 shots. There is a reason we led the nation in assists. We got antsy and went away from that. When teams make runs is when you've gotta have more trust, move the ball, and get good shots. 1 on 1 is only necessarily when you're low on time (shot or game clock). Player movement, ball movement, make open shots. Done. Too stagnant in the second half.

The point he has proven NOTHING so where is the baseline for faith there is none. He has done nothing to make you believe that he can succeed at this level let alone the sun belt.

He's a new coach. It comes with optimism and hope. It's human nature. No one cares if you have no faith in him, see ya on the bandwagon soon.

Tough to play injured...

...do you guys think Minnesota can win year in and year out as a pressure defense team that needs steals to survive?

Style might not be the best for this conference. Need more talent and strength in other places on the floor.

Definitely. His game is strictly catch and shoot, or one dribble shoot. He struggles when he comes off the dribble, drives, or tries to hit a pull-up midrange. Not a super fluid type of player.

Sorry this is not football, if he is in 3 NITS the seat should be on fire and if year 4 you still see the same time to move on.

So your not going to even wait till we have atleast 1 actual recruiting class that got to watch us play? Good thing you're not the AD

While I agree with your assement I dont see how anyone can think next year is going to be any better? Your telling me Konate so, Dishendo fr, Nwanko fr, King sr are better than the still mediocre bigs we currently have. He has to get a JUCO or Graduate big

Most have said it won't be. Where are you reading anything that we are on the upswing to continued sweet 16s? If that's you're expectation that's your fault not Pitino's.

+1

Or we could just hate and fire every new coach we get and never have a stable program.

No, that won't be good enough. But let's talk about that in a couple years if it does actually happen. Who's to say we don't make two Sweet 16 runs in the next two years? Is that good enough for you?

Sure and you can call me out and I will say that I am wrong, dont think he should of gotten this job that young. Fact of the matter is he does not even get looked at if his last name is not Pitino. My opinion next year is at best an NIT season was hoping that we would be 10-8 or 11-7 this year but I did not really believe it. I will come on here and apoligize if I am wrong but I just dont look through marron and gold glasses he gets entirely too much of a pass for proving nothing.

With Tubbys guys absolutely not. With jucos and first year recruits for an unproven coach? No. But I've seen plenty a big 10 team get out athleted and overrun to know it can work.

My expectation is that this program is an NCAA tournament team once every 3 years, hope we can get the right guy and every onther. I do not feel that will happen so year 4 is make it or break it season. As for a stable program if you want stabilty of mediorce then we have different expectations, but mine is an NCAA tournament every three years.

The Pitino name should carry some weight though. We've basically got his dad helping coach us for God's sake. And the amount of publicity we've gotten because of that name can only help the program. Rich has learned under one of the best coaches ever for the last 30 years, why would you ignore that?

Pitino has already admitted that. Doesn't mean he can't be a good coach.

2 wins against teams who fired their coach, yeah?

I can't hear you. The basketball teams's 7-16 (.304) regular season road record since 2012 is making too much noise. According to my math .500 in the last two years is better than .304.

Maybe your advanced stats can spin that another way.

If we are 4 years in and we have not made an NCAA tournament then yes I would say it is time to move on.

So. Just so you know. If you fire a coach every 4th year for not along the tournament with his 3rd season you will forever be where we are.

Go gophers. All of em.

Hammons was in the lane for over 4 seconds that time. He was camped in the lane. How can you defend that? If they aren't going to call it, I would clear everyone out and let him post up down low all day.

It was 6 seconds according to my DVR. But this is the big ten on the road. 0 for the last 8 at Purdue

Would love to have had him at even 35 or 40 after a few more years of winning at lower levels, he had one winning season with another coaches players. Fine it carries some weight but if we are 3 years in and 3 Nits I would say that if in year 4, if there is not an NCAA touranment then it is time to move on.

Guys, why are we worried about us making the NCAA? We should be worried about Pitino getting hired by Florida and Louisville. These are the things that should keep us up at night.

But he has zero baseline to show that he can be. Was too young in my opinion.

Tell me someone that we could get better? Sure we could take a coach that's been coaching at a mid-major for awhile, but is the name going to stand out to a recruit? I would rather take a chance on a young pitino because his name will attract more recruits. Bottom line you need talent to win games

The talent is going to be there in the back court in upcoming years; the question is the front court which is why I hope they sign a JUCO big. I don't get the love for Walker as he misses too many bunnies and can't rebound. Would honestly prefer Eliason to get a majority of minutes against the stronger competition

But he has zero baseline to show that he can be. Was too young in my opinion.

You have no clue who Minnesota is in terms of a collegiate basketball program. We have to take risks from a hiring standpoint. People with stretch, growth potential.

WHY AM I ARGUING WITH YOU??

Rivergopher is Saul or the fat assistant coach (SMH dude; I forget his name but he's the one who loves the scenery at TT); don't encourage the trolling

I just do not get the blind faith in the man. I really do not see much reason for optimism. Not saying that you have to be negative but I just do not get the blind faith and I would like to think that it is ok to question the direction of the program.

If you followed the program or went to games it is Espisoto. Not that hard, program stanganted under Tubby, sorry I wanted a more experienced coach and when is it ok to start questioning this guy?

The sky is not falling, Saul. Pitino has proven that he has the ability to make adjustments (unlike your pops). The question is whether he can correct the horrible rebounding (which I am not convinced that he can)

Such an epic meltdown for a conference road loss. Imagine what this board would look like if we lost at home to NJIT...or Texas Southern...or Incarnate Word.
