***OFFICIAL GOPHERS VS PURDUE IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Brutal loss. The second half was total 8 on 5 as it always is on the road in the B1G. We should have been able to overcome it though.

I'm pretty sure Mathieu is a Pitino senior. We lose Mathieu, Hollins and Moe next year.....probably our best three players. We lost not only all three of the big three but also Macura last year....and the word I heard is that Pitino was pressuring Macura to make a decision early in the fall even though we didn't have anyone signed until the spring. We didn't sign the kid from Grand Rapids, who I thought was a lock to play for the Gophers, and to make it worse he signed with the Badgers. I'm willing to give Pitino a chance but my concern level is piqued right now.

I just hope Pitino has the balls to bench Dre for Mason. Nothing personal, seems like a nice enough kid, but he has become absolutely painful to watch against elite athletes. And I hope if/when that happens, Hollins has the maturity and leadership to accept his role off the bench and not becoming the Sr pariah. This team needs to move on, and it will cost them wins if Pitino can't pull the trigger

I was pondering this after the NY games. Then Andre blew up against Wake and everyone thought he was going to be fine.

I'm not sure if I'm with you on this yet, and I don't think Pitino would do it anyway. But Andre would be a good "Microwave" Johnson like player off the bench.

Your program hasn't been successful since the Clem Haskins years and most of those were vacated so how of a sudden you expect a complete turn a round with the problems he had with injuries, Mbakwe ad White (two of his main recruits. Even the year when the point guard Al Nolen was out due to foot injury. Do you remember how many different records were broken while Tubby was there or the teams that he beat that hasn't been done for years and years. I can go on and on but I not going to but anyways have a great new years!!

Give it a rest dude. Most of recognize that Tubby did far more good than harm. But after 6 years (you make it sound like we didn't give him a fair shot) he hit a bad plateau partially due to things out of his control and was trending downward. Anyone who pays attention to the program knew this. National folks who only pay attention when you beat #1 and win an NCAA game didn't. Thankfully they're not in charge.

Hey look, I did have the most respect for your program but I'm a huge Tubby Smith fan and I believe your program done him completely wrong by firing him without prior notice.

I'm confused, what about the way he was fired was so awful? I mean is there really a great way to fire someone? Did they let him know through a telegram or something? I'm not sure what you expected the AD to do.

He had alot of injuries with the team while he was there and the problems with White and Mbakwe, they didn't even get to see a minute of game time together. Tubby is way far a better coach than who you have there now and frankly I hope your basketball program falls back into what it was before Tubby got there. At least he got it back to be a respectable program and then you just fire him. One of the craziest fires ever.

You're also leaving out that last year's team would have been awful if Tubby stayed around, like not even going to the NIT awful. We would not have had Mathieu at PG so Hollins would have been playing out of position once again. Walker would still be 75 pounds over weight. The two recruits we lost because of Tubby getting fired have done very little for the teams they currently play for (Ellis at Michigan St. and Foster at TT). I defended Tubby as much as anyone but it was the right move because of what was about to happen.

There are other things that were getting tiresome too like him whining about the practice facility (which everyone knows we need). At least Pitino did something about and made due with what he has available.

I do not remember those things. Please enlighten us.

It was a frustrating loss and deserves our community criticism for wilting, but breathe those who see it as catastrophic, now exhale.

Wow. I understand why folks that are actually followers of the Gopher program are here. But now, after a bad loss to Purdue, we have some southerner talking up the great Tubby Smith?

This has to be a bit.

Interesting thread. I love watching Mason play I would try to get him a lot of looks. Tough loss today but I kind a like the squad overall and I think they will bounce back. Just a personal thing but I think Eliason sucks all of the Mojo out of our team. Things started to go bad when he was in there flopping around like a fish in the second half and I think our mojo will take a serious step up next year when he's playing in the Philippines or whatever Third World country he ends up playing in.

I can almost put money on it that he will have the Texas Tech program back to the tournament before Pitino has the Gophers back....anyone up for a bet?

Tubby had plenty of notice. The only thing crazy about the Tubby firing is that it didn't come a year sooner.

Texas Tech has zero chance to have a consistently strong program with Tubby there. None.

I am absolutely up for a bet. Name the amount - Pitino's Gophers get to the NCAA tourney first, I win; you have Tubby's Red Raiders. More than happy to agree to any amount.

Being young and energetic is fine.....there is a 30+ year difference between Tubby and Richard but still doesn't justify the way he was fired. That is what I'm talking about. But I shouldn't expect anything different from some of you northern folks. Tubby brought your program back from the dumps and left a great foundation, so people like you are ungrateful. And his demeanor, are you serious? I noticed plenty of times where Tubby was fully engaged in games....I watch the sidelines and I guess you didn't see him after they upset Indiana.

Tubby was half asleep a lot of the time the last couple of seasons and he didn't put either time or energy into recruiting towards the end either.

Hard to disagree with any of this. I really didn't understand extending Tubby's contract the year before he was fired. If he's gonna have the best season in ages and still get fired, might as well cut ties sooner and avoid paying him so much damn money. It made no sense.

It was frustrating to lose this game, but I'll still be quite surprised if we don't make the tournament.

Just throwing out there, if you think Gopherhole is bad. Check the Twitter mentions of FSU running back @Dalvin_Cook would post a screen shot but the language is too bad. Yikes.
