Personally I think the staff could do a little bit better with the last corner spot than this, which is why I wish they'd hold out for someone better. Frankly, they can afford to after the Ortiz/Dickerson commitments. But since Bank crystal ball'ed him here, strong chance he's committed. Bank is one of the most plugged in guys in Ohio.

Have lots of connections there and am familiar with the HS football scene (cincy included), and many I've talked to haven't heard much about the kid. Surprising since he goes to a large school such as Winton Woods and plays in a state with high interest in HS FB. I've had a ton of praise for the staff's recruiting efforts lately, but here I think they're settling. Just my opinion, no love lost though.

I was wondering about Mahlman also. After last week and Gophers off the charts recruiting, I was wondering if he woke up and said, "I royally screwed up. The Gophs have a shot at something special, but I chose a school that will never get past OSU."
Sounds like something Bryce Benhart is thinking these days...

Haynes recruited him at Michigan State and he was offered in January. The new regime at Michigan State re-offered.

It looks like a late bloomer situation. He’s had all of those offers just in the last few months. He has 8 P5 offers, and would have likely gotten more. I’m just going to trust Haynes knows what he’s doing on this one. None of us knew who Deven Eastern was until after the season. Or, Logan Purcell.

Offers from Kentucky, Michigan State, Maryland, Pitt, Kansas, Cincy, BC so there must be something there. The fun thing is, he's the least "impressive" guy in the class so far (assuming he verbals). Up until a few years ago, he would have been considered a pretty decent commit for the Gophers. Just shows how strong this 2021 class is looking so far.

Benhart is likely to be a 4 year starter at RT

He's likely to see Nebraska get it's ass kicked all 4 years by Minnesota. He can tell his family all about it back in Minnesota. It will actually be 5 times if you count him being on the sidelines watching Minnesota run their whiney asses all the way back to Lincoln last year.

Somebody that keeps track of rosters more than I do can double check this. I think the BADgers have 7 scholarship OTs that are either Freshman (4) or Sophomores(3); the Gophers I think have two (Guedet and Faalele). If that's right, he's going to have a lot tougher time seeing the field in BADger land.
Guedet, Dunlap, Beier, Boe will be either freshman or sophomores this year. Faalele will be a junior this year.

It doesn't seem like they're taking too many OL this year, with only a few spots left and Purcell the only OL commit. It would seem they'll probably have to go a little OL heavy next year. Based on how much (at times) the OL has dominated, and the development of guys like Schluter and Faalele, I think this staff has proven that it can be a good spot for an offensive lineman. From a purely football perspective, I would argue that MN may be a better path for Mahlman. The Gophers are a little light on OL that would be a JR/SO/FR when he's a freshman, so playing time would probably be easier to obtain. WI had a very good OL class last year, and they have one other highly rated recruit this year.

Don't know anything about the kid obviously but agree with you that based on the offer list clearly a number of schools are seeing things they like in this kid. He might not have the helmet school offers but he is getting lots of power 5 interest so there must be something there.

On a poor team that may never make a bowl game...
I think that you are right as their schedule the next couple years is brutal. But if Frost can develop the talent he keeps recruiting they should make a bowl in '22 or '23

If frost fails to make a bowl game until 2022, I’d be surprised if he is the coach. Bowl games aren’t that difficult to make

I think it's a little to early to right off nebraska for dead

now back to 2021 recruiting

I agree with everything you say, but you should look at their schedule for '20 and '21 and find 6 wins in either year.

What does that mean for Riley? Trust the coaches, but seems like with two top guys in the Ortiz and Dickerson, they might hold out.

Pretty sure word got out over the weekend that Riley had given a silent verbal to V Tech. Ortiz even Tweeted something at him about they'd "still be boys even if they didn't go to college together." I would assume Crumpley was next on their board for DBs. Like others have said, fully trust PJ and his staff with their evaluations.

per Megan:

Cincinnati native Tamarion Crumpley out of Winton Woods High School announced his decision on Twitter. The 6-foot, 175-pound defensive back had other offers from schools such as Michigan State, Kentucky and Pitt.

The three-star recruit, according to 247Sports.com, is the 11th member of the 2021 class and the third cornerback. He is also the sixth player to commit during the recruiting moratorium on travel and visits, forcing only virtual contact during this coronavirus pandemic.

Go Gophers!!

I didn't say it would be easy. Frost should be fired if he can't do it. The Big Ten West isn't going to be easy. wisconsin and iowa have been good for a long time. Minnesota is getting better. Illinois is improving. Purdue is getting better. Northwestern is usually solid. Plus, Nebraska has Michigan as their main crossover rival from 22-27. IT DOESN'T GET EASIER. Frost will have to get better

certainly has size and length to work with! Solid addition! with him being our 3rd CB commit lets go get ourselves a high end safety or 2 in this class to round out a heck of a DB group!

Also, its hard to judge a kid none of us have ever seen. A lot of us, myself included, look at the stars, the # and the offer list to determine if we wanted him. Fleck and Co have repeatedly come up with kids we knew nothing about but turned into players. Crumpled will hopefully be another one of them.

Some analysis I read said that Crumpley may be able to play safety and Ortiz can play all over. Both seem to be hybrid DBs like AWjr. (not saying he level, but similar types of play) and AD appears to be a lock down CB which is awesome.

from listening to interviews, definitely seems like they're hoping Ortiz will play the Winfield role and that the other 2 are more outside guys who can either press or run with people. love the height as well. big CBs with long arms are a huge advantage if they can run at the college (and pro) level

It was pointed out when Boyd committed that the way we view recruits has already shifted a lot since Fleck came on board. In most of Kill's years a .84 rating would put the kid in the top part of the class, now it is likely that that same ranking (if he doesn't get the bump many think he will) puts a player near the bottom of the class.

Well obviously Paul Haynes is very high on this kid. I think he has proven that his evaluations can be trusted. I'd be surprised if this kid doesn't get a ratings bump.
