In the last 10 years Brady Boyd would be our ___ highest commit:

2011 --- 3rd
2012 --- 6th
2013 --- 2nd
2014 --- 5th
2015 --- 2nd
2016 --- 5th
2017 --- 3rd
2018 --- 14th
2019 --- 13th
2020 --- 14th
Great info.. This is what happens when you hire the right coach.

I found it interesting that all but one of the commits is from the state of North Carolina.

Kind of interesting looking at the regional makeup of the top teams right now in the rankings.

Ohio State, Clemson, Notre Dame, and Minnesota have players from all over the country making up their class.

On the flip side

North Carolina, Florida, USC and Wisconsin have very regional classes.

Looks like the word is out as everyone on 247 has predicted him to Va Tech

247 has Riley out of the top tier of recruits all the way down to the 3rd tier and a bunch of crystal balls to VT. If this holds, it would have been nice to have him. Nice offer list.

Last year, maybe last two years, sometime early like about now or maybe even May, June, we were rated Top 20, right? But it was because we had 12 guys and everybody else had 4 etc Then 15 to 8 or whatever.
But now we have 10 guys and we are 8th in the country! Most teams have similar numbers and some have more! This time we are legitimately in the race!
Pretty dang cool!
Go Gophers! PJ Facetime King!!

Solid observation. I think this class ends in the top 20, which would be great

I just looked at the top classes for the last 5 years. It looks like if we stayed at an average recruit rating of 88 we would be a fringe top 20 class. Though only a couple of the top twenty classes with an 88 rating had less than 24 recruits. Unless we take more people than I think we will, or increase our average I think that we will be in the low 20's. Regardless, at 88 we would most likely be a top 20 class by average recruit rating --- but not overall in 247's system.

Anyone else hear this rumor?? The sub is pretty quiet so this stood out. Nothing sounds imminent but it would be great to keep a highly rated in state OL. Feels like Fleck has upped the caliber of athlete all over but would love to see that uptick hit the OL.

Yeah, getting him would be a huge win, and really help solidify the offense line which is a huge need for this class.

I’ve been wondering about this the past few days as we have received high level commits. Since his decision last year based on Wisconsin have a history of putting guys in the NFL (which yes is true compared to Gophs) we greatly increased our OL performance and in some games were absolutely dominant. Minnesota is gaining a lot of momentum and recognized nationally. The kid would be noticed here. Come join the good guys.

Never any harm trying .... but we had our chance last year and we blew it against Wisconsin. They got to go to the Big Ten championship game, and then they got to go to the Rose bowl. (losing both, which is reasonable comeuppance)

We had a hell of a year, no one can take that away. Historically great year. But we couldn't get it done against the Madison assholes.

I don't see what possible ammunition we have to flip him, this year.

With another great year, and winning against them ... things could change.

AH, so I misinterpreted how the "Gopher Football Prospects 2021" page on 247 worked. Philip Riley dropped off that list once the VT crystal balls came in so it must only show Players who we have offered who haven't made a decision where to go yet.

I need my fix of great recruiting news daily, except we don't have enough days or slots to fulfill my desire. Then give me more 4/5 star recruits. Land O Recruits.

Mahlman would be a great get, not only how it helps our class but hurts a rival. I would suggest in some ways we have the potential to develop him in ways the Badgers could not. After next year two years if all goes well we could have two drafted Tackles and not a ton of depth behind them. At Wisconsin they had a great OT class last year and are bringing in a few this year. Mahlman could come here and be part of starting a tradition of an excellent Minnesota OL. I remember the Mason years when we were on par with any OL in the Big Ten. Come row the boat!! Plus it would be nice for someone from Lakeville to go to someplace besides WI.

hmmm don't remember that game last year being for the rights to Mahlman. Must have missed it.

What ammo do we have to flip him? - home state school on the rise, great 2021 class shaping up, lots of buzz as a team on the verge of breaking through....the chance to be a local legend....

Plenty of reasons why a kid like Mahlman might want to flip and stay home. To be clear though, I have no clue what he is thinking or planning but wouldn't shock me to see him decide to stay home in spite of our loss to the Badgers last year.

per Sid:

JOTTINGS

• The Gophers’ 2021 football recruiting class is ranked No. 7 in the country, according to 247 Sports. The group that P.J. Fleck has put together is impressive with three four-star recruits and seven three-star recruits. The Gophers rank third in the Big Ten. Ohio State has the No. 1 recruiting class in the country. Wisconsin is No. 6.

Go Gophers!!

I was wondering about Mahlman also. After last week and Gophers off the charts recruiting, I was wondering if he woke up and said, "I royally screwed up. The Gophs have a shot at something special, but I chose a school that will never get past OSU."

Somebody that keeps track of rosters more than I do can double check this. I think the BADgers have 7 scholarship OTs that are either Freshman (4) or Sophomores(3); the Gophers I think have two (Guedet and Faalele). If that's right, he's going to have a lot tougher time seeing the field in BADger land.
