Yeah, Williamson is a Gopher.

We have quite a few out-state guys: Blaise Andries, Logan Richter, Jason Williamson, Brevyn Spann-Ford, Zach Annexstad (different, I know), Axel Ruschmeyer, Connor Olson.

You would not double your attendance. It would not be anywhere close. If our scholarship grid was filled with only MN kids, we would be a really bad football team and no one would go to games. Their parents would. Even their friends wouldn't.

That is why St. John's has the #1 attendance in Div 3

The vast majority of people that attend gopher games have no connection to any of the players on the team.

I honestly can't tell if you believe what you are saying or are just trying to get people going. You can't compare a Big Ten program with a D3 school, they are in totally different worlds.

And if we filled the roster with just Minnesota kids we would have a really bad team that couldn't compete in the Big Ten. That would lead to horrible attendance (even if their friends and families all kept showing up).

A little extreme, I did not say all from our state, shoot their are high school teams bringing kids in from elsewhere. Take the best players, but take as many of the best players from our state first. Not the other way around. It is not always greener on the other side.

We should just take the best players we can get without worrying about where they are from.

I'm a MN rube, so I'd love it if a bunch were from MN, but that's not always the case.

We recruit the best kids in state. Yes, we miss out on a few to NDSU, but to get the ones we "miss" we probably would have to tie up 5-6 scholarships per miss for kids not worthy of B1G offer (no actual study/analysis was done on my made up ratio)

They already do this. It's just that the pool of best players in Minnesota that are able to play at the Big Ten level is significantly smaller than states like Georgia and Florida.

People like to point out guys like Trey Lance but they don't mention the dozens of similar guys that were average or below average players at the lower levels.

I agree with everyone, but look at our history over time. We do have talent in this state. You say that they are all knowing and have it figured out. Well the TG QB has received national attention since his freshman year and just turned 16. Bright kid with high character, the same teams that Morgan was being recruiter from his senior year, everyone wants to hack on our local kids, I think you give all these top athletes in our state the benefit of the doubt rather then running around the country and giving these kids with no connection to our state or families any program that is successful does it that way. Why do think Nebraska, Michigan, NW brought one of their own home to lead the team.

Correct, and sounds like our staff wanted him to be open to play DB, he wanted to be exclusively a QB, which NDSU offered him.

Feel free to compile a list of MN kids that Gophers didn't offer over past decade that would've taken the gopher program to new heights and start a new thread. You can update it with current MN kids you feel PJ is slighting

Williamson is legitimately fast, he will help the Gophers. That guy is no joke, his speed is legit.

That isn't always true, we have some quality, takes longer to develop because of short season lack of spring football. Our competition level is not as good and others have said overall quality of athletes, are lower that are Big 10 capable is proven with data and stats we could source. The names that get away are easy to cite.

Like there are some weird roles that really do not use a specific kinda guy, it happens at TE sometimes and so forth. But man there aren't THAT many players who have super specific roles.

At the same time if you're running a system and you've got talented guys and you're not using them ... I gotta think the problem is not "Awe shucks we're just using this system and sucking ... too bad these guys don't fit."

I think it's a little more nuanced than that. Certain offensive lineman are better suited to a zone scheme vs a power scheme, some DB's are more suited to a zone defense vs man to man, and the nuances get a lot bigger the more complex the system gets. A guy might be more talented overall but is asked to do things in a system that he isn't actually as good at.

We were better than Nebraska and Michigan last year with a guy from Illinois. I don't think they are good examples of who we should follow.

As far as your main point - you're dead wrong. We give the MN kids the benefit of the doubt and so does our staff. They should. If everything else is equal (which it rarely is), I would be pretty shocked if being a MN kid is not a tie breaker.

You also bring up Tanner Morgan. He is one of the best QBs in the history of the school, by all accounts he is an A+ person and a good student. Why would I care that he is from Kentucky?

I think you love MN football more than you love the Gophers and that's cool, I get that. I like the Gophers more than I like the NFL, so I continue to cheer for the Gophers regardless of where they go. I also want the Vikings to draft more Gophers (not because it would help them win, but because I'm a Gopher rube).

Frost reminds me of a poor man's Harbaugh so far. Not enough winning going on with the return of the hometown QB as coach.

I believe Nebraska is relying on some Minnesota boys. I really do not want to compare professional football to college, not to interesting to me. The point that I was attempting to present utilizing Morgan as the analogy is that we have talent in our state, the QB from TG is faster, taller, has been recognized on a national level for his accuracy at 16 and plays for one of the strongest programs in the state, he has two FBS offers yet the only comments are that the kid is no good because the gophers have not recognized him. If you do not think these top kids are all connected in the state and have the low down on everything you are nuts. There is strength in numbers, and when you get the majority of the local kids to decide and want to play with each other for their home program you will have continued success.

I watched Tommy Boy, funny movie, but Tommy Boy was a Wisconsin graduate and not even the brightest or most applied young man from the Badger State. You must be an imposter. You need to get out more, travel to a few other states, come look at the talent level in the southern states and then you just keep recruiting the heck out of Minnesota. You know, Minnesota where there are 5-9 big time Power Five kind of players each year. There are more big time prospects at most 6A schools in Texas than Minnesota produces in the entire state every year. Your schtick is old and you have only been on GH for 3 weeks. Step up your game TB!
