I listened to the Ryan Burns GI podcast last night and it sounds like Demetrius Douglas (Omar's son), Josh Croslen, and Javan Hawes will all be at the BBQ. All 3 are really good prospects and it sounds like it's not out of the question we could have commitments from all 3 by the end of summer if things go well.

Douglas could end up at either slot WR or CB. He lived in the Twin Cities until his freshman year of high school and left when his dad took a job at Nike in Oregon. He also has offers from Oregon and Oregon St.

Croslen is a DT out of Texas. Reminds the staff of Steve Richardson with his motor. Hawes is a WR out of Georgia.

I'll settle for two of these three.

It appears the Gophers are still looking for a 2017 QB.

I wonder if the whole concussion issue will send more highly-recruited football players who are also recruited in another sport away from football.

Well he gave us a chance. Obviously liked what he saw there better. And there's always the chance things don't work out there. Being #2 is better than not being on the list.

I guess, but it doesn't mean a lot. This is the kind of player we need to get (legacy recruit who grew up in the state) if we are going to take the next step.

Dad works for Nike. Makes sense he chose Nike U.

We were recruiting him:

Just for fun, take a guess how long it's been since we received a commitment from a prep DT that is currently on the roster???

Here's my point. Kill and now Claeys have done a great job of recruiting Minnesota. Probably as good as it will ever get. They have been landing the top guys in the state year in and year out since 2012. We miss on a few, but so does every school.

Given that there aren't 15-20 (or even 10-15) D-1 prospects in the state each year, the next step for our program has to be recruiting high quality out-of-state players. Demetrius Douglas is a kid who lived in the state until he was in 9th grade and his dad was a Gopher legend (sort of). He is a high-quality national recruit who has some pretty strong ties to the program. We're not doomed because Douglas went to Oregon, but those are the types of players we need to land if we're going to have a top-25 program.

Too bad, he had been really high on us and was planning to visit.

Looking at 247 and Scout at this point Claeys and Staff are not doing well on the National level.
Douglas and Burley were considered " high interest" kids.

247 and Scout don't predict on field performance. Brewster had a couple top 30 classes on 247 and Scout did that turn into more wins on the field? Now go look at the recruiting class of 2012. There's like what 5 or 6 of them in the NFL? And there's a good chance that another 3 or 4 could end up there next year. Not too bad for a class that didn't do well on the national level.

per Joe:

Corey Gaynor, an offensive lineman from Florida, gave the Gophers a verbal commitment Thursday, picking Minnesota over reported offers from Pittsburgh, West Virginia, South Florida and Central Florida, among others.

The 6-4, 280-pound Gaynor attends Stoneman Douglas High School, in Parkland, Fla. The Gophers now have eight commitments for the Class of 2017, including two other offensive lineman -- Marshall's Blaise Andries and Robbinsdale Cooper's Eric Abojei.

Congrats to Joshua Croslen!

I'd like any of these prospects in M&G - Dimitri Moore, Kendarian Handy-Holly, Andrew Van Ginkel, Larry Boyd, Juan Harris, Tre Norwood, Ezekiel Ott, Noah Gindorf, Ellison Hubbard, Tyree Johnson, Olalere Oladipo, Micah Awodiran, Claudin Cherelus, Nico Bolden, Shrek, The Hulk.

He doesn't look mean and nasty. He kind of looks like Rolfe from "The Sound of Music."

Silent, but deadly. Them are the boys you better watch out for (like Carlos The Assassin).
