Official 2016 Recruiting Updates Thread: Links, Tweets, Videos, Stories, Rumors, etc.

Maybe someone with more recruiting knowledge can help me out here, but how does Maryland make 3 offers during the NCAA dead period?

They can offer through the recruits HS coaches. Thats how Baylor and Okie State offered Merrick Jackson.

Dead period = no face to face contact that's it

Go Gophers!!

247 Sports have now listed them as soft commits. Uh oh is right. We've got to worry...

We need to get the OC on board ASAP. I am afraid mid-January is too late.

Believe 247 changes commits to soft when they talk about taking other visits.

This from the Maryland247 site:

"Daniels did confirm with IMS that after a talk with his coach and family, he and his brother Elijah Daniels will take an official visit to Maryland in January."

I wonder if the Daniels twins are peeved with the amount of DBs we have committed. The several we have would take the sting out of their decommitment, though, if that happens.

Sounds like it could be anywhere from 4-10 not sure if that was already counting Jones or not. Sounds like at least 1 or 2 will be DBs which is the reason why the staff has brought in so many this year. I think the staff is well aware of who will be transferring or is thinking about it and that is why they are targeting a class of around 28 total signees.

Well if they are waiting for the new OC to be announced...they will miss their window. TC was clear the decision wouldn't be til mid-january after the coaches meetings. Not sure why any defensive player would transfer (unless they think they wont be playing next year based on depth chart).

I don't want to be too much of a homer, but I just don't see why anyone would pick Maryland. Will they ever contend in the East? I'm so excited for next year's recruiting class - as long as we don't lose more commits.

This!!!

Maryland has the worst facillities in the Big 10 conference

Maryland doesn't even have an indoor practice facility for Football.

I too am a homer and agree with what you're saying but Maryland fans are probably wondering the same thing. Will MN contend in the West? They had a few good years sprinkled in with some stinkers. Like I said I agree with what you're saying and believe we're in much better position than Maryland, but to outsiders MN may be looked at like we look at Maryland.

Well Maryland just got the Ball State head coach Pete Lembo to resign to take an assistant coaching job there.

UA money talks. Mike London was a really nice hire for them too. He should really help them lock down some of the players in the talent rich DMV area. Though I think it's pretty much mission impossible taking on the big 3 in the East..Durkin's surrounding himself with the right guys it seems. That will be a interesting program to follow in the next few years especially if Dwayne Haskins doesn't flip to Ohio State.

I'll give you that Minnesota has a better chance of winning the west than Maryland does the east, but that's the only advantage Minnesota has. To most outside of Minnesota, DC is a more desirable location with better weather, facilities that are farther along, recruiting base, and now a better coaching staff.

How so? Crappy city filled with crappy people. Minnesota offers much more for college grads than DC.

Maryland's campus is a 30 minute drive. It's not like you can bike to a club in Georgetown to see Fugazi play for $5.

That's your biased opinion. Whatever list or metric you want to look at, DC is right up there with Minneapolis for college grads and young professionals, plus it's warmer. I don't blame any recruits for considering Maryland over Minnesota.

For the trio I'm pretty sure the interest stems from UA, though Durkin coaching in Florida also helped get his foot in the door.

I live here. The Maryland administration and faculty culture historically have been somewhat anti-big time sports (like U of M), especially after the Len Bias death, but if they ever let their school sell its soul to the devil (UA) they will be good. Better potential than their neighbor Penn State, who constantly raids the area for top talent.

It's already happening in basketball. Turgeon is a shyster and was about to be run out of town a couple years ago, but lo and behold "somehow" landed Melo Trimble and Diamond Stone, accepted alleged-rapist transfers Dez Wells and Rasheed Sulaimon (and the school let them in), and now they love him here.

Eh, not by enough to make any difference, in my opinion. It gets f'ing cold here, just a bit shorter winter. Summer is way worse though, not pleasant at all.

Do you really want to argue weather with me? :)

Average January temperatures:
DC: High: 43 Low: 29
MSP: High: 24 Low: 8

20 degrees is significant. I don't think the summer humidity in DC will bother kids from Florida.

I just looked at Maryland's committment list, and they already have 5 DB's committed in their class. I'm surprised they are looking to add two more. Doesn't seem like that'd be a reason for them to switch as MN has less DB commits (not counting the twins). I'm hoping Dwayne Haskins flips to Ohio State so that it's less appealing for Snelson.

There is a perception that its much warmer though which is all that matters. Hell some Detroit kids have said how cold it would be to play for Minnesota. Cedric Lattimore from Detroit said in a Rivals interview that all he knows about Minnesota is that it is "real cold down there, real cold." There was one other who said something similar too. That should tell you a lot about the extreme perception problem that we battle.

DC is one of my favorite cities. That city is amazing. College Park is a different story

You can hop on the metro right in college park though and be in DC in no time without having to have a car
