Official 2015 Recruiting Updates Thread: Links, Tweets, Videos, Stories, Rumors, etc.

Croft is from the same city (Rockford IL) that Coach Anderson is from. Gotta think that helps our chances. His throwing motion needs work, he short arms his throws and it almost looks like he hops when he releases the ball, but we don't have any QB with that combination of size and speed on the roster.
Short armed or not, he's got a cannon, some of those deep throws he's making in that video look pretty effortless.

Columbus (Ind.) East running back Markell Jones also turned in a strong showing and should know by the end of the week if Minnesota will be offering him. All 12 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions currently read for Purdue, but the Gophers were an offer Jones definitely wanted to try and earn and a full-ride from Kill could be a game-changer in his recruitment. If Minnesota doesn’t go on Jones, he could be a Boiler sooner rather than later.
I wonder how many running backs they'll take, they seem to be recruiting several. Jones had a nice junior year BTW, 2629 yards & 42 TD's.

According to Burns we our only taking one. That seems less and less likely as the days go on however. We do graduate 2 scholarship RBs this year.

Good, we've found our guy. This makes up for not offering Morgan.

Personally, I'd have rather they offered Morgan. Better thrower, at least in the highlights. But this staff seems to put a higher premium on speed and athleticism for QBs than I would, and less on pocket poise and natural throwing ability. Then again, what do I know?

Oh, good, Croft himself said there is a good possibility he commits soon. I thought it was some analyst.

Anderson is the lead recruiter according to rivals. What you would expect.

He throws almost exactly like Marqueis Gray but that doesn't necessarily mean he'll have the same trouble at the QB position.. I don't care if Croft underhands the ball as long as he can complete throws. I defer to the experts on the staff, we need to trust their evaluations. Like you, I'd rather have a solid competitor first, passer second, runner third but it's not my team. Hopefully they're not just enamored with the size and speed.

Nick Connelly is visiting campus today and it sounds like he'll become commit #5.

STrib: Gophers get commitment from Red Wing lineman Nick Connelly

The Gophers landed their fifth recruit for the 2015 class Tuesday, when Red Wing lineman Nick Connelly gave a verbal commitment during an unofficial recruiting visit to campus, the Star Tribune has confirmed.

The 6-6, 270-pound Connelly plays both offensive tackle and defensive end and is a consensus three-star recruit. He had reported offers from Wyoming, Illinois State and Montana State.

The Gophers have commitments from two other offensive linemen for 2015 in Bronson Dovich (Chaska) and Ted Stieber (Akron, Ohio).

Go Gophers!!

Red Wing Republican with quotes from Connelly: Football: Connelly commits to Golden Gophers

"That’s where I always wanted to play. That’s where I always wanted to be,” Connelly said. "To play for Red Wing, Minnesota, to go to Minneapolis to play for the Gophers, it’s a great feeling. My whole family’s excited for me. My grandma was going crazy once I told her. It seems like everyone’s happy for me and happy I’m staying in Minnesota.”

A standout offensive tackle and defensive end for the Wingers, Connelly will head to the U of M as an offensive lineman prospect. He will have to wait until February to sign his National Letter of Intent, which bounds Connelly to the school.

"They said that I can play defense right now, but they think that I’ll end up putting on so much weight and muscle in my redshirt freshman year that I’ll turn into a better offensive tackle than a defensive end,” Connelly said.

If they're only taking 1 RB I guess I'd prefer Jonathan Femi-Cole anyways.

Jones was just in camp and we didn't offer, so I guess that's all we need to know.

Right now my realistic wish list would be

1. Carlberg
2. Stringer
3. Croft
4. Kelly
5. Femi-Cole

Who else are we recruiting that that has visited or shown plenty of interest in us?

Free Q&A at the go4report with Omari Stringer. Very insightful.

http://go4report.com/omari-stringer-talks-top-four/

It should be pointed out that this article is over two weeks old, and is referring to the unofficial visit that Stringer took here on June 14. He was scheduled to visit Becky that weekend as well, but cancelled that visit. Reading the tea leaves, it looks like it's down to us and Indiana. He's attending our team BBQ on July 19, and if he's comfortable, I could see him committing to the U at that time.

Stringer seems like the type of kid who really likes the attention that comes with being recruited, both by coaching staffs and fans. If he commits to us sometime this summer, I think he's one we'll have to keep recruiting until signing day. I don't know, I just get that vibe from him.

Well the article itself from June 25th which is today but the quotes may be older i guess.

Gopher Report posts a lot of VIP 247 articles a few weeks after they're originally posted on 247. It mentions that at the bottom of the article.

Interesting. That really illegitimatizes his site. Looking around most of his decent articles are from 247 VIP. At least its free.

How so? It's an article he wrote himself that was premium 15 days ago, and is now available for free. Does it "illegitimatize" a movie if it's shown to the public 15 days after being given VIP screenings in Paris and NYC?

Oh, i didn't realize he wrote the article for 247 VIP. Thought it was plagiarism. Never mind.
