Why Not Defensive Line ?

There will be a spot for him even if we do get another O-lineman. We are taking 4-5. Carlberg is the shortest and presumably least likely to play OT of the 4 and he is the only one that plays OG instead of OT on his HS team. I'm almost willing to say we would take him even if we had 5 O-lineman just because Limegrover and Kill have a bias towards in-state lineman and they especially would when that player is as good as Carlberg. He isn't getting left out any way you slice. It. I bet we will hold out on O-lineman though until after Carlberg makes his decision anyways since he is deciding before his season starts.

Why not recruit him for Defensive Line? The defensive line can use lots of depth during the course of a season. From what I have read he has the talent to play either offense or defense.Rasheed Hageman was a tight end originally. He is a recruit this program cannot afford to lose.

Nah. The program will be just fine, with or without him.

Which isn't to say he's not a great recruit. I'd love to see him stay here.

Such a bad day. Jeff fell short on his ACT and now maybe our #1 DB target is deciding before the team BBQ to IU.

I think jaymil said it before, but the recruitment of Stringer very likely will go to signing day regardless of who he "selects" tonight. My money is on Indiana for now, as I think we needed to get him back here to the BBQ.

He is a recruit this program cannot afford to lose.

Should we stop playing football on Saturday's if he doesn't come here? I thought Jeff Jones, Jonah Pirsig, Seantrel Henderson, Michael Floyd, and about 50 others were the recruits we couldn't afford to lose.

And look where our program has been without those guys. We cannot reach out peak without having the top MN guys that we want.

I named a few that we got...;)

I realize that you named one OT that still has 3 year of eligibility left that had a knee injury last year yet Kill has mentioned him probably more than anyone on sports huddle summary's. Still, we cannot reach out peak without getting the top MN guys. And if getting Jeff Jones is the difference between having an Ameer Abdullah caliber back vs Cobb and Kirkwood than by all means he is a guy that we can't afford to lose as well.

Recruiting is an inexact science. Seantrel was considered a recruit we needed to get at the time. In hindsight, how many additional games do you think we win if Seantrel is a Gopher? I'd say the number is close to zero.

Kids make their own decisions. Some want to leave, and we are fortunate to get some kids that pass up good opportunities close to home to come here (Brock Vereen, the Mayes brothers, Elmore, etc). In Kill's first full recruiting class, he landed 9 MN kids and beat out some good competition for Pirsig, Hayes, and McDonald. Our biggest recruiting issue isn't that we are losing too many top Minnesota players. It's that there aren't nearly enough good MN players to recruit. The day when MN consistently produces 10-15 D-1 recruits per year is when you will see the program consistently in the top 20. Hopefully Kill's magic is strong enough that he can do it with the current state of high school football in Minnesota.

Omari Stringer chose the Indiana Hoosiers tonight. Came down to Minnesota and Indiana apparently.

Not surprising.

If the Gophers start winning more, they will come.

Agreed, but we did just lose him to a program that is winning less than us, so not sure that argument holds true in this instance.

Go Gophers!!

Winning more than what? Indiana? We not only won 3 more games than Indiana last year, we also beat them. Thus far, we've been beaten out for 6 kids by Indiana (though 3 were from Indiana, so that's understandable). Tegray Scales also would have looked pretty solid in Maroon and Gold last year, but he chose Indiana as well.

I mean, I get that we can't get them all, but how many games are we going to have to win before we can competitively recruit in Illinois and Ohio against schools like Indiana and Kentucky? Because thus far, those schools haven't won ****.

IU has been recruiting very well for their W/Ls kinda like us with Brewster. 17th class in the country after a one win season.

Right. Which speaks to the point that it's going to take more than just winning more games to start winning some of these recruiting battles. It hasn't had any material effect so far this year.

Bronson Dovich's Hudl highlights are now private for no apparent reason. I was bored and was just about to look at them. :(

Makes you wonder. I hate to be suspicious just because a program is recruiting well but still kind of hard to believe.

Looks like someone committed..

Please educate me regarding the "Bandit" position in Indiana's defense. Is that the defensive position that last touches the ball carrier before he enters the end zone or the defensive player who is closest to the offensive player when he crosses the goal line?

Now this is funny stuff.
