Kids will be kids. Some just want to get get the heck out of here. Some will learn the grass is not always greener, but others will go and enjoy the experience of being away from home and experiencing life in another part of the country. Each and every individual is different and I would think I can speak for most people on this board when I say I have no idea what it would be like to be recruited from schools all over the country as a 17-18 year old kid.
Also, let's not forget a lot of high school kids really had no reason to grow up rooting for the Gophers besides them being their home state. Let's say for discussion, that the last "successful" Gophers team was Maroney's senior year. He graduated in 2005. If Ragnow is 18 right now, that would make him about 10 years old his senior year. So basically from the time he was 10-16 let's say, the Gophers were not that good (some could argue still aren't but improving obviously) and besides having an anomaly decent year here or there, for much of his life, they were in the bottom tier of the Big 10. What I think Kill is able to do is provide this program with something to be proud of, and something that will be competitive each year. Once that has been established for years, I believe more in state kids will stay home. No matter what, there are going to be some kids who want to move away, and there is nothing you can do about that. It happens with every program and every state. But if this program continues to improve and continue and progress in similiar ways that we have seen the past 3 years, I believe that when these younger kids who are 10-11 years old now, will grow up watching a more succesfull team, they will more likely stay home. These things take time, and event though as a state we have waited for 50+ years to get back to the Rose Bowl, we have to remember the current coaches/administration has not been here all that long. I hate Beilema but I wish Ragnow the best but what's done is done. Time to move ahead and hopefully Jones sticks and we can all be happy next Wednesday welcoming in the newest class of Gophers.
