Official 2014 Recruiting Updates Thread: Links, Tweets, Videos, Stories, Rumors, etc.

247 rates him a 91 and the second best player in Kansas. Based on their ranking he would be our second best recruit next to Jeff Jones.

http://247sports.com/Player/Andre-Maloney-29507

Yeah, he's one of their top targets. A tall, athletic corner is exactly what they want and Maloney fits that description. Sounds like they have a realistic shot at flipping him.

Recruiting is starting to worry me a little bit.

Don't let it. Out of our 6 current commits, Mayes, Elmore, and Jones are legitimate top 20 players in the country at their positions. We're also in on some top guys that have visits planned or will be scheduling soon, like Ragnow, Kendrick Holland, Lamont Simmons, Maloney, Shakeneth Williams, Deron Thompson, Dorian Baker, etc, etc.

I bet we have 10+ commits by the end of October in what's going to be a relatively small class (16-18).

+1. Let's not forget 2 of our best recruits in 2013 committed on or around signing day in Campbell and Jones. We're sitting just fine so far in what will end up being a small class.

Any word on Fla RB Greg Howell's visit last weekend?

According to Ryan Burns, it sounded like he loved his visit.

The running back recruiting is hard to figure out for this class. It's a small class, Gillum is the only senior on the team, Jones appears to be solid, and we are bringing in Howell, Thompson, Walters, and possibly D'Ernest Johnson, a UNC decommit. It seems like they want to add 3 backs.

PiPress: High school football: Washburn's Jeff Jones piling up TDs, college offers

Still, the 6-foot, 195-pound speedster said that doesn't mean Minnesota is out of contention.

"I just want to pick the right school," Jones said this week. "I want to let all the schools that are recruiting me know that I'm open. I haven't been everywhere I have offers from yet, so it's hard for me to (choose a school) if I haven't seen it with my own two eyes."

Jones said when he verbally committed seven months ago, the Gophers were the only program that kept in consistent contact with him. That changed after he gave them the soft commitment.

Jones now has offers from four other Big Ten schools and nine universities in all, with the most serious interest coming from Michigan State, Illinois, Iowa State and Missouri.

"I think Minnesota is No. 1 in his eyes and the other schools have to equal up to them," Washburn coach Giovan Jenkins said. "He's not a kid that is enamored by facilities and stuff. He understands that every school has stuff, so he is really big on relationships."

i think we really need to win this san jose state game to keep the fans interested for the iowa game. Its going to be a huge recruiting weekend and we are going to need all the support in the world.

HS runningbacks are easily converted to linebackers and safties, both of which we need in spades.

Another RB:

Per ESPN as of 9/23/2013

Tom VanHaaren: For the second consecutive week, there were no commitments in the Big Ten. That is starting to get troubling for a few teams that have some ground to make up. The teams outside of the top 30 class rankings have some work to do.

I think the key to recruiting here to minnesota obviously is getting our best players in state to represent us... and then attack the best players from kansas jucos, its what i like to call the kansas state model.. and we all know jerry has big connections in that state

B1G high school performers
Minnesota
Jeff Jones: Jones and Washburn (Minn.) were held in check compared to the previous weeks. He still had 17 rush yards, 63 receiving yards and one touchdown, which now gives him 17 total touchdowns on the season. Washburn lost 47-25 to St. Paul Central.

Kendrick Holland: The Gophers’ target had seven receptions, 171 yards and two total touchdowns for Winter Haven (Fla.) in a 28-0 win over Orlando Evans.

Pretty sure Jones got hurt in that game and couldn't finish it, hence the 17 rush yards.

Jackson is the 73rd best player in the entire class according to ESPN. He has quite the offer list. Great news we are getting both of these guys on campus. They are high school teammates so it has the potential to be a package deal.

Being his teammate, maybe they'll just say "Ahh what the hell, why not Minnesota!"

A guy can dream

Why would we bring in Jackson if he's already committed to Florida? I'm confused. If he's already committed why go tour any other schools??

Didn't something like this happen last year? A recruit the Gophers comes for a visit and his highly ranked teammate came along inn the visit. Never had much interest but had a good weekend with his friend.

A free trip where you know you'll be treated like a king and have a blast?
For the school a chance that you connect in a way that sways the kid to your school. DeVondre Campbell was committed elsewhere and came here instead.
